Can someone access your backups if you share a time capsule?

I share a time capsule with my boyfriend, and wasn't certain if I remembered correctly from school if he could access my backup on his Mac if we ever parted on less than friendly terms... 1.) There is nothing compromising on the backups, nor is there anything that could be interpreted as such.  2.) He is on non speaking terms with some of my friends and relatives, and there is some data on my MBP that he could come in contact with (due to my being their "IT person" and all that), which would not be all that great, if it were possible.  I myself cannot remember if such a thing can be accomplished, mostly because my schooling was centered on Windows software, not Macintosh. Thanks in advance.

You can encrypt your backups.  System Preferences -> Time Machine -> Select Backup Disk... -> Encrypt backups
Then it does not matter, as long as the other people do not have the encryption keys.

Thinking of purchasing Time Capsule.... Can I access my documents saved on (Home Network) Time Capsule from another Network??? For instance, I can access my documents saved on MyBookLive (which is connected to my wifi) from ANY wifi connection... Like when I'm at school I can download documents stored on my MyBookLive at home.... I love this feature... But I would prefer to keep my products apple... So my question is can I access my documents from ANYWHERE with Time Capsule???
    Other products I have: MacBook (2009 limited edition it's aluminum) two iPad2 (2012) iPhone 5 (2012) two iphone4 iPod touch (2010) iPod Nano (2011)

Remote access to TC is allowed by BTMM and iCloud service.
Not for ipad or iphone.. only the Macbook although I think people have some work arounds..
NOTE. Your school firewall should block it. If I was still working in network admin I would. ie you are risking the whole network to get access to files unchecked for viruses.. and please don't just say Macs don't get viruses, you can still be the source of the infection even if you don't suffer the disease. Just a carrier.

  • How do i make it so my mac mini can always access my media for Itunes on my time capsule?

I just recently switched over to a mac mini from a pc. I also purcahsed a time capsule and set it up to hold all my media like music, movies ect. So what settings do i go to so that my itune always acesses the media on my time capsule. If the only way to do that is never let the mac sleep i can do that. But i was wondering if there is a better way to make sure i can watch a move on my apple tv without having to "wake up my computer" and then reslect the hard drive as the media source. Thanks for anyone help!!

The ipod is not a backup device. The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  Without syncing:File>transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your backup copy of your  old computer to your new one.

  • As a Verizon FIOS client, can we just use Ethernet cable to connect to time capsule, or do we need their router to connect to the time capsule?

As a Verizon FIOS client, can we just use Ethernet cable to connect to time capsule or do we need the Verizon router to connect to time capsule?

The Time Capsule is indeed a wireless router with simultaneous dual band capability...and a hard drive for backup purposes. You can use that to your advantage if you configure the Time Capsule as I suggested in Bridge Mode.
The Time Capsule will provide a 802.11n 5 GHz band and a 802.11n/g/b compatible 2.4 GHz band to allow virtually any device to connect to the network.
I suppose that you could also use the "g" wireless network provided by the Verizon router as a "guest" network or something similar if you really do need another wireless network.
It might be possible to configure the Time Capsule as the main router on the network....that's a question for Verizon. But even if you might be able to do this, I'm sure it is not supported by Verizon, so you would be on your own in the event of any Internet connection difficulties on your service.
And, since the Time Capsule does not have a built in modem....you would still need to add a separate modem to the installation anyway.
That's why my suggestion is to use the Verizon device as the "modem" and let the Time Capsule provide the dual band wireless network and of course, handle the Time Machine backups.

  • You can't access your own content from the top menu anymore?

Apple made a monumental FAIL decision for me regarding the new Apple TV.
They really want to force feed their iTunes store to us so badly that they have now stripped all of your own content from the main menu.
No longer can you go to TV Shows and watch... well, YOUR TV shows. Apple buried all of your personal content a couple of menus deep. In fact, the entire Music category is Now gone! Unbelievable!
And I can't use album covers for a screen saver anymore? That was a great feature! i guess they don't want music associated with a TV device. Very bad decision in my opinion.
This unit is a step BACK, not forward.
Am is missing something? is there a way to get this content back to the front so I can easily access my stuff?

agreed. the appletv is now an itunes store device (with your own content as a side issue).

  • Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro?
Yes, if you are asking about using Time Machine to backup the Mac.
Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?
You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you?  If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose.

  • Can someone access my email through iCloud if they used to have access to my email?

Can someone access my email through iCloud if they used to have access to my email?

Your question is not clear. If it is a Yahoo email account, then where does iCloud come into the picture? Or do you mean you are using the yahoo.com email address as your Apple ID? These are entirely different things. The Yahoo email account is not in any way related to the Apple ID that is using that email address as the Apple ID.

  • Can someone access my mac from airport

Can someone access my iMac through airport express? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Obviously, since if you couldn't access your own iMac your Express woudn't be much good, would it?
However, assuming you set a login name and password for your iMac, you need to provide that even if you are accessing the iMac from another client on your network. To join the network requires yet another level of authentication, which you presumably configured in your Express. Furthermore, accessing your network from outside its router is more difficult still.
It sounds as though you were concerned, so I hope that assuages it.

  • I would like to access an old Time machine back up from a Core 2 Duo Macbook, but no longer have a Mac. Can I access the backup from a cheaper old ibook, or would I need a Macbook. Is the OS important?

right click on the folder that shows with the red negative sign, and select to "get info".  In the long skinny window that appears, look in the "sharing and permissions" section.  In the "name" column, you should see your current user name.  Ensure the "privilege" is set to Read and Write.  If your user name is not in the name column, click the + sign, and add it, ensuring the privileges are set to Read and Write

  • I restored some files last night and now I can't access my backup and it's full.

Last night I was restoring some image files and everything appear to have gone as planned. The images were back and the time capsule continued to backup my system as before. I got up today and I keep getting a message that my backup is full and I also can't access my backup files. I'm not sure what went wrong. I am running snow leopard and have VMware to run win 7 as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Some questions:
    1) What was the volume (file size) of the restored image files?
    2) What specifically happens when you try to access your backup files?
    3) If you mount your Time Capsule's internal drive (presuming that's where Time Machine is writing its data), how much free space does it have?
By the way, as your problem seems to be specific to Time Machine and not to Time Capsule, I'd post future questions of this nature to the discussion section for your version of OS X.

  • Can't access iCloud backup

My iCloud shows 4.8gb of storage taken for my iPhone backup.  However, I changed my password a week ago and it deleted all my contacts and whatnot.  Now when I plug my iPhone into iTunes or attempt to restore from iCloud, I can't access that backup at all.  It says none are available.  How can I get my data/information back?

You can see any of the content of the backup without restoring it to your device, and as you indicated, the only option in settings is to delete it.  It should contain your camera roll photos, which are included by default.  If they didn't restore, about all you can do is try restoring the backup again.

We have three operational computers, one does not have iTunes on it.  Since Apple is saying I have more than 5 authorized computers, and I can't imagine what they are, I am afraid to deauthorize all my computers.  See what I mean?  I just wanted to ask the question about how I can find out WHICH computers Apple thinks I have authorized, so I can decide if it's safe to deauthorize them all or not.
You could have more 5 computers authorized if you ever, for example, reformatted a hard drive or replaced a hard drive without deauthorizing the computer first. Apple's system would see that as a different computer, even though you don't. There's nothing to be afraid of in deauthorizing everything and the reauthorizing what you actually have. You won't lose any data. Mistimp is correct, they can't tell you which computers are authorized.
