Can Someone Recommend a Path?

I thank everyone who might take the time to reflect on my question and answer in advance, and please pardon the newbie perspective.
I'm a publisher, know how to make ebooks in InDesign with multimedia. Is there a work path that will let me design my ebooks in InDesign, export to Flash and then to an Apple app for the book? I know Apple doesn't support Flash per se - but would things like flipping pages and animation or video transition and be available in the packaged app?  Anyone have any suggestions for me? Links where there is more information... tutorials?  I have a subscription to Lynda.com - but can't find anything that addresses this. I'd also like to know whether I can create an app for the Android platform from the same Flash file?

Dave,
You first need to open the forms .fmb files in Forms 6i or higher and save it again.
Then you can use the saved 6i or higher format with JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator.

  • Can someone recommend a replacement hard drive for my June 2009 17"MBP?

I need at least 750GB. My current HD is 500GB but I only have 90GB remaining as I have a lot of videos stored on the machine. Can someone recommend a HD that has at least 750GB of space and performs well with a 17"MBP?

If you are expecting to copy commercial, theatrical DVDs to any hard drive, DVDs are copy protected and you will find that no computer will let you copy copy-protected commercial DVDs.
If your movies are purchased downloads from other sources like iTunes or Ultraviolet digital copies, then you will be able to make a limited number of copies for backup and storage onto an external hard drive
There are ways to overcome this issue, but we are not allowed to discuss anything about DVDs that can break that copy protection.
So, no one in these forums will be able to help you with that issue.
You will have to do your own Internet searches for your own solutions to this issue.

Can someone recommend a compatible CD/DVD burner for a MacBook Pro? I have returned two burners, so far, that were not compatible,.

True to the extent that out of the box they indeed will not work with Macs other than Airs and Retinas.  However a minor modification WILL make them compatible with other Macs.  Here are the instructions:

Thus it is a valid choice for consideration.

  • Can someone explain shortest path switch over in Multicast?

Can someone explain shortest path switch overin Multicast?

    Hi,
Shortest path switchover is used in PIM Sparse mode.
The concept of Sparse Mode is the multicast traffic should only be delivered when there are active receivers in the network. To accomplish this SM has explicit Join and Prune mechanism rather than Flood and Prune used by Dense mode.
When the last hop router (where receiver is connected) receives an IGMP join message, it sends a PIM Join towards RP. This creates shared tree from the last hop router till RP along the routers. Thus a shared tree has been created from last hop router till RP.
At the same time the above procedure was taking place, the first hop router (where source is connected) starts sending PIM Register messages to RP (when source starts sending multicast traffic). This register messages are unicast so that the intermediate routers will not aware of multicast traffic. When the RP receives Register messages from first hop rotuer, it does below checks after decapsulation:
    1. Are there any shared tree for the specific multicast group. If yes then send a SPT join towards first hop router so that the multicast traffic from source will be delivered to RP via native multicast rather than encapsualted packets. Also RP sends Register Stop message to inform first hop router to stop sending encapsulated multicast packets.
    2. When there are no active groups in RP (i.e RP has not received any PIM join for the multicast group from any last hop router), RP sends a Register Stop message.
By this the traffic from source flows via SPT till RP. From RP it flows via shared tree till receiver. Everything is fine till now. But the drawback in SM is placement of RP and the load on it. Since RP is located in a central location chances are there that the multicast traffic from source takes a longer path to reach the receiver. This will result in increase in latency along with increase in RP load.
So in those cases, it is desirable for the multicast traffic from source flows to receiver on optimal path. This is done by SPT switchover and this is done when the multicast group traffic crosses the SPT threshold configured. In Cisco the default SPT threshold is Zero kbps. So when the last hop router receives first multicast packet via shared tree, it does SPT switchover. This is done by sending a SPT Join towards the source thus bypassing the RP. Now the traffic from source prefers the most optimal path to reach the receiver.
The same time, last hop router sends a PIM prune towards RP to inform it that it does not want multicast traffic over shared tree. This is done to avoid duplication of the multicast packets over SPT and shared tree.
    Few facts:
    1. Last hop router needs information about the source to send SPT Join and this can only happen when it receives few initial multicast packets via RP shared tree.
    2. If you do not want the last hop router to fall back to SPT switchover, then configure SPT threshold to infinity in last hop router.
    Sorry for the long post.

    thanks

  • Can someone recommend a monitor

I have a PB AL 1.67ghz. I want to get an inexpensive 17-19 inch monitor to use at the desk with it.
Can someone recommend a good monitor. Not looking to spend to much.$200-$300 if possible.
    Thanks

    Hi musicmaker --
You know the drill, the whole cost versus features versus what you need it for calculus, etc., but I have a friend who just picked up a Dell 17" for $279, and she likes it very much as sort of an all around utility monitor. Macworld gave a pretty good review too: http://www.macworld.com/2006/04/reviews/dell1707fp/index.php
    Something to consider.

  • Can someone recommend a nice 27" monitor for my 15"Macbook Pro

    Hi,
my boss just bought me a 27" Apple display for work.  I will also be working from home and would like to get another 27" for there - while I would love to get another Apple display, the cost prohibits this.
I was looking at the Viewsonic VX2739WM any thoughts on this or other recommendations - Thanks,

I can't recommend a 27" because I do not own one.  That said, I own a Samsung Syncmaster 2493HM for a couple of years now which I bought used and I am quite happy with it (running in DVI via thunderbolt/mini display port).  It also has VGA and HDMI inputs.
I would check NewEgg.com for reviews.  If you have the money to cough up, the apple displays are as sweet as pie....

  • Can someone recommend a car stereo to connect my ipod too?

have a 99 camry, have tried tape to ipod and fm trasnmittor to ipod, both are very poor quality, would like to replace my current cd player with one that directly connects to an ipod, hopefully within $100-$150 range
    can anyone recommend one?

Contact Mercedes if you want to use the dock connector for the the input to the car system. Does Mercedes say it is compatible with your model iPod and its iOS version?
Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
You can get a cable that goes from the headphone jack and an AUX in on the car system if the car system has such an input.

I want to create PDFs on my new Mac Pro, can someone recommed a download from Apple IStore?

The Mac OS has built-in PDF generation. Anthing you can print, you can create a PDF.
In some apps like Preview, you can do "Save as..." to create the PDF:
In other apps you have PDF options at the bottom left of the "Print..." dialog box:
Basically you have no need to spend money to create simple PDFs.

  • Can someone recommend wireless hotspots that have uPnP or NAT-PMP?

    I have a 2014 Macbook Pro.
I was just provided a new Verizon Jetpack MiFi 6620L.
When trying to connect via Back To My Mac, the connection constantly goes into "Reconnecting" mode.
Further reading indicates that the "router" that I connect to should have uPnP or NAT-PMP capability.  The Jetpack has neither.
Could someone recommend a wireless card or help be get my configuration correct so the connection remains more stable?
    TIA - Jp

I should have been more precise in what I'm looking for.  The Verizon Jetpack is a broadband wireless card that acts like a router.  It is not a standard router as was previously suggested.

  • Can someone recommend good settings for HC Encoder?

    Hi all,
I have an SD, 25p 16:9 movie that I wish to encode for burning to DVD.  Now, it is an .avi that was made with Avisynth.  I wish to know what settings you recommend while using HC Encoder.  I just want to minimize loss of quality and be able to put the .m2v into Encore.
I have searched the web many times trying to find this answer but there seems to be little documentation/tutorials for this encoder.
I would appreciate any help with this.  Thanks!

    Hi,
the language used is not important. Ideally it would be explained in a language independent way :)
What's most important is that I get to understand beyond just cutting and pasting. I understand vectors and trigonometry and basic algebra and a little physics so a book that would assume a person is rusty in these areas would be great. hmm maybe I need to buy some school text books!!!!
I found the following books below if someone has read one and can help me decide which to buy that would be great. Otherwise I'll have to buy all 4!

  • Can someone recommend a NAS device that works well with Macs?

I need to have a NAS (network attached storage) device that can be freely accessed by windows and mac computers. I rashly purchased an HP Mediavault; it was only $300 and has 2 500GB drives that I configured as raid-1 for safety. however if I load up a folder with 4000 files in it and browse to that directory, the mac finder thinks about this for say 30 seconds before it lists the files. The Windows machine can view the files in perhaps 4 seconds. I know that Macs have a slow file system but watching the little light blink on the NAS box and waiting so long is getting real annoying. Has anyone found a box that works well with macs and has good performance? These devices are so cheap now they must have crappy processors and stupid firmware. Perhaps someone can recommend a model that has some snap. I also need remote access via the web, and the insane HP software can only upload single files, can't upload a folder, which when you are working with 30,000 files like I am is no fun at all!

It's not really the brand as it is available printer drivers. Just be sure you verify that there is an available OS X printer driver.
OS X- Printer and scanner software available for download
Check the manufacturer's website for available printer drivers for any model in which you are interested.

  • Can Someone Recommend Books/Tutorials On Drawing?

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times. I'm a typical web dev, who has usually depended on graphic artists for piccies. I'm fairly conversant with PS and InDesign, but I've never really gotten beyond pretty simple tasks in Illustrator. Most of the books I've looked at are either real basic or far too advanced. Obviously one has to learn to break down really complicated things, like a face or whatever into a series of 'paths' but when I look at a tutorial of a really complex illustration I can follow how they got there, but I also realise that I would -never- have been able to break it down on my own to create something similar.
In short, I want to get beyond 'line art' and buttons tracing things to real 'drawings'... things with depth and texture and I don't know how to make that 'leap'.
Any books/tutorials that might help me get  this sort of 'epiphany'?
    TIA,
    ---JC

Thanks. As luck would have it, the Adobe Classroom book was available @ my library... and it is great in some respects: I now realise how many gaps I had in my understanding of how paths work. That 15 minute 'Ah ha!' session was a breakthrough.
I looked @ the Bootcamp book (there is a sample tut on-line from one chapter) and it looks like what I want... It walks you through how he -sees- a design in terms of paths.... and that's -exactly- what I want to learn to do.

  • Can someone recommend a font style?

I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a font which is typically American or one which has a American feel/look? I don't know if such a thing exists - I have not properly checked yet!
    Any suggestions much appreciated!
    Many thanks in advance!
    Adam

    Adam,
As a designer, I also need more information to respond.
There are posters and handbills from the mid-19th century that were frequently done in decorative woodtype that are highly distinctive and very American. These are the familiar "Wanted!" posters of the American West, railroad "travel" posters and theatre production posters. But as we move into the 20th century, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Art Moderne, Bauhaus and other styles become more international in their scope and choices of fonts.
So, can you tell us more what you're looking for? And what time period?
    Neil
