Can't access App Store, new iMac right out of box

I hate to start another one of these threads but the only thing I've done since initially booting my Mac was try to access the App Store to download Xcode. Nothing has been installed. I can get to the Internet through our guest wireless. Everything is brand new straight from Apple as of today. No antivirus. We've tried making sure the class 3 public certificates are operating by first trying to set them to "trust always" then followed another threads instructions to get them set back to autos elect. Nothing. There's nothing on the computer, (other than mountain lion and ilife i think) so there's no danger of deleting any data, but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with. Help!

Ken ...
Congrats on your new iMac!
Check GateKeeper for downloading apps from the App Store.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click System Preferences.
Then select Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
If that area is greyed out, click the padlock icon bottom left corner of the window. You may be prompted for the admin password to make changes.
Restart your iMac and try downloading Xcode.
OS X: About Gatekeeper
but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with
New Macs no longer come with install discs. If it's necessary to reinstall OS X, repair the startup disk, or reformat, that must be done over the internet. Apple strongly recommends a broadband high speed connection.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Stuck in a limbo: can't install Safari or Lion/Mountain Lion, can't access App Store

If someone would take up this challenge and attempt to solve it with me, I would appreciate it! I have troubleshooted for 2 days now to no avail.
    This is what happened:
    1) I accidentally installed Safari 6.0, even if I have Lion 10.7. which doesn't run the new version
    2) This disabled my use of Safari and my access to App Store
    3) With a combination of AppDelete + Pacifist I tried deleting all Safari files, and re-installing old Safari 5.4 from scratch.
I rebooted, repaired permissions and did a disk check.
    4) Rebooted again, tried to open the newly installed Safari, but it gives an error:
"Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
    5) At this point I thought to revert back to a previous point in Time Machine. Unfortunately all the points in Time Machine somehow showed Safari 6.0 (even a month-old points), so reverting back to an old point didn't help.
    6) I try logging into AppStore to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I can't do that, since it needs Safari to run and I don't have a Safari anymore!
    7) Now I tried re-installing Lion from restart + cmd+R, and it asked for Apple ID to start the installation.
--> At this point I am getting desperate, as this computer was purchased second-hand, so I don't have the Apple ID used to install Lion!
    8) I try searching for Apple's official support, but obviously my warranty has expired, besides it's based in another country so they can only call cellphones from that country!
So I cannot enter App Store; reinstall Safari; reinstall Lion; or upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have no access to Apple official support. I currently work in a developing country with limited access to any MAC support.
I don't know what to try anymore!
    - How can I enter App Store without Safari?
    - How can I reinstall Lion without the original Apple ID?
    - How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without App Store?
    I'm STUCK! Please help!!

    Anyone?
I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
    i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Can't access app store or itunes after upgrading to iOS6

I upgraded my iphone to iOS 6 and now I can not access the app store or itunes, I have tried to use the new maps application and it odes not download the area map at all. This is very frustrating...

What happens when you try to access/use/download apps?
If there is an error message, what is the exact wording of that message?
Has the iPhone been jailbroken or modified to work with other than
    the original wireless provider?
Were any of the beta versions of iOS 7 ever installed on the iPhone?

  • Can't access App store

I briefly used my personal computer on the corporate network at Comcast's NY offices. They block access to the Mac App Store. I don't know what they did to get me online, but now when I try to access the Mac App Store, I get an error described below. Since I'm no longer working for them, I can't get tech support.
Details: the App Store icon in the dock shows that I have two updates, so it has some sort of connection to the server. When I click on it, it sometimes opens for a second before shutting down, sometimes it doesn't open at all. The popup i get reads "This Application (Mac App Store) has not been approved for use on our network. If there is a need for this to be enabled and you have a proper business justification, please contact the help desk at x8090 or http://cis (or your local IT) to open a ticket." An image is inserted below:
I don't use the app store that often - hence my not dealing with this earlier - but I have some things I need to install now (including the Mountain Lion upgrade) that aren't available anywhere else. You help is much appreciated!

Thanks Dahveed (laughing at your location description btw).
From what I could gather from tech support it has something to do with my using Migration Assistant to transfer stuff back to my personal laptop, which was so painfully slow that I had been using my work laptop for everything. They called this "cloning my image" off the work laptop, which I don't think is what Migration Assistant does, although I don't know the technical details. According them this would have installed their asset tracking software (Casper) on my personal machine, which would have have led to policies to be pushed down that would be blocking the app store. They said I would need to "reimage" (reinstall the OS?).
I finally bought a new, fast MacBook Air. I can live with the old one not having access to the App Store, but I want to use migration assistant to transfer everything without having this happen again on the new one.

  • Can only access App store from home, but can get on internet anywhere

I have a wifi-only iPad. I have no trouble accessing the internet anywhere that there is wifi available. However, I can never access the app store, and can never update such apps as USA Today, the New York Times, and the Kindle App unless I am in my house. How can I fix this?

The reason for that can be a bad WiFi connection, so the answer from the server is not coming quick enough (check the signal bars on your iPad) or the other reason could be that at this router certain ports are blocked.
Maybe go to a public WiFi with a good signal (usually a restaurant or coffee-shop)
    enjoy your magic machine
