Can someone help me hook up a 2nd monitor to my iMac 2011 ?

i bought an asus 23" hdmi monitor and would like to connect it to my 2011 i5 iMac
i purchased a minidisplay hdmi cable and plugged it all in and the monitor keeps telling me it isn't getting any hdmi input ... the imac doesn't detect it
i have hooked up the same monitor via the same cable to a current model mac min and the monitor works perfectly
i have reset the pram and that didn't help
is there a step that i am missing ? ... is there a checklist somewhere ?
i have done a fair bit of research and have read apple's support on the issue but can't get anywhere with this ?
can thunderbolt ports be tested ? ... do they go bad ?
is it worth getting an dvi connector (i don't need sound) ?

Hi, what is the rez of that Monitor?
Supports dual simultaneous displays -- 1920x1200 on an HDMI display or a DVI display using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and 2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with adapter).
Does it work on the HDMI port by itself?

What you are asking isn't clear. Are you saying that you are not getting any temp readout for the drive? What are you using to see the internal temps? If you aren't getting any output from the drive temp sensor, the drive fan should be revving up full speed. Is this happening?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Try putting it into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Are your Store location and other details set up correctly on the Apple TV. have you tried de/re-authorising your MacBook.

You can only get help from those people who told you to modify the software, only they know what the jailbreak did to the firmware.

What do you mean it won't hook up to iTunes? you mean iTunes does not recognize the device? If that's what you mean, one of these might be helpful.

Now go to your router's settings. Not sure who makes your router...
Look at wireless part of it and see how many computers are actually hooked up to it.
Delete your computer from it (in your router).
Restart your router.
After your router has restarted, try to connect to it with your MB and see if you can browse the net.

Have the same problem with one room in my house. The good news; my internet provider told me about a device which boosts the signal through the the houses wiring. You plug the sender into an electrical outlet and your USB output, the receiver / transmitter you plug into an outlet in the room with the poor signal and use Wi-Fi as always. It priced in around $30 to $40. The bad news; I just don't remember what it was called, but I'm sure if contact your provider or local electronics store, discribe what your looking for they can hook you up with the needed hardware. I can not send email from my iPhone 3g using me dot com. Can someone help?

I have had my iPhone 3g for 2 weeks now I believe and in this time have received tons of e mails but when I try to reply or send a new e mail I get the message "The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.mac.com" failed."
I don't see why since my wifi is connected and does everything else, like surf the web, download updates to apps and receive e mail.
Can someone help me figure this out? I also just purchased an iPod touch which will be using wifi only so I'm scared that it too will have the same problem

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.

"Your email account" means to tap on the name of your email account. Whatever it is listed as in the settings.
In my mail settings, one of my email accounts is a Comcast account. I tap on the Comcast name and it brings up this window.
Then I tap on the arrow under the Outgoing mail server smtp setting to get to the next window.
In the resulting window, I then tap on the arrow next to the smtp server under the Primary Server setting.
That brings up this window in which I check to make sure that my user name and password have been entered correctly. If those items are missing, enter them in the appropriate fields and then tap done.

IF you do find a backup that has your contacts; I'd /highly/ recommand turning off your wifi network after the restore is finished because if the issue is with your iCloud your contacts may merge back with her's.
With iCloud you DO NOT want to share the account; bad things happen Evil evil thigns...
But in all seriousness; if two devices have the same iCloud; iCloud is told to merge and sync infomation between hte two and can't tell that it doesn't belong to the same person

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
