Can't access home sharing with current Apple ID info

I can't access Home Sharing with my current Apple ID info. But I can access the discussions forum with my current Apple ID info though. This is very strange. Anyone having this problem? I tried turning on the Home Sharing function in the iTunes Advanced menu, but to no avail because it won't accept my current Apple ID info. I have the ATV2 model.

My ATV 2 can get view movies from Netflix and Youtube without a problem, but when there's a need to use my Apple ID for the Home Sharing function -- from either my Mac or the ATV 2 -- it won't work. It's weird how my Apple ID can access this discussion group without a problem, but can't engage the Home Sharing. I'll see if there's another update available for the ATV 2. Hopefully that might help. Many thanks for trying to help.

Yes, you can copy songs that you ripped from a CD to your Home Sharing computer.
Turn on Home Sharing first on both computers. To do that, go to File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing. Enter your Apple ID and password.
Now go to your computer that you want to copy the songs to and connect to your Home Share. You can do that by clicking on the popover button located at the left top corner right below the play control buttons. Click on it and scroll to the bottom until you see your Home Share and select it.
Go to Music in your Home Share. Select the songs that you want to copy in your Home Share and click Import at the bottom right corner.

No. Home Sharing allows you to share purchases with another device. It does not allow sharing with another Apple ID. From the instructions:
you will need to Turn on Home Sharing on each computer using the same Apple ID.
In any case, that's not what adolf wanted to do. He wanted to transfer apps purchased under an old iTunes Store account to a new one so he could update the apps using the new account, and that cannot be done.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I have the same sort of problem I want to share two music liberys but my wife dos not like some of the music I do and I don't like some of her's but we like to share the music we both like.
At the moment we have home shareing on but when my wife buy's music It downloads her's and my laptop and when I buy music it downloads to my laptop and my wife's.
We want it so we can share music (home sharing) but only my music on my laptop and my wife's music on her laptop.

If you are using the same iTunes library (meaning the exact same iTunes folder), it should work fine.

No home sharing with out Apple have your credit card !!!!!!!!!

This goes for the Apple ID - that need to "setup" (read give more money to Apple) - and wants your credit card info to complete

I found out be someone other than an Apple employee how to get an Apple ID without using a credit card...
You register for the Apple ID by going through your iTunes application instead of going straight to the internet via a browser. There will be a "NONE" icon to click, right next to the credit cards and Pay Pal icons, on the credit card page of the registration. That's how I FINALLY was able to get my Apple ID so I can use Home Sharing for my AppleTV.
Just to show how cheap the reply was to my question above [via Slash_Gordon/the account that won't allow me into the Apps Store, and won't give me a workable Apple ID for Home Sharing]... Apple sent me a cheap reply today, leading me to this useless conversation thread which had no answer to my problem, which now has the answer in this comment>>
Go to the iTunes Store through your iTunes application [not your internet browser] > Click on "App Store" at top of page > Click on "Sign In" > A small window opens > Click on "Create Apple ID" > another page will appear in the iTunes application > Click on "Continue" > Agree to their "Terms and Conditions" by checking the "agree" square > Then click on "Agree" > Fill out all the "Provide Apple ID Details" on the next page > Then click on the "NONE" on the credit card/PayPal page and fill out the rest below... not the credit card info, though... finish up. It seems, Apple is purposely being vague so they can get credit card info. I wish they would prove it isn't true by actually giving me the needed info in my email, instead of leading me to a converstion thread which had no solution to the problem. They should have a Support page giving the solution... of course, they'll say they do have one, and really don't. Well, now you have the solution right here, thanks to someone that gave me the solution when I Googled long enough for it.

I am using a PowerMac G5 2.0GHz, I am currently using an AirPort Extreme card however would have no difficulty in using ethernet connection.
I was wondering if, can I run home sharing from my PowerMac to my ATV3 and iPad? If so, what operating system and iTunes version would be required?

You need to install a full retail version of OS X 10.5 Leopard, then run the software update fearure of OS X to update the OS X version to OS X 10.5.8 and then update iTunes to 10.6.3 to get the Home Sharing feature.
iTunes 10.6.3 is the last version of iTunes to work on PowerPC Macs.
What iPad are you using?
I have an iPad3 and this feature worked the OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.6.3.
Not sure about the latest ATV, though.

Make sure you changed the ID that you are using for iMessage. Open the Messages app and go to Messages>Preferences>Accounts, select your iMessage account on the left, then check the Apple ID to the right. If it's your Mom's, sign out, then sign back in with your ID.
You can only add a phone number if you are using the same Apple ID for iMessage on an iPhone. If you are, the phone number should automatically be added when you sign into the ID.

You are only allowed 5 conncetions (computers or other pieces of equipment) at a time.
If you un-authorized some to get below the 5 limit have you Re-booted the system since doing that?

I use an external hard drive with my iMac and have an iTunes folder there (that sometimes it points to automatically, but sometimes I have to go under advanced and show the iMac to use that iTunes folder because it defaults to the internal iTunes folder on the computer). Should iTunes home sharing work with the external iTunes folder or does it only work with iTunes folders on the computer? I currently have my iTunes folder pointed to the external and can play music from there, but I cannot find a way to access that folder from my MacBook Pro.
I'm wondering if it's a limitation of home sharing or a result of not having the iTunes folder "properly set up" on the iMac to always point to the external.
