Can't access Filter-Render-Lighting Effects
I have an image in Bridge that exists both as a jpg and camera raw. I can open the jpg version and apply Filter - Render - Lighting Effects. When I try to do the same with the camera raw image, I get as far as Render, and then the Lighting Effects options is gray and not accessible (along with Clouds and Difference Clouds). Why is this? Surely it should be possible to use the Lighting Effects feature with a raw image?

If you are on XP, the 3D features are not supported. There is a minimum power needed for the graphic cards, and you want to make sure that you are using the latest drivers. -

Filter Render Lighting effects has been disabled
Filter>Render>Lighting effects has been disabled. Hoping to get a fix for this. Seems like this started after the last update for Creative Cloud.
This PC is about 6 weeks old. The problem started right after Adobe released their last update for Creative Cloud. It also spawned another issue: background eraser not eraser when dragging across image. Adobe is slow to admit this. However, 2 of their support people (during 2 separate phone support sessions) replicated the issue on their side. That issue is ongoing. I haven't uninstalled/re-installed PS yet, but at this point, that may be my only option.

when using the filter Render > Lighting Effects, is it possible to duplicate a lightsource? My goal would be to have a light source of the exact same dimensions just offset on the canvas? any suggestions or tips much appreciated.

If I'm trying to create a night version of a building with multiple gooseneck lamps, it's difficult to get several lights to all look the same if I can't clone the first one created. -
Render Lighting Effects Filter Crashing PS CS4 on only Mac Pro Towers...8 Cores!!!
I just recently received a brand new Apple 8 core 2.93Ghz Mac Pro tower and also had the previous 3.33Ghz 8 core with the same exact issue. I have 16GB of memory on this tower and my last tower had 16GB as well. Everytime I run the render lighting effects filter on certain files in PS it hangs up and then crashes on me. I know it is not the files because they work on my Macbook Pro's, my iMac, and have tested them on many other computers other than the Mac Pro tower's at the Apple Retail Store out by me. I ran the same files on their new Mac Pro and it crashed just like it did on my two towers, but was very random and not file specific. Some that crashed on mine opened on theirs and vice versa. I have worked with the Adobe top techs troubleshooting this and supposedly eliminated that it could be a preference related issue, permissions related issue, file issue, and have done many things like disabling Open GL, resetting prefs, reinstalling, trying in new user, in Rosetta, in safe mode, in the root user, etc...super thorough testing and it still happens. Both Apple and Adobe feel that it must be something going on with the Mac Pro tower, PS, and possibly how the graphics card interacts and renders the filter. Actually I opened these files in my PS CS3 and it rendering the lighting effects filter, but was unable to run the filter on the entire image and actually left a 1/4 inch of the bottom of the image untouched which was completely bizarre. I have screenshots and console logs too if someone wants to see. I am REALLY curious to hear if anyone else has run into this problem or if they try what happens. http://www.atortphotography.com/psbugs/cs3filterpreviewcorruptHey there Bryan...I actually just talked with a level 2 Apple product specialist today after generating a case with Apple and he brought this to Apple Engineers and apparently since it is third party...meaning Adobe....it first has to be documented with Adobe after they look into the problem and then Adobe apparently will or should work together with Apple to help find a solution to the problem. This problem is very easy to reproduce on any 8 core Mac Pro tower and am hoping more people use the darn render lighting effects filter and get on everyone's case. I also had someone I know who is a Photoshop guru...Jim DiVitale test it on his 8 core in his photo studio and he was able to get his PS CS4 to crash like a bomb too. There is obviously something going on that needs to be looked at hopefully MUCH sooner than later so let's see what comes out of this. It really does suck because this is a filter that I actually do use in my workflow quite often. I just know that before I even attempt to run this filter I make absolutely certain I save everything and then hit that darn OK button. Keep on them and try to bring as much attention to this issue as possible so we can come to a resolution fast! @nthony

Will not allow me to render lighting effects

However, on step 18 it says to go to Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. Using CS6, it won't give it as an option
Any ideas or advice?

Are you running XP? We had to disable the GPU version of the Lighting Effects filter for XP systems due to GPU driver bugs.
If you are running Win7, then you'll want to check that you have the latest GPU driver installed from the video card manufacturer, and that your video card is supported. See this FAQ for more info: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4289204#4289204.

Unable to render lighting effects...
Hello,
I am trying to create a chrome finish to a graphic (I am following the tutorial on this site http://www.eyesondesign.net/pshop/chrometext/chrometext.htm) and get stuck when I get to the part where I am supposed to render a lighting effect (step 6). When I go to Filter>Render, Lighting Effects is greyed out and I am not sure why that is?

PSE 6 Vista 64bit Using Render - Lighting Effects
I have PSE 6 running in Vista 64 and the only problem that I have encountered is using Render - Lighting Effects - Spotlight. It creates Horizontal Lines across the picture. Have tried everything to correct the problem and nothing works. Adobe does not have solution. Is this a common problem?
...could be a bad symptom. I did a bit of Googling and came across a usenet repository of adobe forum posts which includes a thread on this subject. With the new forum setup digging here can lead to dead ends. Sigh...

When applying the lighting effect filter to a photo I get thin horizontal lines across the image. Not the screen just the image. It does not happen with any other filter and does not happen on other machines. Any thoughts? This machine is running VISTA by the way. Yuck.

If you zoom in and they go away, it's probably the video card.
If you zoom in and out and they change, it's probably bad RAM.
If the image looks fine, you save it, then reload it and it's corrupted
- then it's probably the hard disk. -
Render lighting effects doesn't work
When I try render > lighting effects I just get a black screen. The only thing that gives me my orig image is 'ambience' and that gives it uniformly. ie NO OVALS to turn and play with. This worked fine in previous versions and just checked it works in CS 5 which I still have.
I'm Using Photoshop CC v 14.2.1 x 64 with Windows 7 64 (same windows that works and has worked with PS 5)
And my housemate's same PS and same Win 7 works fine.

JudyOften black screen are cause by your Display driver, With CC 14.2.1 on my Windows 7 I see this. Make sure you have the latest display drivers installed. If you do try changing GPU Advance settings to basic mode.

Render lighting effects not working properly
I seem to be having a problem with the 'Render > Lighting Effects' feature. It works, but not the first time I use it. I can go in, set the controls how I'd like them, and click OK to apply. The effects will remain for about 5 to 10 seconds, and then it will revert to the image I had before the lighting effects were applied. If I repeat the process a second time, the effects will remain in place.
I'm using CS6 via Adobe Creative Suite on a Windows 7 operating system. Any ideas?Don't really understand what you are saying.
Without the ability to change the size of the oval the lighting effect will always be the same size. How can I get the buttons to appear? I have just watched several video tutorial on the lighting effects in CS6 and the buttons were showing in all of these and it was demonstrated how to change the size of the effect by using them. -
Trouble with Render Lighting Effects
I am trying to use the Render Lighting Effects filter and I am having some trouble.
I'm using it on a duplicate background layer which looks fine until I apply the layer. Once the layer is applied, a pattern of black rectangles appears on the duplicate layer. I'm not sure what's causing this to happen.
Any thoughts?
