Can someone hack your information through an email?

I was checking my email on my Gmail app on my iPhone 5 and I opened an email from my venue coordinator. The message was an obvious scam saying that she was on vacation in Kiev, Ukraine and she was mugged, now she needs $2,200 to get home and wanted me to loan her the money. I knew this was a scam for several reasons, 1.) I know for a fact she is NOT in the Ukraine as I had just spoken to her a few days ago. 2.) She would never ask me for a personal loan since we have no personal relationship, just a business arrangement. 3.) There was a warning from Gmail at the top of the message saying "Be careful with this message. It contains content that's typically used to steal personal information." So now, my concern is, by opening this email have I exposed myself and put my information at risk? There was no link or attachment to the email, but at the end of the message it did ask me to keep checking my email because this was "her only way of contacting me." Is it possible by just opening this email I've put myself at risk?

Is it possible by just opening this email I've put myself at risk?
The short answer is no.
All apps on the iPhone / iPad are curated by app. Apple checks for malware.  There is no known malware on iPhone/iPad.
By opening the email, the sender may be able to tell your email address is valid.  This is done by including a picture in the email.  You can turn off auto retrieval of pictures if you wish.
As a point of logic,  it is impossible / difficult to prove that there is no malware on iPhone/iPad.

  • Can someone hack your iPhone if they have your Apple ID information

If someone gained access to your apple login could they install a virus on your iPhone, or view your iPhone data that isn't available on icloud (e.g seeing pictures if photo stream is disabled on the iPhone). This data is only on the iPhone, and hasn't been backed up on iTunes.

If your Apple ID, which is probably also your iCloud account, is hacked, there are a number of bad consequences. First, any data in your iCloud account becomes accessible to the hacker. Do not store any sensitive data in the cloud unless you have it encrypted somehow.
Further, as has already been pointed out, access to your Apple ID gives the hacker the ability to locate your phone on a map, remotely erase the phone or lock the phone, if you have Find My iPhone turned on on the phone. Note that in iOS 7, a locked phone cannot be used at all in the future without access to the Apple ID used to lock it. This is important.
The biggest danger is that the hacker could take control of your Apple ID away from you by changing the password, rescue e-mail address and security questions. If that were to happen, you might be unable to regain control of the Apple ID, and if your phone were locked, you might never be able to unlock it. That is very, very bad, but can be prevented by enabling two-factor authentication on your Apple ID. This won't necessarily prevent your iCloud account from getting hacked, since this is not used for iCloud logins, but it will prevent a hacker from being able to modify the Apple ID in any way.

  • Can someone hack into my MacBook Pro even it's not connected to the internet and both Wi-fi and Bluetooth services are off?

    Hi,
Need to know if someone can hack into my MacBook Pro even if it's not connected to the internet and both Wi-fi and Bluetooth services are off? Can someone enter my system even if the settings at System Preferences > Sharing are all off?

    Yes,
Through Bonjour, Apple's open source zero configuration networking.
    https://developer.apple.com/bonjour/
    http://flylib.com/books/en/2.434.1.105/1/
And you can't turn it off or your computer won't work, however saving grace is the hacker has to be pretty close to your machine to do it.

  • Im trying to send out a word doc and it tells me I need to set up an account with enterage. I already have my email set up with regular mail? How can I send it out through my email that is active?

Im trying to send out a word document via email. It tells me it cannot send because I have not yet set up an account with enterage. My email is active already with Apple regular mail program. How can I send it out through reg mail?

Save the Word document. Create your email in your normal mail application (Mail?), click on the add attachment icon (the paperclip if you are using Mail). Navigate to where you saved the Word file and select it. It should now appear as an attachment in your email. If you are sending it to a PC user and you are using Mail make sure 'Send Windows-friendly attachments' is selected in the edit menu. And if you don't want the attachment to display inline within the body of the email Control+Click on it and select 'view as icon'.

  • Can someone hack my iphone and send texts from my phone number?

Someone said they were getting texts from my phone number but I didn't send them.  Is that possible that someone hacked my iPhone and sent messages under my phone number?

No. If your phone is not jailbroken, they can not do so.
There are plenty of ways to spoof the caller ID string, though. It's illegal, but it can be done. The messages are not being sent from your phone. They are being sent from somewhere else by someone masquerading as you.

  • Why can I not get JPEGs through IMAP email

I was able to recieve JPEGs and view them and then one day nothing. I can recieve all other picture files, but not JPEGs through IMAP email. I have already contacted IMAP problem. Wanting to see if anyone else is having this issue.

iCloud mail only works with @me.com, just like the message says. If you want to view mail in iCloud, you can make an @me.com address, then you can set up forwarding on your MSN account so emails will be forwarded from MSN mail to iCloud mail.

  • I have a macbook air.. Can someone hack my keychain access through an email download attachment link?

I own a Macbook air.. I have just recently went into my gmail account and opened an email from a person that was interested in buying an item that I was selling from craigslist. The email sounded legit, not like a scam.. I usually can spot those out. So then I happen to notice an attachment download link at the bottom, like it was a picture or something. So I opened it, and all of a sudden this "set of keys icon" popped up and starting showing all of my passwords, and certficates, and files from my computer... i went and googled what the keys meant, and it is my computer keychain access.. Which stores and backs up all of my login in passwords and informtion, and administrative options for the computer.. What I am wondering is why would this have opened up as soon as I opened a random email? Am I being hacked for all of my login information, and passwords? Can he access all of what this "Keychain access" is showing me? I am kind of scared and nervous now, because I have never since I have owned this laptop, seen this kind of thing before, expecially opening it up in an email. Please someone, can you give me answers to my concerns. Thank You. Julia.

That was an S/MIME cryptographic signature. The Keychain Access application opened so you could add the sender's public key to your keychain. It's not hacking.

  • Can someone hack into your ipad and send emails?

there is an email in my sent (yahoo) mail that says "sent from ipad" but i didn't send it. how is that possible?

There is no way to remotely control the iPad. If your Yahoo account was hacked, someone may have picked up one of your more recent emails sent from the iPad, and used the same signature. "Sent from iPad" is just a line of text that is put in there by default by Apple, but can easily be replicated or copied (or changed).

  • How can someone else have the same iCloud email address as me?

I registered for my iTools account as soon as they were offered and have had the same email address ever since.
My account has not been hacked and I regularly change my password for the account.
I frequently get emails from Apple notifying me that someone has attempted a password reset on my account.
I have over the past two years received a steady stream of emails correctly addressed to me, but obviously meant for other folks.
Some in the US and others in Europe and beyond.
The emails contain payslips, mortgage offers, confirmation of appointments for restaurants and car servicing.
Having read these and many other forums, I believe Apple, like Google allow the use of the same email address by multiple people.
This may be because even if the desired mac.com or iCloud.com or me.com addresses are unavailable, Apple allows an alias to be created.
This should not be the case.  At least to my mind it should not be so.
I am most concerned that if I am able to receive their emails, they may be receiving mine.
I pay for Apple's services and expect them to be secure.
Anyone else feeling uneasy about this?

It's most unlikely that anyone else has your address: if your address (obviously don't post it here) uses a fairly common name as many of the early ones do, then you are liable to get idiots coming to the conclusion that they own it because their name is the same. They give it out, and you get their messages. It sounds insane, but it does happen quite a bit - people can be quite incredibly stupid.
It's unlikely that anyone is receiving your email, particularly as you've changed the password. You should contact Apple as even if it's the case I've described it counts as a security issue, though it's not that easy to see what can be done about it.

  • Re: "We can't Verify Your Information" 10 Day Waiting Period?

I have the exact same issue with my bestbuy.com account that happened Saturday morning when trying to place some additional orders for the black friday/saturday sales. I am an elite plus member and frequently have issues ordering. This time it wasnt a matter of my bestbuy store card having the invalid CVC code issue (which happens all the time). I could talk for hours on how many times I have called bestbuy.com/citibank cc services/citibank cc fraud department and back and forth (2-3 hour conversations sometimes). It all ends up being the blame game. I was told I have a case opened for this issue that I later received a generic email saying it was my problem and to verify my information matches my billing information (even though I told them I tried 3-4 credit cards on the website to order) and I was told by a BB.com rep that I could try 10 cards and they will cancel every order due to this verification problem. I need someone to forward my concern to BB back office team that can address this issue. Thanks.

    Hello cougs57,
I’m all for getting a great deal on something that I’d already be purchasing, especially if I can order it online and have it delivered right to my front door. It’s disappointing to hear your orders are cancelling without a concrete answer as to why though. It sounds like you’ve tried everything you possibly can to make sure your order processed, so I apologize if we were less than helpful when you called us for assistance.
After reviewing your online order history, I believe I know what the problem might be. Just to be sure though, please know I’m partnering with one of our internal support teams to see if we might be able to provide you with some concrete information. I hope to have some answers for you within the next couple of business days, and I’ll be sure to contact you once more information becomes available.
    Thank you for your patience,

  • Can a hacker be stopped through Firefox

I have had to change my passwords for FB and e-mail at least 3 times in the last couple of days. Under my FB account it shows someone in Mount Laurel, N.J. is signing into my account. I have written down the complete IP address of this hacker. They also sent e-mails to friends, oddly enough just saying hi or hello and nothing obscene, for now. How can they be stopped? I am computer illiterate so if you have a solution just be specific...and patient. Please, please help. Thanks.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

I believe Express Lane can provide live chat via email. At least this is what I've just been told by someone in Applecare Agreements Administraton. Haven't tried it myself because right now there's a system glitch and it's not accepting my particular serial #.

I've been seeing this kind of often. I think there's some misunderstanding about the use of Helpful and Correct. Don't know why; I would have thought it would be perfectly clear.
