Can't access iLife

I recently received a 2nd hand macbook pro. iLife (iMovie, etc) will not let me open or download--it says "accept" in the app store but will not let me get it with my apple id. How do I get iLife from the app store now?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
These apps originally came free with the purchase of this Mac. They are tied to the Apple ID of the original owner. There are two ways that you can get these apps;
1. You need for the original owner to call Apple Care and request that the iLife apps be released from their Apple ID for this specific Mac.
2. You need to use another Mac that does not have the iLife apps and sign into the Mac App Store, buy the apps and then copy them and install them on your second hand Mac.

  • I moved my iTunes content to an external drive a few months ago; now I can't access it with other iWork/iLife applications.  Help please :)

Between my external drive and my internal drive I have 3 Library.xml and Library.itl files. (There was a situation where I had to rebuild for some reason)
Should the "Library" files reside on my internal drive or external drive?  In my ~/users/username/Music/iTunes/ directory?  If so, can I delete all current versions of the Library files and just rebuild by holding down the shift key when starting iTunes and choosing an option?  Which one? Would they end up in the correct directory? Sorry if this seems confusing but everything works fine with my iTunes EXCEPT I can't access iTunes in other iLife/iWork programs.
I should mention I have the same problem with iPhoto (on external drive; not populating in iLife/iWork, but works fine by itself) I know, not the right discussion, just thought I'd mention it.

If the iTunes Library.itl file is also on the external drive, try launching iTunes while holding down the Shift key, and when the dialog window opens that allows you to create a new library or open an existing one, choose to open an existing one, navigate to the folder that contains that library file and select it.
If that works, note for the future that if you launch iTunes when that external drive isn't mounted, iTunes will default back to the normal location on the internal drive and you'll have to repeat the Shift-launch process.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't access my iphoto files!

So I'm not sure if I'm totally ignorant or what...
I'm on my MacBook Pro and I'm in an email and want to attach a photo from iphoto. I go to "Pictures" on the left hand side of my finder and my iphoto library is greyed out and I can't click on it. I made sure I was able to access it with "read and write" but it's not working!
I tried to "drag" the photo from iphoto to my gmail and the whole page just becomes the picture.
So strange...the only way I can find the photo is if I spotlight search for the file name and attach it like that. Any other suggestions??
    Thanks

With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Can't access jpeg files through finder after import to iPhoto '11

Am I missing something here? I recently imported my entire library from a backup source to iPhoto '11 on a new computer. I used to be able to browse the folders in the iPhoto library in a finder window. Now when I try to open the iPhoto library, the application itself launches.

Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Accessing files via the Finder has never been supported on any version of iPhoto.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.

Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage/Outlook, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    3. *Show File*: File -> Reveal In Finder on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
All of the above are a: Faster and b: Safer than rooting around in the old Library folders.

  • Can't access iPhoto 09 library from outside iPhoto

Since upgrading to iLife 09 I can't access my iPhoto library from anywhere BUT iPhoto. I use Photoshop CS2 and open my photos directly from that application. But now when the directory actually appears, it is greyed-out and inaccessible.

    Yes you can do this
In Finder you can right click the iPhoto library and choose 'show package contents'.

I changed the country from US to Mexico in my App Store Account. Now I can´t reinstall iLife apps onto my Macbook. When I try to download them, a message says that they are available in my purchased apps, but they don't appear under that menu. Please help

The issue is that you purchased the apps in the US app store, not in the Mexican App Store.
If you set your App Store back to US, then you should be able to access your purchases from teh US Store.

  • Can not access my Time machine HD after CLEAN install Mountain Lion

    Hi Everyone!
Thank you in advance for your interest and help, I really appreciate it.
I recently did a clean Install of Mountain Lion and already did all the updates that appeared. However, before doing these clean install, I did a back up with Time Machine on my external Hard drive. Now I can't access to it, doesn't even appear on my sidebar when I connect it. On the other hand it does appear as connected when I open Disk Utility, but I can not access to it. There I have all my 5 years of University works and classes, photos, and music. This Hard drive is only dedicated for my Mac Backups and nothing more.
I guess that if I install again Snow Leopard, it will work, but I have to re install everything as my Mac is a Mid or Late 2007 15-inch Macbook pro and it came with the OS before the snow leopard 10.5 or something like that.
What can I or should I do to access my Hard Drive again?
    Best Regards
    Edd

    Hi Mende,
Sorry for my late reply but I want to thank you for your help.
I followed your instructions and now I can access the drive thank you a lot for this. However, now I don't want to restore everything from my last back-up just some files, How can I do this? Also I want to restore My iLife, but the copy I have from the CD that came with my mac doesn't allow to install it, what can I do.
Take good care, and happy holidays.

  • Can't install iLife 11 (Old Toad)

This is a new topic specially opened for Old Toad.
My english was not as good as I thought when I did open a discussion saying that my legal copy of iLife gave me that error message. I'm not stealing anyone by downloading another .dmg of iLife and trying to install it (getting error as well). I purchased my copy of iLife one day, and I can have so many copies of it as I please, can't I? All the software I have installed in my genuine OS X Snow Leopard is NOT from pirate sites. Let's keep this perfectly clear, so we can follow this discussion correctly. All the purpose was trying another .dmg, the one in the DVD might be damaged, but was not the case, fortunately.
Next time, please, ask before closing a topic of an user. Repeat: my LEGAL copy of iLife, ie, my DVD on Install Software gives me the error message I linked in the previous topic. Can we follow this discussion, please?
    Thank you/Gracias, Carlos.

That software install disk should be able to install the orignal version of iPhoto that came preinstalled with your MPB.  However if your library has been upgraded to iPhoto 9 (11) you will have to find a way to install iPhoto 9 from the iLIfe disk.
However, you could downgrade your library to the version that came with your MPB using the directions in this iPhoto Library Manager webpage: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto
If you can get access to another Mac try your iLife 11 disk on it to see if it's a disk issue or an issure with your MBP.  If it's a problem with your MBP and since we've tried most fixes I know of you may have to reinstall your system after backing up your HD first.
If you find that the iLife 11 disk is bad they you will need to get it replaced from where you purchased it originally.

  • How can I access my iCloud account on the web from my phone

how can I access my iCloud account on the web from my phone
    iPhone 5 iOS 8.3
I have iCloud turned on, location services on, find my phone works but when I try to access iCloud via Safari on the phone it takes me to a page Apple.com,
    iCloud then three options
set up iCloud on my phone (i have)
Install Find my phone, it is installed and it works from my MBP
or install find my friends, I don't need that I have no friends.
my calendars and contacts and bookmarks and all are all sync'd and working on the phone, but i thought if I typed in iCloud.com on the phone in Safari I would go to my iCloud web page that looks like this on my Mac.
Is that NOT how iCloud should/would look on my phone via Safari?
This is maybe a dumb question after 3+ year of iPhone'ing

I've been playing with a Galaxy here at work and here's what I've found so far - please feel free to jump in and suggest alternative methods to configure or access the various icloud components.
So the original Q: Can you access your icloud account on Android?
Not entirely: the website can't be used from an android browser (not properly - even with Dolphin HD and posing as different browsers it won't load correctly.  So Find my iphone is out, so is the address book or looking at your e-mail or calendar just in a browser window
I was able to setup my e-mail using the IMAP settings published here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
Be sure to setup the account manually - and note if you have trouble using SSL try TLS (that worked for me)
Address book is a no go so you'll have to use iTunes to sync all your contacts over to Gmail - if you still have an iPad it means managing contacts in two places though .  Same goes for your calendar - transfer it to Gmail and forget about iCloud's calendar.  Nice instructions here: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-20064060-285/how-to-switch-from-iphone-to-an droid/
iWork is an Apple proprietary bit so don't expect much there.
So in my case, if I'm really going to make the switch to a Galaxy from my iPhone it really means I'm going to have to switch to using google as the backend.  The timing to swap over to a galaxy/android phone is not the greatest - given that I'd have to give up my Apple addiction (syncing photos and itunes and losing access to my device tracking).  Plus I still have an iPad and a mac and like living in the Apple ecosystem.  I think I'll wait and see what the new iPhone looks like before I commit

There is no solution.  You have to provide the ID and password.  There is no way around it.  If the person you bought it from can't provide it, return it and get your money back.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.
