Can someone recomend another video player

I have a movie that plays without sounds...usually VLC will play sound if quicktime doesn't but this time VLC is not working either. What is another video player that might work?

none of my settings had changed...it was the audio codec i guess of what i wanted to watch....i did find a player that played the video with the sound, i would recomend it if anyone out there is having the same problem i had. It's called xine player

How can I remove a video player?

Hi, awhile back I installed a video player, that I can't even remember the name of now, and it plays all my video's being watched over the web with this player now, it does give me the option to use original player, but you have to be lightning quick to click it and even then sometimes it won't. Its driving me nuts! I hate it! Can anyone tell me please how to maybe find this program and delete it. And what is the default video player on the Mac supposed to be?

Can you embed a video player with a tracklist with in the menu?

I'm constructing a dvd but I would like to have all the videos playing in a smaller video player with audio on the main menu page. I'd like to have a track list next to the video player within the menu so the person viewing can quickly scroll through all the videos.
It's a bit hard to explain so I drew a diagram of what I'd like to do:

As you have found out, you won't be able to do this the way I think you are imagining is possible... DVDs just don't work the way that Flash or web pages do. There are significant limitations to prevent this from happening in a smooth manner, and as Eric intimated, you'll need to build a whole shedload of menus to even simulate the effect... and as you go through your track list and jump to each 'sub menu' you'll have to start each video clip from the beginning on each menu.
If you really wanted to you could have a whole series of duplicated sub menus that each have different clips from the same track and then use a set of scripts to select one at random so that the viewer doesn't repeatedly see the same start of a clip as they land on the same entry in your track list. Instead they'll see a randomly selected alternative from the same track.
But to even want to do this you've got to be certifiable...
Let alone the fact that each menu is a separate entity on your disc and there is no way you'll move smoothly between them as if it is one nice slick Flash movie - it'll have pauses and appear to stutter at each change.
What people tend to do instead is have a button for each of the tracks and put a video clip inside the button so the viewer can see all of the clip footage on one menu screen. A little 'old fashioned' in style, but massively more practical to achieve!

Can someone, if they know enough about the technology, tap into a video that is being sent through a Web cam? Can web cam video be captured by the receiver to use and play back later?

It is possible and I have heard of one or two Trojan (malicious programs) software that can activate a persons webcam without their knowledge. Any up to date spyware/anti virus program will be able to spot these application. To intercept a webcam video while streaming over the internet would be technically very difficult. It would be far easier for a party to hide their own wireless camera(s) in the area and therefore not rely on the PC being on and the installed webcam operating.

For anyone to try what you suggest, they would have to download all your captured video files etc. which would almost certainly amount to many gigabytes.
This could not be done over the internet.
It would be more useful if you posted exact details of your project and settings etc. and then someone might be able to spot what you are doing wrong.

I just got a new MacBook and downloaded some videos into it. When I play them they are playing full screen instead of in the little viewing box at the
bottom corner. I expect there is a preference to select this but I can't find it.

Files with the .avi extension could be several different codecs. A free third party plugin for Apple's Quicktime Player called Perian (http://www.perian.org/) allows Quicktime to play a wide variety of video files, including most with the .avi extension. Also, make sure to download and install the FlipForMac extension ( http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx ) for .wmv files.

I've actually downloaded and installed ffmpeg but the problem I'm experiencing now is that the videos do not convert. The program starts to work and then three seconds later I get the dialog box that says everything has been converted but the file created is 0KB and of course will not open.
Any ideas about what could be going wrong? I've attempted to convert the files to different formats and try converting different files as well. I still have the problem.
BTW, I'm just using iMovie to collect all my real videos together so that I can watch them as a DVD (for convenience). That's all.

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).

I am getting annoying popups from a site in Spain claiming Firefox recommends I download an updated video player from them. Looks like SPYWARE! MAKE IT STOP!

It explains things on my end. I hope you guys are not in on this. It's intrusive and rather pushy at that. I don't feel I should have to download another video player. The name of the company is updatevideos.com. I went there and it took me to api.adrenalads.com and then to mojopages.com!!! If some lumphead is trying to get over on me , I ain,t buyin'!!!

Hi rimshot69, did you check for an extension in Firefox? To see whether one of those might be involved, you could try one of the following:
(1) Manually Disable ALL nonessential and/or unrecognized extensions on the following screen. If in doubt, disable:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Then restart Firefox using the handy links provided for that purpose and see whether the messages stop.
(2) Test in Firefox's Safe Mode
That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
