Can someone confirm these progs will work on Leopard?!

Hi there,
I'm planning on installing Leopard today on my iMac G5 2.1 GHZ iSight and prior to installing it I wanted to confirm the applications I use most would still work.. I was hearing there were some problems with Adobe, is that still the case?
Will the following programs work: CS3, Final Cut 6, DVD Studio Pro, Lightroom....??
And do you think leopard will slow my system down or will it compare with Tiger or surpass it?!
Thanks a lot!

  • Can someone confirm if this will work for our needs?

I downloaded and installed the Acrobat 9 'free 30-day trial' version to confirm whether this software will do what we need for a given requirement before purchasing it but the functions that I need to test are inactive in the trial version.
We need to be able to:
Distribute blank or partially completed forms to external contacts who can open the files without needing to purchase software. (no problem)
External contacts must be able to add attachments or paste screen-shots and photos into the form, fill-in fields and submit the form back to our e-mail address. (not sure)
We must be able to distribute the (partially-completed) returned forms internally for mark-ups and/or approvals and be able to track their progress. (not sure)
Some completed forms will need to be returned to the external contacts, where they must be able to open and print the forms. (I think so)
We need to be able to collect and sort and filter the forms based upon form field inputs. (not sure)
The information in these forms is security-sensitive, so we would like to manage the information locally, not on Adobe.com.
It looks like we can add attachments to the files, but I can not test how it works because this function is disabled for the trial version.
I am also not able to test the sorting/filtering/tracking of forms. I believe this is done using the ‘Distribute’ and ‘Collect’ functions where returned files are ‘collected’ in a master file. The trial version does not allow me to distribute the form, so I can not create the master file to see what it does.
I called customer support to ask about how it works but he would not answer my questions unless we purchase the software.
The descriptions of the software on the website sound like it is possible to do what we need, but I can’t tell for sure, and I don't want to buy it unless all of our requirements can be met somehow.
Can anyone explain to me how this works and let me know if it will do what I need?  Is there another product we should be looking at?

Since no one has given a go at an answer, I will try some. I am surprised that things are grayed out in Acrobat. If you create the form in Designer (the FORMS menu), then you can no longer modify it in Acrobat. That may be one issue you have. The modification can still be done if you do the form in Acrobat using the form tools uner the TOOLS menu.
For your questions: We need to be able to:
Distribute blank or partially completed forms to external contacts who can open the files without needing to purchase software. (no problem)
External contacts must be able to add attachments or paste screen-shots and photos into the form, fill-in fields and submit the form back to our e-mail address. (not sure)

    1. Yes, that is not an issue.
    2. This is an advanced feature that requires current versions of Reader. At least I think photo clip capability has been added -- you will have to wait for others for a confirmation. The form can be filled in and sent back to you. There are 2 aspects to be aware of. If you submit the form, not just the data, then you are limited by the license agreement in quantity based on seciont 15 of the license (available online at Adobe.com). Also, you mention sensitive data. That would normally eliminate e-mail submission right up front due to the lack of security for sensitive data in e-mail. E-mail submission also has problems on many machines due to the client e-mail configuration. You are best to use a web script for submission of the data only (eliminates the license issue that requires saving the form).
    3. I am not sure of an answer on this one. I think the answer is at least partially yes.
    4. Once you get the form data back, you can import it into the form and save the form with the data for sending it back.
    5. Collecting the data is the best manner for the collection on the web with the capability of adding the data to a database or other manipulation. I think the FDF toolbox can send the data directly to a database.
My answers are not complete, but at least they give you a start on your thoughts. There are many here who are form experts and should have no problem answering the questions, once they have time. Just wait a bit.

  • Can u confirm that this will work for duplicates?

I have a LARGE number of duplicate tracks (different mixes, different compilations, etc.) in my iTunes library. I want to keep all of my tracks but I don't want all of the duplicates to show up in my library window. After some experimentation, it seems that I can delete selected duplicates from my library, but have iTunes NOT move them to the trash. That way, the tracks are still on my disk and I can always import them again should I want to, but they will not show up and will not count toward the "size" of my iTunes library.
    Is this all correct?

if you have itunes set up correctly it should not matter what songs are in it, I have all my music in home folder- music - itunes - itunes music.
if you then go into itunes and delete the songs you dont want but keep the files they will remain in the itunes folder within the finder.
the way you were asking is as if you have two copys of each song, one on your itunes folder and one elsewhere on you hard disk with is using up a load more space.
If Im wrong then please tell me!!

  • Can someone confirm a possible bug with Universal Access?

Can someone confirm a possible bug with Universal Access?
I have a Mac Pro 3,1, 10.7.1 but if you could confirm or not this possible bug with any model.
    In Energy Saver preference pane:
    Set Mac to never sleep.
Set Display Sleep to ~2 minutes.
    In Desktop & Screen Saver:
Set screen saver to start at ~1 minutes.
    In Universal Access:
Check Enable access for assistive devices.
Check radio button Zoom to On.
    Zoom in window not checked.
Confirm that Zoom works by pressing:
    ⌥⌘= (option, command, =).
Set screen back to normal by pressing ⌥⌘-.
Let screen sleep after screen saver starts.
Wake screen and see if ⌥⌘= still works.
    Thanks … Ken

Other than the time intervals (smallest Screen Saver kick-in is 3 minutes), it works fine for me - at least I can still zoom in/out after waking the display.
Tested on two different MacBook Pro models in 10.7.1

  • Can someone explain how .prel files work?

Can someone explain how .prel files work?  My C drive is O/S and programs, my D drive is storage and the project file(s) (the .prel file) are on my E drive.
How is this supposed to be more efficient/faster?  P.E. (C drive) has to constantly communicate back and forth across drives with the .prel file and all the files in the subfolders?  It seems like it would be slower.
As I mentioned in a previous post; my zooms in/out of the Timeline are VERY slow.  It is almost 1 second before the Timeline gets bigger/smaller.  Any info would be great, thanks!

    Windows 7 64 bit, i7 980x @333 6 core processor, 12 GB ram DDR 1600, Radeon 5850 GPU PE 9

By using multiple HDD's, one is spreading the I/O (Input/Output) load over various HDD's. The controller is faster than a single HDD, being tasked to read/write from/to multiple places. One of the first laws of physics is that an object cannot be in more than one place, at the same time. The heads on a HDD are no different. If requests for multiple reads are made, the heads will position themselves over on place on the platters, read, and then move to the next requested location, and so on. However, with multiple HDD's, and a good, fast controller, the heads of each HDD will be placed, where necessary, so reads are done at once, from multiple locations.
For ultimate performance, a good setup would be as follows:
C:\ system OS and programs (more reading being done here, than writing)
D:\ Project files (PREL's in this case)
E:\ RAID 0 Scratch Disks for Media Cache, but not Render files (both reading and writing)
F:\ RAID 0 Media files (more reading, but also writing)
    G:\ RAID 0 Export/Share and Render files
Some go so far as to separate out Audio Assets from Video Assets, and use a separate RAID 0 for each
The downside of that "ultimate performance" setup, is that when a Project is completed, to clean up, one has to go to many HDD's, and locations. There can also be issues when Archiving a Project, because things are scattered about.
I get "good performance" by having my Project, Copies of my Assets and all Scratch Disks on one HDD. What I give up in performance, I make up for with housekeeping chores, when the Project is done. I still spread my OS/programs from my Projects, with separate physical HDD's.
Good luck, and hope that this helps,
    Hunt
PS - Above, I mention RAID 0, but even greater speed can be achieved via many HDD's in the Array, and perhaps a RAID 50. RAID 0 is just two physical HDD's. Also, for RAID, I recommend a dedicated RAID controller card, and NOT software, or the MoBo's RAID capability.

  • Is there an adapter can i get so square will work with the otterbox i have on my iphone

Is there an adapter can i get so square will work with the otterbox i have on my iphone, I love the otterbox and want to keep it on all the time. not only does it protect my iphone it, it makes it easy for me to hold because I have trouble with my hands. please help

That's a good question. The main problem with the Square readers is that the plug is designed to send data to devices, rendering most headphone extension cables useless.
Reading another forum I saw this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BN7XSM
Give that a try. Claims to work perfectly for Square. NOT headphones.

  • Can someone translate these broadcast file specs?

    Hi -
I'm totally confused by these Comcast broadcast specs -  http://vpcinc.net/ftp/RCA/Masons Spots/OMC Encoding Standards.doc
Over the past years I've made some AE animations (CS5/Mac10.6) that were posted on the web.  Now the question is, "can I do the same for TV?".  But the spec sheet doesn't even mention After Effects!  Suddenly I have to make decisions that I've never made before and I hope  I can get some clear insight from the experienced folks here.
The spot will contain a short video (7-9 seconds) but the rest of the 30sec will be audio with stills and text.
If the spec sheet doesn't mention After Effects does that mean I have to use FCP - which IS mentioned?  (How do I make animations in FCP??)
Let's say, for simplicity sake, I decide to work in SD.  That means that the short video clip should be shot at... what camera settings?  The spec sheet shows 720x486, 720x480 and 720x512.... so do I shoot at 4:3 or 16:9 (or what is NTSC-CCIR 601/DV ??).
Can someone translate this for me and help me grasp the specs to follow for shooting and outputing this project?
    TIA your patience and input.
    JL

The SD specs are all 4:3 formats (look at the aspect ratio row). You can shoot in 16x9, but will need to letterbox it. I think Final Cut is mentioned just because its so widely used. And the fact they accept Quicktime & ProRes is important to know (it's arguably the best quality delivery format of the four choices they give you, but will also be the biggest files to upload.)
Use the AE NTSC D1 or NTSC DV preset and you'll be golden.
Be sure to render using the DV Render Setting to get correct field rendering. Configure the Output Module to Quicktime movie with ProRes 422. with uncompressed 16bit / 48KHz audio (if there is audio). Tell ProRes it's interlaced footage by clicking the 'Format Option' button, then the 'Codec Option' button in the Output Module settings.
Or render to an uncompressed format and use another media encoder. (iFFMPEG is my favorite for MPEG-2, Handbrake for h.264)

  • Can't get these games to work on Intel Mac!!!!

    http://www.the7thwar.net/ventcore/downloads
Sorry, I know this is the wrong place to post this. But I cannot get these games to work on my computer, and I want them to in such a bad way. If anybody can figure this out, I will lick the soles of their shoes. I apoligze once again, but I don't know where the proper place to post would be.

I'll talk with my head producer.
in case you're interested I'm one of the geeks who's
worked for Bungie to port their software to OSX.
    1. I know that Halo is Universal
    2. Oni will be soon.
    3. I'm not sure about Myth (It's on OSX)
    4. The rest are a bit old...
    regards,
    Pete.
That's **** cool. I love the whole Marathon, PID, Halo interconnectedness motif. If you could give some kudos to the men responsible for that on my behalf that'd be great.
Do you think that there would be an emulator available anywhere, or is it too soon yet for an Intel Mac to have that kind of support from independant parties. Thanks for the reply!

  • Which of these stereos will work best w/ my iPhone 4 in my 2003 Chevy S10?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new stereo deck for my 2003 Chevy S10 that will work with my iPhone 4. Which of these do you think would do the trick the best? Thanks a lot!
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/part-finder/slide-show/2003/Chevrolet/S10/ref=aupf_dp_lf_lad_14?ie=UTF8&partsNode=10980621&carId=001

You're probably not going to get a good answer in here as this is a forum specifically for the iPhone, and not car stereo head units. My suggestion is to read the user reviews on Amazon or Crutchfield.com and make sure the unit you're interested in works with iP4. It seems with each OS update, some car stereo units no longer work with the iP4.

  • Can someone confirm that "Sent" and "Trash" can hold more than 200 email?

Can some confirm that Mail on iPad/iPhone
can hold more than 200 email in the "Sent" and "Trash" folders, and that
setting "Show 200 Most Recent Msgs" affects only the size of "Inbox" ?
    Thanks in advance.
(The ISP offers only a POP server; no IMAP or MS Exchange.)

Check the bit rate for your songs. If 200 songs use up 7GB, they must be in a large bit rate format.
In iTunes, highlight a song and click on File/Get Info/Summary and check the Kind, Size and Bit Rate. Apple's figures for the number of songs on an iPod is based on a four minute song at 128Kbps.
I have a song in three different formats  in my iTunes Library. Notice the difference is Size for the different formats. The song is 3 minutes 55 seconds long.
Kind is AAC audio file. Size is 7.5MB. Bit Rate is 256Kbps
Kind is Apple Losslesss audio file. Size is 20.8MB. Bit Rate is 738Kbps.
Kind is AAC audio file. Size is 3.8MB. Bit Rate is 128Kbps
Notice the enormous difference. I believe the iTunes Store now sells MP3s in 256KBps format, wheras they used to be in 128Kbps MP3 format. For a given Bit Rate, the MP3 format is about the same size as Apple's AAC format.
So you will need to check several songs, because there will be a variety, I'm sure.
