Can someone help with importing video from Canon XA10 (AVCHD) into PE 11?

In PE 11 when I import video from my canon xa10 (avchd) the quality is terrible, I also have a canon xa20, 60D and gopro that I video with and they all turn out with great video quality.  Is there a reason why the xa10 video quality is bad? Setting I need to change?

Thanks for the follow up.
In Premiere Elements 11 and 12 takes over setting the project preset based on the properties of the first file drag to the Timeline. Sometimes it does it right; sometimes not. You can check what the project has set by using the readings from Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields look grayed out. If the project preset is set for NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080p30, then the Edit Menu/Project Settings/General should be as represented in the following screenshot
Please refer to setting the project preset yourself manually and then importing the source media into the project.

Depending on how the current stage of troubleshooting progresses, you might want to post a screenshot
of your Expert workspace, showing the Edit area monitor display of the rendered Timeline.
We will be watching for your results.
Thank you.

I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x.  When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists 'iPhoto Library' as GRAY, and will not let me select it.  I need the videos out of there.  I have tried every way I can think of.

I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible.  I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'

  • Can Pre Pro CS6 edit video from Canon XA10 without transcoding?

    Can Premiere Pro CS6 edit video from a Canon XA10 camera (XP+ mode 1440 x 1080) on a PC (Win7 64 i7 860 4GB) without any prior transcoding?
I would like to emphasize the 1440 x 1080 source video part because other editing software I have tried doesn't fully support this format.
    Thanks

    Yes.

  • Can someone help with Import question?

Don't laugh at my imovie version! I have 300 gigs of edited iMovie files that were originally brought into a Mac on 9.2 with iMovie 2.1.1!
The files are on 3 separate hard drives: Maxtor and 2 EZquests. This Mac would boot to system 10 and I could work with all 3 hard drives and all the files. Now when I boot to System 10, it is 10.4.7 and iMOvie 4.0.1. The files are all grayed out if I try to import except for he older Maxtor files are still usable. But not the two EzQuest which I need!
I need to convert the imovie files to .avi and do not see this as an option on imovie 2.1.1 I have them all in Qtime 7 but they do not convert with very good quality to .avi.
I am not clear why I can no longer open/import them. They are on the same original external hard drives but the system and/or iMovie may have been updated. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    prea

Forget any iMovie version as any export (Export Settings) to AVI will still use the ancient Cinepak compressor.
They will look better than your already compressed QuickTime .mov files but you'll get better results creating MPEG-1 files from them and avoid the AVI container.
I suggest you invest in Toast (http://roxio.com). For about $80 you can create VCD or SVCD files that are really MPEG-1 files. The conversion is fairly fast and you don't actually need to "burn" the CD. Just drag the blah.DAT from the image to the Desktop and change the file extension to .mpg
In your iMovie folders are .dv files of your clips. Use them as the source files in Toast and join or edit them using the free MPEG Streamclip app.

  • Help with importing video from digi camera

Hey guys, we made a short movie on the spur of the moment so we just used my digital camera and when I plugged it into the computer it would only show up in iPhoto obviously. But I imported the movies into iPhoto and then I was hoping to import them from there into iMovie but when I do it only zooms in on the first frame and doesnt play the clip. Is there any way to be able to get a video off of the digi camera and be able to edit it on iMovie, Thanks.

Another thing you can do, is put the video clip on your desktop from your digi camera. And then in iMovie, do File > Import and then open your video clip from your desktop.

  • How to import video from canon xa10

I can import video file from canon xa-10 camcorder to Final Cut Pro X. Please help.

I have an XA10 and do this all the time.
As Tom said, you just need to connect the camera using the USB cable and then do an "Import from Camera" from within FCPX.
And yes, once you choose which clips (or which portions of clips) you want to import and then close the import window, FCPX has to transcode them.  However, you can begin editing while it is working on transcoding the files.
However, if you disconnect the camera before FCPX has finished the transcode, the media won't be there the next time.  This stuff isn't magic.  It still has to transcode.  The only "magic" of FCPX is that you can start editing the footage before the transcode is complete...assuming, of course, you leave the media connected.
Copying files over first and then trying to import does not work.  You have to do it from the camera.
The difference would be if you were recording to an SD card (which the XA10 will do), instead of the camera's built-in flash memory.  You can disconnect the camera and just connect a card reader (and the card, of course).  But the same principle would apply.  You could start editing while FCPX is transcoding, but don't expect it to all be there if you disconnect the card reader or shut down FCPX before finishing the transcoding process.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can someone help with my video setting?

I have a bunch of small, heavily compressed AVI clips that I want to edit together. But I can't figure out how to export it with the best quality. The dimensions are 640x480, but those dimensions are always different on the exported video- I'm so confused. Here is the data of my video, if someone can help me find the settings that will keep my videos at the same or almost the same quality I would be so grateful!

    Hi,
This link takes you to some info about your file ( pasted below )..and from this link you can probably also find more info as it applies to your needs...maybe.....
Also, Bill Hunt's suggestion and questions seem important ...you could give more info about what you are doing and using ( version premiere) etc etc

Hello!! Hopefully I am posting in the proper section. If not, I will be glad to repost in the proper area. I am hoping that a fellow ModtheSims2 member who has experimented with movie making in the sims 2 and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 could answer my question: I have been toying around with movie-making in the game
I film (or capture)the video clips (or shall I say computer game animations)using the game's best option of a resolution of 640 x 480 at 30 fps with audio at 11025hz 16-Bit mono (compressed). As you are surely aware the game saves the file into AVI format with the VP61 codec. When I open and view the AVI files using Microsoft Windows Media Player, the image is beautiful and crystal clear!!
If I import the AVI file into Windows Movie Maker 2.0, same thing, the image is beautiful and crystal clear!! But here is the problem, when I import the same AVI file into Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, and play the file into the source window, the video is heavily pixelated, in fact very large square pixels...It almost appears like a mossiac over the entire video. I tried turning the frame blending off in Adobe Premiere under 'clip' and then 'video options' but that does not appear to help. All the latest drivers for everything on my PC have been installed. Here are my specs Windows Media Center Edition 2005
    P5W-DH Deluxe ASUS motherboard
    Intel Dual Core 2.4ghz processor
    2 XFX NVidia 7950GT graphic's card (512mb)
4GB Ram (although windows xp only uses about 2.5 to 3ghz of it)
    1 200gb hard drive
    1 500gb hard drive
Audigy 2 Platinum zs sound card Maybe Adobe does not support the VP61 codec, but I have not been able to confirm this anywhere. However I did find an article from the Adobe website about two machinima artists that use Adobe Premiere to make 'Sims 2' videos.
Here is the link to that article: http://www.adobe.com/motion/roosterteeth.html When I record using the game's top setting of 640 x 480 30fps, I am playing the game on a 20" widecreen LCD monitor with the resolution set at 1024 x 768. Might this be the problem? I found a 'cheat' on the internet to change the game's settings in the game's config. file so that it would capture the animations at 1024 x 768, like the resolution for my PC monitor. But once played in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, the clips still have the large square pixel problem... Its like big white and blue squares all over the image... But Maybe since I am using a widescreen monitor I must capture and edit in a true widecreen format like 1280x720 or above??? I dont know. I just find it weird that the AVI files play fine with Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Player but not with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Being the amature I am with Adobe, maybe I am doing something wrong. But I did search all the forums and cannot seem to find any info to fix the problem... Maybe I must convert the AVI files before importing them into Adobe, but if it could be avoided that would be cool ... so if you have any info that could help me it would be much appreciated!! Cheers!

I'm afraid I haven't used Adobe Premiere, but have you checked on their site and support forums? I've used TS2 video clips in other movie editing programs in the past, so the format does work - it certainly sounds like Adobe is having issues there. Have you tried different codecs? You may also want to go have a look at sims99.com, a TS2 machinima site, which may have more info.

Thank-you for your reply - I did post this question at the sites you mentionned and suprisingly received many responses from the Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 support forums It would appear the Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 does not like compressed AVI files and it would also appear that Adobe does not like the VP61 codec that the Sims 2 game uses to compress the movie file (AVI). When I capture the Sims 2 movies by setting the options to 'Large' (640 x 480) and 'High' (30fps) - then the clips will not play properly in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 But when I capture the Sims 2 movies by setting the options to 'Large' (640 x 480) and 'High, uncompressed' (30fps) - then the clips play properly in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 I thought I had tested this originally, but that it was not making a difference. But I must of messed up, because as I say, if I film compressed, the clips have the pixelation problems in Adobe. If I film uncompressed there is no problems with the clips in Adobe. The only downside is that uncompressed clips are very large. (Like 1.5GB for 60 second clip) Cheers!

    1. yes
    2. yes
    3. No. DVD players can't play BluRay discs -- even if they are burned to a DVD disc.
    4. 1080p50 is a perfectly legitimate mode for shooting, particularly if you're shooting video with a lot of action, since it has double the actual frames of 1080i50. However, your output video may or may not actually have 50p frames (or even be 1920x1080), depending on what form of media you're publishing as. The BluRay files that Premiere Elements outputs, for instance are 50i.

  • How do I import directly from Canon XA10 with Final Cut X?

How do I import directly from Canon XA10 with Final Cut X?

I have an XA10, and importing is quite simple.  But you do have to make sure your camera is set to the proper settings to allow you to import the files into FCPX.
First, make sure the camera is powered on.  Connect it through the USB connection.  Then open the camera's viewfinder and press the button on the side of the camera that allows you to see the videos you've shot in the viewfinder.  (This toggle button toggles between seeing what the camera is pointed at live and seeing the thumbnails of the video you've already shot that are stored on the internal memory card.)  Now, the camera will present you with a menu asking which memory card you want to look at (there's an internal flash memory card, plus you can insert SD cards as well).  Choose the memory card on which your videos are stored within the camera, and then you'll be good to go.
Now you can go into your FCPX event and do the Import from Camera.  Now the Import from Camera interface will open up and you'll be able to select the XA10, where it will present you with all the videos that are on the camera's memory card that you selected.
From here,  you can select individual videos and import them, or you can set in and out points on videos and just import the parts you want.

Can anyone help me move video from a Sony HDR-XR550 to ipad 3g via camera connector kit?

You can use iPhoto for the import. iLife apps are integrated. From within iMovie you have direct access to iTunes for adding music, and iPhoto for photos and videos in the iPhoto library.
Or you can use the Image Capture application for the import if you prefer placing such imports into manually created folders and not using iPhoto.

You must put in the required information. If you do not have it, you must get it from the original owner of the phone. If you have forgotten your iCloud password, you can reset it at:
    https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid
There is no such thing as an activation "bypass". Activation Lock is a security feature. It wouldn't be that secure is you could bypass it, wouldn't it?
