Can't Access Different Boot Modes

Hi,
I am having an occasional boot issue with my Mac Mini (late 2012) where it just sits at a white screen. I am trying to boot the Mac into diagnostic mode (hold d or cmd d at boot) or clear the pram (option cmd p r) but neither work. When I press option cmd p r it boots into recovery mode, as if I had only pressed cmd r. I have tried using a bluetooth keyboard and a wired one with no luck. Please help!

OK, just had another failed boot so the issue isn't resolved. Basically the grey screen comes up after the boot sound but that is it, doesn't get as far as login screen. I've checked /var/log/system.log but the boot isn't even listed there so I'm guessing it didn't get far enough to start logging in that file. Are there any other logs I can check, or does anyone have any other ideas of what I can try?

Well for 10 you don't need any drivers :D this thing will overwrite all your driver and replace on their own from windows update, and you can't turn off WU also anytime you can receive update that will break your system.

Can you have different colour modes in one image?

I work on magazines which are half grayscale and half CMYK. Problem is that I don't know what spreads will be on what pages until I get close to completion. So what I do is make two copies of each image, a CMYK file and a grayscale copy and I find this a bit time consuming and tedious. When I'm working in Illustrator I make a CMYK layer and a Grayscale layer in the one file and switch between the two in InDesign by using the layer options. Is there a similar way to do this in Photoshop? I've experimented with layer comps and using adjustment layers such as Black and White and Channel Mixer, but the file still contains CMYK information which isn't what I need for my grayscale pages. Is there a way to make an adjustment layer that just contains grayscale information?

Sure. Use an RGB smart object in a container file that you switch between color spaces (CMYK > Grayscale > CMYK). You can create a droplet to convert the files for you, or call an action in PS on open files. Action a black and white adjustment layer being toggled on and off in the RGB smart object, for better conversion to grayscale.

CS5 - Can't access 32-bit mode

MacOS: 10.6.5
I was attempting to "Load Frames into Video" when I received the error that I needed to change into 32-bit mode. However when I selected 'Get Info' for the photoshop icon, this is what I see:
There is no option for 32-bit mode. Any help?

Can't Access EFI Device

I recently installed Carbon Copy Cloner for backup purposes. I erased my external USB drive, then did a full backup which is supposed to make this drive bootable. However, when I tried to test it from the Startup Disk dialog, the drive didn't show up. I then found the following error in my console which shows up each time I try to use the Startup Disk utility. CCC tech support says it has nothing to do with their product and that it's either a hardware or OS problem.

Apple Developer connection Technical Note TN2166 states the following:
"Copying Concerns
Be careful when doing a block-for-block copy of a GPT disk. The GUID in the partition table header
that identifies the disk (and the GUIDs in each partition entry) are meant to be globally unique, and
Apple's system software relies on this feature. If you block copy a disk, you should consider whether
it's appropriate to set these GUIDs to new values. For example:
If you're block copying a disk for the purposes of backup (that is, the copy is stored offline and can
only ever be restored on top of the original), you should not update the GUIDs in the GPT. That way,
when you restore the disk, it is completely identical to the original.
On the other hand, if you're duplicating the disk (that is, you're copying the contents of one disk to
another), you should update the GUIDs in the GPT. That way the system will see the original and the
copy as different disks.
If you don't follow this advice, you may encounter weird problems. For example, if you duplicate a
disk without updating the GUIDs, the computer might boot from either the original or the copy in an
unpredictable fashion (perhaps toggling from boot to boot)."
To sum it up, if you are using CCC, DO NOT select the "Backup Everything" option unless you know
how and insist upon, updating the GUIDS in the GPT.
From CCC help:
"The "Backup everything" method will attempt a block-level clone of your source volume if you have
indicated to "Delete items from the target that don't exist on the source". If you have not selected
that option, or if a block-level clone cannot proceed (see below), this cloning method will perform a
file-level copy of everything on the source volume to the target volume. If the target volume already
contains some of the content of the source volume (e.g. from a previous backup), that content will
be efficiently updated. The end result in both cases is an exact, bootable backup of your source
volume."

Hi AM,
   You have got multiple solutions, each one of those are based on some assumptions.
   1. At end - this solution will work if kunnr is the first field in your internal table (Sorted).
   2. Edde's solution will work if all the values for kunnr in the internal table are same.
   If not of this applies then you need write a piece of logic between LOOP and ENDLOOP, but the right solution will depend on the exact nature of your problem. More you explain your problem better are the chances of getting a solution.

Which keyboard layout you were using? German, French ... I suppose your layout is reset to the default: US and you are unable to find the "?" or "/" ...
Please have a look into the keyboard viewer, to see how the layout of your keyboard is actually.

I'm not getting a clear picture at all of what problems you're seeing. If you are seeing online accounts have their passwords changed, those accounts are being hacked. Someone may already have access to some account and is using that access to reset passwords on other accounts. Change the password on EVERY online account you have. Be sure to use a strong password, and don't use the same password on more than one site.
If you are seeing changes to your bookmarks and browser history, your Apple ID may be one of the accounts that has been hacked. After changing the password on your Apple ID, you need to lock it down with two-factor authentication:

Beyond that, we will need additional details about what specific symptoms you're seeing in order to help further. One thing I can say, though, is that these problems are very unlikely to be due to any kind of malware. See my Mac Malware Guide to learn more on that topic.

Can I access Terminal from Single User Mode?

So I have an early 2011 MBP that is having the graphics switiching problem that's been well documented in some other threads recently:

Basically, I cannot boot because it goes to a white screen after the apple logo.
I found these terminal commands that will shut off the discrete graphics card so that only the integrated graphics will run, which would be an ok solution because I mainly use the computer for Recording/Mixing etc with Logic Pro, so I don't really need the more powerful graphics.

But I of course can't access Terminal because I can't get past startup. Is there a way to get to terminal and/or enter these commands while in Single User Mode?

You can move the kext out with these commands:
> mkdir DisabledExtensions
> cd /System/Library/Extensions
> sudo mv ATIRadeonX****.kext ~/DisabledExtensions (replace asterisks with your model's numbers)
> sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
If so there is nothing to take, the commands are physically removing system files. Once those files are moved there is no way for them to go back unless you put them back or you do an install of the OS.
But I am surprised that Safe mode does not work for you. In Safe mode the system only uses the onboard graphics. Are you certain you ere booted into Safe mode? When in Safe mode the words Safe Boot will appear in red letters at the top of the login screen. Did you see that? I ask because it is easy to mistime the Shift key press during boot and not actually get into Safe mode.
Perhaps you problem something different?

What can I do in Safe Mode to fix boot problem?

MY MBP is giving me the "NOT" sign on start-up. This comes after initially displaying the Apple logo.
This MBP had a new logic board installed by Apple just two weeks ago -- and I know I can take it back but I'd like to fix this myself.
Here's what's happening.
BTW -- I put in a different hard drive after getting the MBP back. It has worked fine for several days.
Don't know if these points are relevant, but:
1. First thing I noticed today is that neither of the USB ports would read a flash drive. The port would, however, work mouse and keyboard.
2. The initial non-boot episode took place when I had external hard drives daisy-chained in via Firewire. But, again, this had worked previously, as recent as this morning.

3. The last tasks performed on the MBP were -- for the first time -- to edit video in FCE, make DVD in iDVD, burn IMG file.
4. I have connect this MBP as a target FW drive to another MBP and run "disk verify" and "disk repair" in Disk Utility. It says the drive and permissions are okay.
5. I have booted to a copy of Disk Warrior (latest version, version 4, I believe) and rebuilt directories and files along with verify/repair permissions (everything DW will do). And when re-starting, it still won't boot.
6. When I boot off Snow Leopard DVD and run Disk Utility…"verify disk" says "the volume appears to be ok"….when I "repair disk" it reports "Volume repair complete." and "Updating boot partitions for the volume as required."
7. I'm able to boot in SAFE MODE, but when I try to restart in normal mode, it won't boot (so nothing was automatically fixed)
What can I do in safe mode to address my problem?

WRT54GS V4.0 Laptop Connects But can't access internet unless I am in DMZ mode.

This is recent. I've changed no settings or otherwise done anything to block access, but I've had this problem 2 times now, and I'm beginning to think the router is crapping out on me.
Here's why I know it is not the laptop Wifi that is the problem... When I am connected to the router, I CAN access the router administration pages, but I can't access anything on the internet itself unless the modem is in DMZ mode(I have to put it into DMZ mode and then power cycle the router). If the modem is in DMZ mode, I have no problems.
This only happens with the Wireless connection. On my desktop I have no such problems either way.
I have been using this router since January of this year and have not had any issues until recently when I would occasionally have to reset the laptop's connection to this router, and now this issue.
Note: after it happened the first time, I took my laptop over to the in-laws house and I had no issues for the entire day that I was using the laptop. I come back here to my router and start having issues again.
P.S. I use Ethereal (wireless security monitor) to determine what channels others are using within my range and have set mine to different channels that do not conflict with others, but still no change.

Hi.. What are the DNS serves that are assign to your laptop when you have this issue? Are they public or private? Are you able to ping to any of these DNS server?
You should have public DNS server assign to your laptop. and you should be able to ping to that DNS server to make sure that you have internet connection. If you dont have public dns server, try to ping to 4.2.2.2 (a very common dns server) if you are able to ping to this, then assign this dns to your laptop. you should be online.
Also try to upgrade the firmware on the router.

Do you have a bootable backup?
What operating system are you running? If OS X 10.6 or lower, boot from your original OS X DVD or a retail OS X DVD and then delete files as needed. Your goal should be to get to 10% of your disk capacity free.
If you have OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, you don't have many choices in recovery mode (boot holding the command and r keys down).
If you have a FireWire or Thunderbolt connection, you can try target disk mode with another mac.
If none of those work, perhaps your local Apple store can help with a bootable external drive.

I have 2 different accounts at the same websites. Whenever I go to that website, one of my usernames prefills the UN field and I can't access the other account. I cannot overwrite my pre-filled username. Ideas?

The website rightfully rejects my password. I cannot overwrite my pre-filled user-name because the second I hit enter to logon, the original user-name rewrites itself into it's field. Neither of the user names is being saved by firefox anywhere in the "tools"; Options, security, advanced or privacy menu fields.
I did notice that that website has installed a cookie onto my computer called "_rememberme" which contains the user-name that is plaguing me.
This is a website that I access for very sensitive and important information and I must have both accounts accessible at different times.
