Can't access menus or the apple menu, INCLUDING  start up/shut down

my apple logo menu shows nothing, nor does much of my program menus. The other menus seem to be working, and i know if i can find a pllst that is causing this i could possibly fix the problem, but i cant even restart my computer or manually do it because there is no option. What am i to do?

i wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary. This has just happend. I first noticed it with AIM about 2 weeks ago, but figured it was an AIM bug and that it would be fixed. I then noticed it for safari and more recently for finder, which means i cannot restart or shut down my computer now.
I installed the latest version of flash, but that was after the first incident.
I didnt change any names neither, in fact i cleaned out some old pictures and files from the incomplete folder and temporary internet files etc.
i have 512 mb of memory, i have around 8.22 free now , i am running a few programs as we speak.
Not sure about RAM.

My mini ipod appears off and not respond to any commands when pressed the buttons to reset, apple logo appeared and then the apple support site and it shuts down. already tried all the steps, but none worked, and when I plug it into my computer it does not appear in the iTunes bar. what do I do?

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • System Preferences not working from the Apple Menu

    Howyeh!
So I made the mistake (for me) of upgrading to Leopard. Discovered that my version of Quark doesn't work at all with it, so had to downgrade back to Tiger. Having done so, and run the combined update, my System Preferences don't work any more, when I try to access them via the Apple menu. They work fine if I go into the Applications folder and manually open them, just not the Apple menu (or if I option click on the desktop background.)
I've verified/repaired permissions in disk utility, as well run Techtool Pro in an effort to get it working, and deleted the System Preference plists in my users/library/preferences folder.
Finally, I located the cause of this (I think). All the prefPane files located in the system/library/prefpanes folder are set to open with System Preferences 5.0, which I believe is a Leopard component, which has a completely different icon than good ol' 3.5. I notice too that when I try to run System Preferences from the Apple menu, this odd icon version appears in the "recent items" list.
Okay - so the upshot seems to be that the version of system preferences being referenced by the system is the newer leopard version. Only thing I could think of doing was zapping the PRAM, but that didn't do the trick. So how can I revert back to the old version being used?

Ooop, just ignore me. Deleted the System Preferences in the Previous System folder, and everything's hunky dory (for now!)

Open the Users folder on the internal drive, drag all of the other home folders to the desktop, and then move the files inside to the desired locations.

I cannot log onto the App Store, the page appears when I call it from the dock or the Apple menu and I can call the log-in box from the menu bar, but on signing in the spinning icon just keeps spinning,(not the beachball).  Using 10.6.7 and up-to-date on all software. Any suggestions?

Could be a third party app preventing you from being able to login.
Mac App Store: Sign in sheet does not appear, or does not accept typed text
If it's not a third party issue, follow the instructions here.
Quit the MAS if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder.
Move the com.apple.appstore and the com.apple.storeagent files from the Caches folder to the Trash
From the same Library folder open the Preferences folder.
Move these files Preferences folder to the Trash: com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist
Same Library folder open the Cookies folder. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch the MAS.

  • TS3824 How can we install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?

How can I install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update 2.0, if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?  My computer has 5 vertical purple lines against white screen at startup before the Apple logo appears and the spinning gear...then everything disappears and the screen hangs on the white screen.  I have tried unplugging and removing all my peripherals and the COMMAND, OPTION, P & R set of keys and still nothing.  I have tried COMMAND C to start up from cd and it only tells me to turn off the computer and turn it back on.  I found information on Apple's Support pages regarding the iMac Graphics Firmware Update but I am unable to download and install if I can't get to the Apple menu.  Can anyone help?

You may have hardware problem, I think a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP is in order.

RE: iPad Air and Apple Wireless Keyboard
HI,  I have an iPad Air paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard.  Can I access emoji from the wireless keyboard?
Thanks for any help on this subject!

Eureka!   I kept searching and found the solution.   So, if anyone wants to know here is the solution:  press fn and the up arrow on F Keys (top) row (it's the one all way to the right.  The iPad keyboard will then pop up on the iPad and from there you can access the emoji keyboard.

That is why I said to restore via iTunes, did you check the link?
This will put it back to factory settings and you can set it up with the new ID once you reconnect with your HDTV. This is not done via ethernet, as per the link you need to connect to the computer via micro usb. You cannot bypass home sharing.
FYI: An Apple ID cannot be deleted so the old one would still exist (even if you no longer use the email account it is associated with).

my apple tv devices and other apple devices can access my library but using my library, i cant access any of the apple tv devices through airplay

    Home sharing isn't working either
Which is why you can not use the remote app.  Did you turn on home sharing on your computer and on ATV?
eve though they have the same Apple ID.
Did you enter the ApplieID in the home sharing login though?  Or just in for the iTunes store, or iCloud, or photo sharing, or something else?
Home sharing isn't working either, I can't play or transmit any video from my iPad to the Apple TV because it doesn't recognize it
That would be AirPlay, not homesharing.  THey are not related.  Did you enable air play on all the devices?
Have you run the network test tools on ATV?  Can ATV access the iTunes store, Netflix, etc?

    Hello, Msk5speed.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of your Apple TV and router can resolve this issue.  If those steps do not resolve the issue, take a look at the attached two sections below.
    Check the connections and inputs
Make sure the cables between your Apple TV and TV are connected properly.
Securely connect the power cords for your Apple TV and TV to a working power source.
Turn on your TV and switch it to the correct input.
    Restart your Apple TV.

  • Access Recent Items aliases in the Apple menu?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how I can individually delete some of the aliases in the Recent Items folder on the Apple menu? Where do the folder or files live?

Yeah, I'm thinking "OS 9" but shouldn't Apple include a way to easily delete these items? I mean, how hard could it be?
Thanks for the advice though. I found the file, used TextEdit, but couldn't find what I needed, or at least, what I thought would be simple.

i did follow "From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences. Choose View > Time Machine. Set Time Machine to On if it is off "
. .....but i couldn't find the time capsule from airport utility..... why?

Are you using a new 802.11ac Time Capsule - the "tall" one - and are you still using Mac OS X 10.6.8?
You need OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or later, or an iOS device, to configure an 802.11ac Time Capsule:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1645/en_US/airport_time_capsule_802 11ac_setup.pdf

  • My child was on my mac and now I can't find my dock.  I went to the apple menue then to system prefrences but "dock" isn't an option for me to use.  Please help!

My child was on my computer and now my dock doesn't display on my screen.  I checked the resources for help and it hasn't worked for me.  It says to go to the apple menu, and click on the dock display.  However, the  "dock" isn't an option on my dropdown list.  Please help!

What options are selected and deselected if you go to System Preferences and Dock?
    1. click the apple logo
    2. click System Preferences
    3. click Dock
    What's there?
It's possible your child just messed around with these settings and moved the dock to the left or right and triggered auto-hide and so forth
