Can't access HD or Finder after new Software update!  Help

I ran the software update on my G5 & now it wont let me access my hard drive or finder. It will lt me run apps from my dock, but thats it. When it loads it only loads the top toolbar by the clock & thats it. The computer is a workstation & hasn't had access to the internet in 8 months.

Hi Blake, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, but it's best to start with these two steps, which may fix it also...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup. Safe Boot is a special way to start Mac OS X 10.2 or later when troubleshooting.

If you can't find your Install Disc, at least try from Safe Boot onward.

    I updated the phone software today through the new software update directly from the phone and it will not restart past the apple screen. I have tried a hard restart, no dice.
    wish I had waited.

    Got it back up and working by putting in recovery mode and restoring through itunes, but lost lots of settings and app. info. I took about 4 efforts to resync after restore, not sure why, certainly not smooth or intuitive. 2 hours of my life I wish I had back.

  • New IPhone is a Brick - after new Software Update

    Last night I synced my new IPhone 3G that I got this past July after lining up for 2 hours. Love it! However, it's been turned into a brick.
    I synced with iTunes 7, using the correct cable with no dock, and it mentioned that there is an update for the iPhone software (2.1). So, duh, I applied it.
    When it was done, the phone was dark, so I started it and got the image of the usb cable and a iTunes image, and iTunes said:
    "iTunes must check the iPhone software update server to identify this device..."
    I clicked "check"
    "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes"
    I clicked "ok" - then clicked "restore".
    "Automatically checking for iTunes and iPhone updates is disabled. Would you like iTunes to check for a new iPhone software update?"
    I clicked "check".
    "Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone "iPhone" to his factory settings?...."
    I clicked "Restore and Update"
    "extracting software....preparing iPhone for restore...."
    "the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (13)."
    TOAST
    I loved this phone, and now it's a brick!

    I had a similiar issue last night when upgrading my just purchased iPhone to 2.01. Itunes downloaded the new update but during the install I received a message stating "the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." I tried this 4 times and got the same results. My iPhone had a dark screen with icons of a cable and itunes on it. Well I called apple support waited for 30 minutes to get to a techinican. After explaining my issue he put me on hold for another 15 minutes then I mysteriously was transfered to AT&T. I was hot to say the least. I WAS able to fix this on my own. I originally was using an imac with iTunes 7.71 on it. I had a PC laptop with iTunes 7.70 (not 7.71). I plugged the iPhone directly to the PC (Not a USB hub). I was successful with the upgrade doing this. I upgraded 2 other iPhones that day and received the error 6 code. But after a second try they went through. I think there is an issue with iTunes 7.71 causing the failures during updates. Try to get your hands on a copy of iTunes pre 7.71. And ensure you are connecting the phone directly to the computer.

    After dowloading the new software I am unable to see my phone when connected to the computer. I'd like to transfer music and pictures but now I can't. Any idea how to get my phone to show back up in iTunes?

    First, click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen then click Software Update...
    If the system is up to date, try reinstalling the AMDS...

    And if you have anti virus software installed, disable that before connecting the iPod to your Mac.

  • Can't access my purchased tv shows since software update

    Since the latest software update I cannot access purchased tv programs.  I have the original Apple TV.  Purchased programs are recognised but when I tell them to "Play" nothing happens. I have checked parental controls and it is off.  Any ideas ?

  • Z10 won't complete setup after device software update, help please.

    Help please, cannot complete phone setup ater performing software update using Blackberry Link.
    Sequence of events;-
    Phone recognised by Blackberry Link.
    Reload device software selected - updated version 10.0.10.90 available.
    Get update - software appears to load correctly then Z10 unplugged.
    Phone reboots, Welcome to Blackberry, English(UK) ticked, swupe left.
    No SIM card available, swipe to WI-Fi.
    Password entered for home network and confirmation screen shows connected.
    Agreement Screen - Country changed to United Kingdom(English),
    at bottom of screen under I agree to the Blackberry SLA....
    the 'I Agree' and 'I Do Not Agree'  buttons can not be selected and
    after a short delay Unable to connect screen appears.
    Pressing 'Settings' goes back to Wi-Fi Networks page with
    confirmation that connection is good and round we go again.
    Having performed software update several times as above and also from
    www.BlackBerry.com/updates by following forum posting at

    Try finding a different open free Wifi hotspot to perform the setup.
    It sounds like the device is never connecting to your WiFi to complete the setup.

  • Can't access my App Store after new update

    After installing the new update 6.0, I can't connect to my App Store. Please help

    If you can't open the App Store, I suggest completely turning off your iOS device (holding the Sleep/Wake button) and turning it back on again. If that doesn't work, back up all your apps, music, movies, photos and any other data to iTunes and attempt a restore of your iOS device. This returns your device into factory state, so everything is erased. But if you back up everything first, it shouldn't be a problem.

    this has never happened before, please someone help, i had a notification to update my ios in which i did never had problems with this nefore until today, a few minutes later it come up with usb cable logo and itunes symbol, i do not have a pc, i went to my mums to use her laptop installed itunes it would not dect anything as the usb ports are a bit knackerd but my phone still went to the apple logo but then back to the itunes symbol, i really dont wany to loose anything on my phone, can any one suggest meon what i can do please help me thank you

    You can restore the device as new from any computer, it doesn't have to be yours. If you have your device backed up via iCloud, then you can restore to that backup. I'm not sure what Vodafone would do, but I can tell you they cannot backup your phone if that is what you are asking, since the phone is in recovery mode. You can just as easily make an appointment at the Apple store to ask them to help if you cannot get access to a computer.

    Restore depends on a source of data from which to restore. BB provides plenty of FREE methods to backup your data and thereby protect that priceless resource. If you did not avail yourself of that, then you have migrated from the latter to the former in this old saying...there are 2 kinds of computing device users -- those who have lost data, and those who will. Backups, like insurance, are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.

    Sync them from your computer.
    Did you fail to make sure they were on your computer before updating?

    What things have you tried so far? Have you tried resetting Safari from the Safari menu option? Have you tried quitting Safari, trashing the prefs file (shown below) and then restarting?

    If neither of those help, one quick test you can do to help narrow down things is to try Safari in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+\] to create a test one (and \[-\] to remove it if needed)

    Yes I have the current updated version of iTunes which is 11.1.5. So yeah when I connect my iPhone directly to the MacBook Pro I have tunes pops up and wants me to restore the phone iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone “Enzo’s iPhone”. Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings. it doesn't give me any option to click to manually back up or restore. It only happens to my iPhone because I'm a Apple Developer and I called Apple just now and they said it works for non developers but for developers the new update isn't for some reasons working like it should Apple Care wasn't able to give me any help regarding this they told me to contact the developing team so I did but it haven't heard back from the team. My friends iPhone 5 works when I plug it into my computer and it shows what should be showing the normal user interface like manually backup or restore ect... but when I load it up this shows ? iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone “Enzo’s iPhone”.   • Running temp higher after new software update

    Since doing the software update (now running osx 10.4.11) my macbook seems to be running hotter than previously. Temp now late 50s, early 60s - and the fan will often come on -even if all that is open in safari.
    is that a high temp or normal? it's probably going at maybe 5 degrees hotter since the update

    I've been monitoring the temperature of a WhiteBook 2.0 for about 10 minutes now and it seems to be idling near the 60/70 degree mark with Safari open so I would say that seems about normal.

    I've never seen that error. Try these steps: Resolve iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support. If not these, try another computer if you have one.
