Can't access gmail after ios 8.1.2 installation

I've been living and working in China and using iphone for the past 5 years without any problem accessing any of my gmail accounts. But for the past couple of weeks after I upgraded to iOS to 8.1.2 on my iphone 5S and my ipad air 2, I noticed I don't have access to gmail on either device unless I turn on VPN. I know China does not like Google so it kicks out all of the google's services but iphone and ipad never had issues with access to gmails. This is true with desktops and I have to turn on VPN to get to my mail. I would hate to have VPN on at all times because it drains the battery and it disconnects frequently. Does any one know how to solve this issue?

There is a google parameter to allow email from an unsecure client. Google will send you an email telling you how to make the change, when they reject your email client. It's a hidden parameter.
A lot of folks have gotten hacked recently in the US, so companies are implementing more security.

Updated to ios 8 on iPad 2. Tonight mail app has ben crashing after it trys to open. Repeatedly. Everything was working fine before upgrade and now having issues with mail, slow to open anything in Safari, poor wifi connection, etc. I feel like an idiot for trusting the upgrade, should have known better!! Genius Bar appointments are booked out a week and chat wants to charge me $19 to get with them. I feel like going back to Windows!! Terrible support from Apple!!!

And in your original post, you indicate that you solved the problem. In regards to your final question there, I would say the problem lies with your email provider. They determine what settings are necessary to access and use their email. If the account would not work with SSL on, and works with it turned off, that indicates they do not use SSL. I would be leery about an email provider that does not use some type of security.

I upgraded to iOS 6.1.3 and now I can't access gmail

I upgraded to iOS 6.1.3 and now I can't access gmail- it tells me that the connections to the outgoing server stmp.gmail.com failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Anyone else have that problem? What should I do?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Ask google and try anyway but not work
- Press ThinkVantage, Press F1, Press Fn+F1
- Power off, unplug AC, unplug battery, wait 15 miniute, try all again
- Try to update BIOS again

That is really weird.
When you are in Windows, can you test and see if the F1 key is working? If it is working. Shut down the laptop then boot it back up. At the Thinkpad screen, keep spamming the F1 key and see if you are able to boot into BIOS.

Thanks, but I tried that and was directed to set up a new password which I did. But, it still wouldn't let me go to my existing Gmail. I was asked to set up Gmail account. I also tried accessing my Gmail from Yahoo. Failed. Someone suggested setting up another Gmail address so that when you logged on it would ask you which Gmail to open. This didn't work and only made the problem worse. Google Help is no help. I guess the only way to access Gmail is with my iPad, but it just isn't right!

If it works through the Ethernet port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) it probably has nothing to do with the AEBS. There must be something about the configuration of the computer connecting wirelessly.

It sounds like your phone touchscreen is not consistently working for you after updating to iOS 8. I can see how that would be pretty frustrating. It sounds to me like this could be a software issue or an issue with the screen itself. I would start with the troubleshooting in the following article to help troubleshoot the screen itself:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If that does not resolve the issue, I would next quit all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

I just replaced my 3G iphone with a 4G - everything synched and transferred over. I have google authenticator and cannot access gmail on my phone without disabling the authenticator. When the authenticator is on and I try to get mail on phone, I have to go through putting in my email address and password and get the error "Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect.

How can i access gmail's smtp server using java mail api

i m using java mail api to access gmails pop and smtp service to receive and send mail from ur gmail account. I m able to access gmails pop server using the ssl and port 995 , but i can not use its smtp server to which i m connecting using ssl on 465 port. It requires authentication code.
if anybody can help me in this regard i m thnkful to him/her.

Can't access firefox after using it as primary browser for a few years?

I've been using Firefox for a few years with AOL dial-up access. I just switched to Comcast and after a few days I lost my connection to Firefox. The icons are there but the program won't come up. The first few days I could just use the Firefox icon to access my internet connection and then it just quit. Also was having some problems with Facebook via Firefox (kept getting error messages) just before this happened/ Please help. I can't access all my saved bookended addresses.

There are some malware infections that make it hard to run programs (EXE) files. Hopefully you do not have one of those.
Could you check whether it is a problem with your shortcut by starting Firefox a different way:
Start menu > Run, type or paste the following and then press the Enter key or click Go:

There is no problem with Gmail and iPad; I use it all the time.
Check to make sure that you have entered the correct information in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars for your Gmail account.
