Can't access HD, please help!!

I know this is more for peripherals (and I posted there too), but I am desperate, and working under a deadline!

I have a 120 GB Western Digital external Hard Drive. I've only had it about two years, and until now haven't had any problems. I connected it to my powerbook through the firewire port, but instead of mounting, I got an error that said "The disk you inserted was not reable by this computer" I have the options of either Initializing, ignoring or eject the disk. When I click Initialize, the HD shows up in Disk Utility, but it's labeled 2.0 TB WDC (not the name I assigned it while it was working), and I can't do anything with it. I need some way to access the files on this disk, I don't care about saving the drive, but I desperately need the files (my whole portfolio is on this disk!) Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Congratulations Sofi, you've been bitten by the infamous FireWire bug. There are posts up and down all the boards on this issue. Essentially you need to "reset" the firewire bus.
What sometimes works is to
Shut Down the machine, disconnect it from the power plus remove the battery.
Wait 15 minutes or so.
Reconnect the battery and power
Restart.
I'm sorry to say that if that doesn't work, the best I can suggest is that you try it again. And again. I have 3 external HD's. Two mount everytime, one does intermittently.

Can't access inbox - Please help

Hi,
Mail froze up and I had to force quit. When I reopened Mail my inbox was empty. In the Mailboxes folder (library/mail) there is an inbox.mbox with a size of 162 MB. I assume this is my inbox but I don't know how to get it to show up again. I tried repairing my permissions, didn't help. Someone trying to help with a similar issue suggested moving the file to the desktop and getting information about packages contents. Here is what mine shows:

I am having the same problem with 10.2.8.
The viewer window will not show;
the application will not quit;
in the Library/Mail folder, the smtp account folders where the collected mail goes think that the host is a mac.com address and creates a new folder for that (It tries to collect mail but I don't have a mac.com account, and can't see anything anyway because there is no window);
the preferences are fine and all permissions have been repaired (includes running Yasu as was suggested elsewhere).
I have read other accounts of the same problems (though with Panther and Tiger) recently, and think Apple should come up with some solutions. These are not one offs.
(I tried reupdating the system software as well, because there is no mail application anywhere, to no avail).
Anyway, if anybody finds a solution, let us know.

settings - general - usuage - music - delete. Then do a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Then sync the music back via iTunes.

If you don't know your ID, you can try to find it as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5625. Then you can reset the password as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617. Of course, you can only do this if it's your ID.

Hi, when you say you have tried everything... I presume you have gone into Settings > Store and logged out and back in with your account details?
You could try purchasing an app via iTunes to see if its an issue with the device or the account you're using.

Is the iPod still singed into the account isn Settings>iTunes and App Stores and SettingsZ>iCloudl? If it is then I would not be concerned.

For the other "problem", go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says Prevent iPod....automatically syncing.

iOS 4.2.1 is the latest version of iOS for the 3G.
Facebook and Whatsapp both require 4.3 or higher.
If you want to use those apps, either use the old version that should be in your iTunes library or upgrade the hardware to a 3GS or newer device.
