There is a chance the spreadsheets were made with a Numbers or AppleWorks version so old that it's not compatible anymore with the latest Numbers version (yes this can happen)

  • After replacing computer, can't see old mail messages

My father's Mac died. I bought a new one for myself and gave my father my old computer. At the Apple store, they were able to copy his mail from his dead computer to my new one. I copied the mail folder to his Mail folder, but Mail does not recognize the old messages. It only sees the messages that were left on his mail server since his computer died. • Time Machine can't access sparsebundle Error 13 after Upgrade

    Hey Community!
I just downloaded and upgraded to Mountain Lion - everything went well!
But when I tried to to a Time Machine Backup it says - can't access sparsebundle, Error 13.
Using a MyBook Live 2TB NAS on my Gigabit Router - it worked so far with Snow Leopard pretty well!!
    What can I do?
    What's wrong?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards from Austria,
    David

I was having the same problem with a WD My Book Live External hard drive. I google searched it for a few hours and finally found someone who had the answer posted. I laughed at how simple it was! That time my problem was a error-1 I guess. However I ended up doing a factory restore of the external hard drive for specific reason other than that. That was a few days ago and I had forgotten about that error message and how I fixed it, so now I've been google searching again for days trying to find that post. I tried what someone one else posted about creating new disk image but that only gave me error-13, the same as you have. So! more hours of google searching trying to find the post again. However! I fixed it by accident and now the drive is backing up. Then I remembered that's exactly what that post told someone else to do. This is what worked for me and that other person on that post that I read a few weeks back. Whe you select your External drive in time machine, don't sign in as a registered user, sign in as a guest! That's all I did and no more error-1 or error-13. The drive just strated backing up right after that! Before it took awhile searching for the back up drive before it gave me those error messages and now it's backing just fine again, lol. I read pelople giving some long complex (though step by step) solutions, but for a non techie like myself, just reading them gave me a headache, lol. I figured I should should at least try and see if that helps someone else becasue it was real frustrating and I'm guessing anyone would feel the same when trying to fix this thing. Anyways! try that and I hope it helps. Good Luck!

  • Lost saved mail messages after upgrading to OSX Mavericks

I rencently noticed that after upgrading to OSX Mavericks I have lost all of my saved messages from before that date, messages mainly from my gmail account that is syncing with Mail. I have also noticed that the same messages are now missing when I log into Gmail and look for them there.

    HI,
I also use IMAP and the "folders" I create in the Mail App are actually created on the IMAP server.
My Mail side bar looks like this:-
Between the INboxes and the Google folders are the Smart Mailboxes (Today)  and the On My Mac line which is current closed/hidden.
I have a bunch more folder that are On My Mac in here.
I went the Google Mail Web page the other day and was informed that there was a New Inbox.
I also received an email about it.
It appeared to happen just as I logged in to Google.
I not sure it this was coincidence or the trigger.

Can't access downloaded apps on iPod touch 4g after updating to ios 5

Sometimes it can also help to download a free app from the Store onto your ipod.

  • Can I access my Mail emails after re-installing Snow Leopard?

I need to reinstall S Leopard on my MacBook Pro. I have used TM to back up, and I want to know if, when I have re-installed S Leopard, I will be able to access all I my old emails in Mail. Currently I can do that just by having the Mail inbox window open when I Enter Time Machine. Also, what about iPhoto images, iTunes tracks?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. Reinstalling because since installing SL I'm getting a lot of strange behaviour! Photoshop keeps crashing, also Mail, and Airport has become flakey too. Have installed an extra 2GB RAM to 4GB in case it was due to lack of memory, but no change ...
Have run DiskWarrior too - no major errors showing up, so figured re-install is the next step.

  • Can't access old user folders after archive and install

I had a disc failure on my old iBook G4 (no wonder) and after repairing the disc and archiving and reinstalling Tiger 10.4.11, I can't open any of my old user folders. Mostly I need the iTunes library in one user folder. How do I get at it? Will setting it up as a target disc give me access to that music?

These are the likely files that hold Network settings...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist
    Reboot after replacing.

  • Missing mail messages after upgrading

This morning my iMac asked me to upgrade to the latest Mail version and convert my existing messages.  After doing so, I seem to be missing emails from present day back to May 2011.  I am running OS 10.6.8, Mail V4.6 (1085). Ideas?

Will it possible to recover the messges?
Yes, but I'm not sure what your problem really is, though.
First of all, just restoring the HOME/Library/Mail folder is not enough, you should have restored the HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file as well. This file is where most preferences and all account settings are stored.
As to the "Message has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." error message, this is one of the many bogus error messages in Mail that have absolutely nothing to do with what the issue really is. The real problem isn't related to not being "online" at all, but rather with "overstuffed" mailbox issues, or with failed conversion from Mail 1.x, or both.
You shouldn't have experienced this problem as a consequence of just moving from one machine to another with the same version of Mac OS X, however, which is what makes me believe you didn't restore your mail data properly. If you haven't received and/or sent mail using the new machine yet, or if what you've sent/received is still on the server, I'd suggest trying to properly copy again both the preferences file and the Mail folder to the new machine. Do this while logged in as the user that's going to use those files in the new machine to avoid possible permissions issues.

  • Can't access any Leopard backups after upgrading to Snow Leopard

The first time I tried to backup under Snow Leopard, it said I didn't have enough space on the hard drive. I tried to enter the time machine, but it wouldn't allow me to access any of the backups that I had made under Leopard. I ended up just erasing the drive and starting over, but I'm not happy about it. I may not want the old backups on my MBP, but I might someday want them on my G5, and now they're gone. Boo Apple!

This is your fault, not Apple's. If you had checked your Computer Name in Sharing preferences chances are it was not the same as that used for your previous backups. Changing the Computer Name would let you continue backing up to the same backup set and accessing the data on the backup. Or you could have used Migration Assistant to migrate certain items from any backup on a TM backup drive.
At the top of this forum are three User Contributed Tips on the use and care of Time Machine. In addition are these articles:
    Mac 101- Using Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard;
    Mac OS X 10.5 Help- Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight;
Mac OS X 10.5 Help- Restoring files backed up with Time Machine.
So it's hardly Apple's fault that you did not access all the available information that would have enabled you to migrate your files.

  • Can't access OS 9 files after upgrading to Panther

I upgraded my G3 CRT to Panther and now I can't find any of my OS 9 files.
    imac G3   Mac OS X (10.3.1)

If you did a standard installation, your previous
files should be exactly where they were before.
There is an option in the Mac OS X installer to do
an "erase and install." You have to go to a
separate screen to select that option, so it would
be difficult to select it by mistake, but if you did
use that option, the installer erases the hard drive
before installing Mac OS X. In that case, all of
your previous files will be gone.
Thanks for the info. I found my files but I have to restart from OS 9, Classic doesn't work from OS X for some reason. Any suggestions?

  • Can't access scanner in CS5 after upgrade

I recently upgraded to CS5, and now my scanner doesn't show up in the "Import" menu.
I copied the TWAIN plug-in from the CS4 Plugins folder, but it still doesn't show up.
    Any ideas?

You need to download the TWAIN plugin for CS5.     http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4687
Also, TWAIN may or may not work in 64 bit (since few to no 64 bit drivers exist), you will probably have to switch to 32 bit.

  • Purging Old Mail Messages

I'm currently playing around with purging old mail messages after a certain time period. For test I've set inbox and sent at 7 days and trash at 1 day.
    I've read: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/6n6j4267s?a=view
Quite useful. I've set a global purge with the following:
    Rule1.regexp: 1
    Rule1.folderpattern: user/.*/trash
    Rule1.messagedays: 1
    Rule2:regexp: 1
    Rule2.folderpattern: user/.*/inbox
    Rule2.messagedays: 7
    Rule3.regexp: 1
    Rule3.folderpattern: user/.*/sent
    Rule3.messagedays: 7
    Rule4.regexp: 1
    Rule4.folderpattern: user/.*/Trash
    Rule4.messagedays: 1
    Rule5:regexp: 1
    Rule5.folderpattern: user/.*/Inbox
    Rule5.messagedays: 7
    Rule6.regexp: 1
    Rule6.folderpattern: user/.*/Sent
    Rule6.messagedays: 7
    Rule7.regexp: 1
    Rule7.folderpattern: user/.*/Deleted Items
    Rule7.messagedays: 1
It seems to purge the trash ok but no action on the inbox or sent yet. Any ideas?
    My version is: libimta.so 6.2-7.05 (built 12:18:44, Sep 5 2006)
    Thanks

I'd created about three weeks of a messages on this server prior to turning on the purge so they should be all legitimate messages and dates.
    I ran a /imexpire -n -d -v 3
a snippet of the output. Seems to have deleted messages from the Sent and Trash but for some reason Inbox is left untouched. Sent has the exact same messagedays of 7 too.

  • How can I access old Entourage emails to import them into Mac Mail after upgrading to OS Lion?il

How can I access old Entourage emails to import them into Mac Mail after upgrading to OS Lion? I don't really want to go back to Snow Leopard in order to access the old Microsoft Applications, but they simply aren't supported in Lion.

In Mail you can select Import Mailboxes... from the File menu. There is an import from Entourage feature.

After Mac OS X 10.6.3 upgrade can't access Yahoo mail and repeatedly get message ""Sorry, we are over capacity. Please wait a moment and try again." Help, please.

Did you run all the software updates after the 10.6.3 update, especially this one which will bring you up to 10.6.8.
Mac OSX 10.6.8 V1.1 Combo update
Run software update, starting with the one above.
Then call your provider and ask them what is going on. They have probably changed POP to IMAP, 10.6.8 supports IMAP
