Can't access external HD on WRT610N

I recently bought the WRT610N wireless router and updated the firmware on it to version 1.00.02 B10. I also have a 500GB WD Caviar Green hard drive in a Koutech EEC320 external enclosure. I wanted to be able to hook up my HD in a network server-like configuration through the USB port on the router.
The first time I hooked it up, everything worked mostly fine: I could access the Storage tab on the online router utility, set up shares and stuff. The problem was that I couldn't actually give admin rights to access the shares that I set up on the HD, so I couldn't change files or anything. I would try to set up admin privileges in the share settings, but they would never show up in the share summaries. I even tried changing the name of the 'Default' share that randomly popped up only once, but this caused the group privileges to disappear from it, and the 'Default' share to vanish (although the utility still reserves the name for it, meaning I can't make another Default).
I reset the router to try to get the Default share back, but now every time I try to access the Storage tab in the router utility, I get a blank screen, so I can't recreate any shares on my HD. Plus, every tab I try to access after that end up in a blank screen until I restart my web browser, where everything is fine until I try to access Storage again. This occurs even after resetting the router several times, and even reinstalling the firmware once.
Any ideas on how to fix this so I can access and change the files on my HD through my network?

Ok, while none of those suggestions seemed to have an effect on the problem (makes sense: I could access the main router page just fine; only the Disk section was giving me problems), I did try using a different HD and enclosure which worked perfectly with the router page, with Disk specs and shares showing up and everything. That showed that the router was in normal working order; so I thought that maybe the issue was with my original HD/enclosure. But upon hooking it up by USB to access badly needed files, I noticed the old ".storage_info" file and "public" folder on the drive, which were relics of when I first hooked it up to my router. My theory is that by resetting the router and hooking up the HD (with settings that the router had no recollection of ever creating), it got confused and just semi-crashed whenever I hooked up the HD.
Following that idea, I deleted those files and wiped them over, and hooked up the drive to the router, and sure enough, everything on the Disk page pops up just fine...almost. While I can see the drive just fine now, "Default" hasn't popped back up yet. And any other share I create still can't hold on to any permissions (I expect this to be a firmware issue, since it happened on the other drive too). I suspect this has to do more with my enclosure than the router though; I have four card reader 'drives' on my enclosure that show up ahead of the actual HD (shows up on the router page as Disk 2), so they probably have "Default" somewhere among them. I will probably take my HD out of its enclosure and hook it up by itself to set "Default" on it first before putting it back in the enclosure.
Of course, this all would have been easier if I was able to permanently set permissions on any created shares. Something for Linksys to update on the next version of firmware? Hopefully it is that easy.

  • Accessing external HD on WRT610n from a Mac?

How do you do it? The router/hd doesn't show up anywhere on my mac... Thanks a lot in advance.

To map the External HD of WRT610N follow the setps bellow.
How to map network drive in Mac OS X.
    1. In the Finder, click on the Go menu, select Connect to Server.
    2. Enter the address to where the resource is you wish to map. (i.e. smb://192.168.1.1/foldername)
    3. Enter your network password when prompted.
    4. A new icon should appear on the desktop. That is your mapped network drive.

  • Can portlets access external app login info?

I need to write a portlet that uses the login information entered by users for external applications. The portlet will access the external application, but needs the login parameters that the user has supplied. Is this possible? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction to begin?
    Thanks--

    Corey,
    Two approaches:
    1) You can get the user's login name from the wwctx_api package, as described in the Portal Development Kit (PDK)). You will not be able to retrieve the user's password from the API, for obvious security reasons. The PDK has other useful APIs for both PL/SQL and Java - check it out.
    2) You can set up your external application as a partner application to the Login Server. Please see the Oracle Single Sign-On Application Developer's Guide for more information.

  • Can't access external drive in lightroom 5

My hard drive was full so I copied "my lightroom pictures" file to an external drive.  I then deleted the file from my hard drive.  Now I can't find the external drive in lightroom5.  All the files on the HD are greyed out with a ? on them.  How do I find and access the external drive in lightroom and then how do I save all the future imports to that file?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help and the link.  I tried following the instructions on the item
    Folder panel indicating missing folder.
When I selected find missing folder>external drive>missing folder>choose, the folder disappears from light room and I'm not sure where it's gone.  My external drive still isn't showing up in lightroom.

  • IPhoto won't open, can't access external hard drive

I have recently had to re-install my OSX Tiger software and while troubleshooting I unplugged my external LaCie harddrive (with my iPhoto, iTunes, and iMovie files). Now that I have re-installed my OS, I can't open iPhoto at all, though I can see that the photos are still on the external drive. I dragged my iTunes music folder to my iTunes library and this seemed to do the trick. However, I can't open iPhoto at all, and I am hesitant to start moving iPhoto stuff around b/c I know you should only access photos directly from iPhoto.
    Any suggestions?

I tried holding down the option key and it opened normally. When I say "normally" I mean what it has been doing recently which is opening the iPhoto toolbar, but nothing on the rest of the screen. If I try to open an image by navigating to it through the external drive in finder it opens in preview.
I did an arhive and install and saved my preferences and settings. Do you think I need to also re-install iLife?
    Thanks-

  • Can't access external library after iOS5 update

For years I've kept separate itunes libraries on an external drive without a problem (well, mostly without problems). After updating itunes to work with iOS5 I can no longer access my external library files. All of them are greyed out and I can't choose them. Each collection of library files are located within separate folders ( I have one for music, one for audio books, and one for tv/movies) on the external drive. The data (musice, movies, etc) seem fine.  Has Apple changed where the library files need to be located? or is it another issue. The only thing I could think of was to run repair permissions but that didn't change a thing. I really don't want to lose the organization and playlists for over 100GB of files. Please help!

iPhoto 9.6 only runs on Yosemite.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Can't access external USB Drive

I have a Seagate external USB drive that I'm trying to access. This drive has not been used in awhile, but as far as I know it ok.
When I plug it into my G4, and power it up, it never comes up on the desktop. Instead, I get a message saying "the disk you have inserted is not readable by this computer", and gives me the choice of "initialize", "ignore", or "eject".
This drive has worked in the near past. Why do I now not seem to be able to access the data on it?
I tried a "restart" with the external drive hooked up, but get the same message. I really don't think the drive is bad.
Is there any way I can force the computer to recognize an external drive?
Note: System Profiler sees the drive, but it just never mounts.

Hi Japamac, good to speak with you again. You have helped me in the past.
Sorry for the repeated posts in multiple forums. I've been desperately trying to figure this out, and was looking for maximum views of my problem.
A couple of days ago, I was able to get this drive to mount making me believe that is (was?) formatted for Mac. Nothing that I know of has changed since then except that now the drive will not mount.
Disk Utility sees the drive, but verify disk and all other choices are greyed out. Clicking on "mount disk" also has no affect.
Under disk utility, I clicked on the "info" tab for the external drive, and under "Partition type" it says "WindowsFat32" but I don't know what might account for that if the drive is Mac formatted.
My primary concern is if the data on this disk is still ok. If it can still be accessed on a PC, I can get together with a PC owner this weekend.

  • Can't access external drive in Lion

Finally picked up a new Mac Mini to replce my horrible, ghastly Winodws machine I am using as a media server at the house.  The PC had 4 external 2TB drives connected (it's a big library), THREE of which work just fine.  The other drive gives me a "The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer".  Running 10.7, fully updated.  Tried Repair in disc utility, and got:
Verifying and repairing partition map for “WDC WD20 EADS-11R6B1 Media”
    Checking prerequisites
Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map
Error: Some information was unavailable during an internal lookup.
That's all I got.  The drives were all initialized the same way on the PC, and 3 work fine.  Please help.  Backups are tough here, because the drives are big.

Same situation here... but I think it's not an Apple Issue.
I found a problem really similar to this in 2008 with the DNS-313 and the old Leopard O.S.
Have a look at this thread (in this thread I am "tourniquet"):
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-554245.html
The problem was really similar because with the finder you couldn't navigate but with the terminal (or with muCommander) you had no problem!
As you can see, the problem was that the Finder couldn't manage the "Unix Extensions" option, set to ON in the Samba Server on the DNS-313 (we had the firmware 1.0 then).
D-Link solved the issue later, with a firmware upgrade that disabled this "Unix Extensions" option so... couldn't it be possible that now Lion require this option to be set to ON again?!?!
I will try this evening (10 hours from now, I'm Italian) enabling the unix extensions on the Samba Server of the DNS-313 (gaining an access to the 313 by telnet) and I will let you know if I sort this issue out.
    Greetings

  • Can't access external hard drive

I've been using a LaCie external drive with my iBook G4 for a couple of years. Suddenly, the icon no longer shows up on my desktop even though it's still recognized by the System Profiler. I have not been able to access any files in the external HD. I tried trashing all my preferences and rebooting, but that didn't resolve the problem. I also tried switching the FireWire cable but same result. Any suggestions?

  • Server 2012 - Can't access external website from internal domain with same name. Tried everything.

    Hello All.
I have read loads of forums and tried numerous fixes and configurations, but nothing seems to work and I am extremely frustrated at this point.
I have a client where I setup Server 2012 Standard with Exchange 2013. After reading best practice documentation for DNS naming and reasons not to use ".LOCAL" I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet
Website now has the same name.
When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this
directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
I should also mention, the website is hosted by an ISP and not locally.
I added a "www" Host record in the Forward Lookup Zone, I have added the url and ip address to the Hosts file on a client pc (Windows 7) and even tried setting up Split-Brains DNS. Nothing seems to work.
Running a Tracert takes me to the correct public ip address of the website, but I keep getting this 403 error.
I am so sick and tired of this issue that iI am at the point of backing up the Exchange and re-rolling the entire server with the ".local" DNS domain name. I have a mirror setup in a VMWare environment and simply using "rendom" to rename
the domain seems to cause new issues with Exchange connectivity.
Any pointers and help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Hentie Loots

I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet Website
    now has the same name.
This ends up with a split-DNS stup for internal and external resolution which requires extra administration tasks and attention from the administrators.
When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view
this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
This means that you are able to reach the Website but it is responding with the access denied error message. That should be checked on the middleware level so if this is IIS running then I would recommend asking them in IIS forum: http://forums.iis.net/
If this is a Website that is completely managed by your ISP then I would recommend checking with them.

  • Can't access External Drive over Sharing

Since upgrading to Leopard I am struggling to access the external hard drives connected to my iMac, via sharing from my laptop. For some reason only one of the drives appears which happens to be the drive I use for my Time Machine.
Things were much better with Tiger, you selected the mac you want to access, logged on and selected the volume that was available to you. What the **** have they done to Leopard? Nothing's changed with my externals, just the OS on my two macs.

If you open the Sharing Preferences and select the File Sharing checkbox you will see a list of shared folders. Add your external drive to the list, adjust the users/permissions as you want them and you should be all set.

  • Can't access external itunes library after 10.4.1 update

I just updated to iTunes 10.4.1 and now when I open iTunes with "option" in order to choose the library stored on my external hard disk I am not able to choose it. It appears in the list but is greyed out. I have a HUGE library (83GB). HELP. How do I now access this library?

problem solved. Now when choosing the library you need to choose the folder it's in - not the file itself.
Hey Apple, you really should document these changes!

  • USB Drive accessed externally?

Is it possible to set up my usb drive hanging off my AEBSn as a read-only file server that can be accessed externally? Thanks.

Is it possible to set up my usb drive hanging off
    my
AEBSn as a read-only file server that can be
    accessed
    externally? Thanks.
What do you mean by "accessed externally".
As far as the read-only, you should the able to use
standard OS X commands to set the properties of
"Ownership and Permission", if you have admin
privileges. Right click on the volume, select Get
Info, look at Ownership and permission, open details.
These are the usual read/write/execute of Owner,
Group and Others. The UNIX commands "chown", "chgrp
"and "chmod" will do most of the job (likely with
    sudo prepended) that is needed.
You might double check the function of these commands with an AEBS shared disk. For me the files are all drwxrwxrwx and chown says that "Operation is not supportes".
The drives are formatted using HFS+ and have the permissions configured to be on, but the Airport Extreme Base Station disagrees with this.

  • Access external drive link sys wrt610n via iPad

Hi I was wondering can I access my external drive that is connected to my linksys wrt610n using my iPad if so what are the steps Thanks

Doesn't fix it as you can't map out SMB shared drives with the default SW in the iPad...
One of the advantages of the old NSLU2, you could browse the drives via the embedded webserver, although it had some issues with the mime mapping of some files... still, the shared drive in the 610N and 160NL, would be nice...
One thing you might want to check out for the iPad - filebrowser, it's $3USD on the app store, supposedly it does mount SMB shares, haven't tried it myself (yet)...
