Can't access hidden disk in Disk Utilities

I opened up Disk Utilities to do some regular maintenance on my HD, and it finds a disk called "decryptedfile.dmg" with the volume "flash player" underneath. The "flash player" volume is grayed out and not mounted.
The file path for the disk is
Disk Image Path :
/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/T/decryptedFile.dmg
When I put that info into file finder Go to Folder, it says "the folder can't be found" and dialog box comes up which says "The folder “T” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."
Any ideas?

That item is part of an automatic Adobe Flash update and can be left as is or removed as desired. To get at it, delete elements from the path until you're able to navigate to it, select the next folder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself read access to it.

  • Website can't access hard disk

My mpog has 1000s of graphics files that can be stored locally, but it can't access the files, how do I allow the site to access folder on hard disk?
== URL of affected sites ==
http://www.ferion.com but you need an account to get into a game

It sounds like your hard drive has some data corruption issues or disk directory errors.
You should insert your Mac OS X installation disc and restart with the C key held down. Once you get to the Installer's screen, you should be able to run Disk Utility. I believe for Jaguar (10.2), it is under the Installer's Installer menu (in the menu bar).
In Disk Utility, use +Repair Disk+ on your startup drive. Note if any errors are reported, and if so, whether they are repaired.

  • Can't Access USB disk attached to Time Machine

When I try to access a disk attached to my Time machine USB port, I get the message :The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Untitled” can’t be found.   I can access the disk normally in a direct attached mode USB port on my MBP .  Running 10.7.5.  The WEN=B has some discussions on the same problem but no definitive solution.   Everything worked a few weeks ago.  Do not remember changing anything but might have done some software upgrade (from Apple).

I tried the same disks on my other Appe router (Time Machine ), and it works .   Still not on my Airport Extreme - note I said Time Machne in the original post, should have said Airpirt Extreme.

  • I can't access the disk on my time capsule

I have a mocbook pro and a 2tb time capsule that was bought abut a month and a half ago, it's fully updated and so is my macbook but I can't access the hard disk. Is there a way in which I can access it without having to completely like reformat it?

Not sure what you mean by access the hard disk.
Are you asking about Time Machine backups from your Mac to the Time Capsule?
If yes, click the Time Machine clock icon on the dock and wait a few minutes for the Time Machine "Star Wars" interface to fully load.
Use the scale at the right of the window to select the date of a recent backup that you want to see
Then, use the Finder like interface to navigate and find the file(s) that you want to see
Click Restore at the lower right if you want to Restore the file to the present, otherwise click Cancel to close Time Machine and return to the present time.
Is there a way in which I can access it without having to completely like reformat it?
Reformatting the Time Capsule will erase alll fo the data on the drive and wipe it clean.

  • How do i mount my time capsule so i can repair it with disk utilities?

I'm trying to run disk utilities on my airport extrme base station and it won't work. Please help. thanks

I'm trying to run disk utilities on my airport extrme base station and it won't work.
Do mean to say that you have a hard drive attached to the USB port of the AirPort Extreme?
If yes, Disk Utility cannot "see" a network drive. You must connect the drive directly to your Mac first, and then run Disk Utility on the drive.
Your post mentions Time Capsule, but you may mean to say that you are using Time Machine to try to backup to the drive attached to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. Might that be the case?
If so, you should be aware that Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Exreme are not supported by Apple.
This may likely be the reason that you are having difficutlies....although a few users do seem to be able to make this work.

  • My "Owners" is turned off - now I can't access my disk!

    Hello,
I recently installed Leopard (10.5.8). While working in it I had an external USB drive attached. For some reason things went hay-wire in my computer and I was suddenly unable to access any drives on the computer, they were all locked. Their icons had a mini padlock in the bottom left corner.
I tried restarting the computer, only to no longer be able to start up. After starting up from my install disc and repairing permissions, I was only able to get an older version of tiger (10.4.11) to boot the computer. I ended up having to wipe the new leopard install. Everything seems to be working OK now, but I can't mount my external USB drive.
When I use disk first aid it shows the drive is OK, but the ownership is turned off. I'm assuming this is why I can't read the drive? Please help, I have a tremendous amount of important information backed up on that drive.
I hate when these things happen, it's a huge waste of time!

Did you try to use Disk Utility to mount the drive?
I have ownership ignored on my second internal drive and it mounts fine.

  • Can't access physical disk's SMART data

I recently installed Windows Server 2012 on an old box, containing an Intel S3210SH motherboard and Intel Xeon X3320 CPU with 4GB memory and an LSI Megaraid SAS 9240-8i.
I created a Storage Space with a single Pool containing a virtual disk composed of 6 2TB WD drives. I configured the virtual disk as RAID.
Since I created the virtual disk, I cannot get SMART information from the OS. When I issue the following command in Powershell, no temperature is shown.

If I install 3rd party programs, for example, CrystalDiskInfo, none of the 6 disks are recognized, therefore no display.
I experimented by shutting the system down and disconnected a SATA cable from the Megaraid to one of the 6 disks and reconnected a SATA cable to that same disk coming from the motherboard. I then booted into a Windows 2008 R2 disk (dual boot on two separate
disks). When I re-ran CrystalDiskInfo, that single disk was recognized by the OS and reported its temperature.
I am afraid to rely on this system without visibility into SMART data, especially temperature.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks Chuck

    Hi chklap,
Since MS only offers a standardized interface to obtain the data, we cannot state a lot on how to interprete data details in case a drive predicts a failure. We even cannot comment
on how reliable a failure prediction is, as this originate from the device. conditions on which devices do report that depends on the manufacturers custom device internal prediction logic.
For several LSI raid controllers, the driver system writes to the event log if any of its attached devices encounters a SMART failure prediction.
That also applies for the data reported through the vendor specific member of STORAGE_PREDICT_FAILURE
The device must though support prediction failure. If the device does not support failure prediction, IOCTL_STORAGE_PREDICT_FAILURE fails with a status of STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST,
and the data in the output buffer is undefined
If device supported the disk class driver queries the device for failure prediction status and reports the results.

  • Left mouse button not working and can't access hidden dock

This is really weird and just started happening in the past few week or so. My mouse pointer moves and I'm able to select menus and pull down menus with the right button but the left button does not do anything. Also, I have my dock hidden. When I move the mouse pointer towards the bottom of the screen the dock does not appear.
If I reset the Mac Mini everything goes back to normal again until the next time it happens. I have tried swapping to different mouse and the same thing happens. The weird thing is that if I connect to my MacMini from another computer using Remote Desktop (Screen Sharing) the right mouse buttons function properly from the remote Mac. This allows me to properly restart the MacMini. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Aleric,
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions.

  • Both time machine drive and startup disk can't be repaired by disk utilities and needs to be formatted!!??

ok so i accidentally remove the USB while my laptop was backing up to the time machine partition on my external HDD. I plug it in again, and no time machine partition. just the other part (fat 32 partition). so i open disk utilities.. the partition is there but grayed out. so I repair it.. and it says it cant repair it i need to back it up and format it. ok great.. i tried to do that and it said it can't access the disk.. super.
any way.. i don't know  why i decided to check my other drives and see how they're doing.. and it turns out.. my startup disk has problems.. and you guessed it.. it can not be repaired:D so i restart in recovery mode.. did it again.. and?  it can't be repaired.. i need to backup the drive and format it... (like the same problem with the time machine partition) just great! so i restart the laptop.. it safe boots.. I dnno why.. and everything is like it was.. I mean I don't see a problem with my drive.. i can do everything but that "cant repair" thing is scaring me.. what should I do? just leave it? or brace myself for a possible HDD death? I DON'T EVEN HAVE A BACKUP)
    help me i feel vulnerable

As you have indicated, you don’t want to touch the partitions on your existing external drive because it has live files in the FAT32 partition for which there are no copies anywhere else.  That leaves you with two sets of data that are currently not backed up: your FAT32 partition and your system drive.  I suggest you need at least one more external HD for backups.
A “backup” drive should never have live files on it because should that drive fail all the live files on it would be lost.  So you need a second external HD anyway for a proper backup scheme.
I would partition a new disk as you have the current one and then copy all the FAT32 files form the old disk to the new one.  Then you can try repartitioning the old drive.  I would then setup a backup scheme to periodically clone the new FAT32 drive onto the old FAT32 one, using the new disk for your live FAT32 files and dedicating the old disk to backups.  You could also continue using the old disk for Time Machine backups.
You can use Mac cloning software such as Carbon Copy Cloner to maintain the cloned backup copy of your FAT32 data.

  • Can not Access disk drive attached to WRT350N via an FTP client

    Background
I have a WRT350N v1 running the most current firmware. I have a static IP address for the WRT350N and I can ping it over the internet.  I have a disk drive attached to the 350N with a FAT32 partition that has been set up for shared access for a selected group and user. I have worked with cicso/linksys support to verify the linksys350N is set up correctly (?).
    Problem
I can not access the disk drive attached to the WRT350N via an FTP client. I have tried the following FTP Clients: Transmit and Filezilla.  I get a "Connection established, waiting for welcome message...' message on the FTP client. Then it says Connect timeout, Can not connect to server. I CAN connect to other FTP sites so its not the FTP client software.
What I have done so far
    1. deleted the old  and added a new FTP group and user
    2.  unplugged and reconnected my WRT350N and my cable modem
    3. Contacted Cisco/linksys support on-line and they verified my setup and can ping my 350N but thats as far as they are willing to help
I haven' a clue as to what to do next. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Access your router set-up and make sure you have :
    1. Enabled FTP Server and Internet Access under the FTP Server subtab under Storage...
    2. Reduced the MTU size to 1300 under SetUp...
    3. Unchecked Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...
If you have done all this and nothing works, then, you need to upgrade your router's firmware and re-configure your router and then enter the settings...
    Download Firmware 3.23 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
    1. Enable FTP Server and Internet Access under the FTP Server subtab under Storage...
    2. Reduce the MTU size to 1300 under SetUp...3. Uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...See if this works for you...

  • How to completely erase ( no recovery partition remaining) a lion partition with disk utilities on lion install disk?

Where in a  lion install disc made from the installer can I find a bootable file with disk utilities?
I downloaded lion a few hours ago and installed.
I have 4 large hardrives (1.5TB) arranged in 8 partitions to allow me to work on a varied group of projects. I have some projects that need to be worked on with software running under Tiger, some with software that runs under leopard, some with snow leopard, and now Lion. I own multiple copies of software and multiple user pack system install discs.
On a regular basis, I back up chunks of work on projects to external discs, and special backup areas on one of my drives. I don't like using time machine because I am running many operating environments on my mac pro and I don't ever want to be tied to one operating environment for important functionality, and I want to maximize the open space on my hard drives.
Several partitions involve large video files. I am working on them in various versions of final cut, premiere and imovie. Because I have to use the same software versions my different clients are running, I don't want to move all the files " up" to a modern version. It would be professional suicide to stop accommodating my various clients. I say this to try to head off being told to make my clients upgrade. There are too many different clients and they are not going to replace all their equipment.
On these volumes with video files, I often fill them up and copy off what I need to backup before I erase and do a clean install.  I also run VM Fusion and windows XP. I absolutely do not want to have a Recovery HD partition left on the drive when I erase or influencing the other partions using different OS versions on that same drive.
Is there a bootable disc on the installer disk I just made? Can I use the disk utilities to do a low level erase on the lion volume that will remove the recovery partition?
Can I go back to booting from Snow Leopard and erasing the Recovery partition with the drive partition that way? Will the Snow Leopard utility take out the Lion HD recovery partition?
I am used to erasing my drives and rebuilding my machine and I believe it is the right way to use my multiple drives in my workflow. Now that I've got this invisible recovery partition, can you help me remove it and create a bootable disc that includes disk utilities?

I assume the unix pdisk command will show you want is going on.
You may not have a big worry.  There have always been a lot of hidden partitions. Disk Utility under 10.4.11 reports this drive has three (my now report four )  partitions, when pdisk reports that there are 15.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
Press return when done typing sudo pdisk -l
    -l include a lower case L
The sudo command will ask for your administration password. No characters will appear when typing your password. Press return when done typing. sudo stands for super user do.  It's just like root. Be careful.
    mac $ sudo pdisk -l
