Can't access other computer on Windows 8.1 based VPN

Hi,
I have a computer in my office, and my laptop at home.
I want to be able to access resources at my office when I'm at home.
Both computers are Windows 8.1 based, and in both I'm the Admin.
I've successfully created a VPN connection. I've configured my office router to allow PPTP 1793 port connections.
I've configured the Office computer as the VPN server, and successfully connected to it when I was at home.
I was expecting to see the office computer as part of the network , but unfortunately I can't get to see that computer when I'm at home.
I was searching the web for solution. I've found a possible solution, which didn't help me - to set Network to be Private, in Windows settings via registry or network policy, but that didn't help.
How can I access my office computer, when I am at home?

You may also need to verify the network settings of your VPN connection. Check the IP address assigned to your VPN adapter and to the remote computer (VPN server). Verify that you can access the remote computer by IP address (\\x.x.x.x) in File Explorer.
VPN connections often use a separate subnet and IP range and thus computers detected across this adapter are not seen by network discovery. You will need to enter the computer name (if DNS is working over the VPN link) or IP address to access the remote
computer.
Also consider that when a VPN connection is established the client is effectively joining the server network, not the other way around.

Sorry I cannot follow why you would even use the PC to control the Time Capsule. Apple have not kept the Windows version of the utility up to date.. so they keep making it harder and harder to run windows with apple routers.

I can't access folder share in WIndows Server 2012 R2 from windows 8.1

i have a strange case:
I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine with a shared folder. Accessing this folder using a Win7, Win8,
Win 2008 R2 machine using \\servername works fine but form windows 8.1 or windows
2012 r2 i can't so any one can help me.

that host in the Windows Server 2012 R2?
If you logon the Windows 8.1 (or server 2012 r2) with administrator account, will encounter the same issue?
Meanwhile, please access the share folder via \\server’s IP address\share folder. Then please check if this issue still persists.

Do you have a bootable backup?
What operating system are you running? If OS X 10.6 or lower, boot from your original OS X DVD or a retail OS X DVD and then delete files as needed. Your goal should be to get to 10% of your disk capacity free.
If you have OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, you don't have many choices in recovery mode (boot holding the command and r keys down).
If you have a FireWire or Thunderbolt connection, you can try target disk mode with another mac.
If none of those work, perhaps your local Apple store can help with a bootable external drive.

Repaired Permission & restarted your computer?
Run "Repair Disk" from your install DVD?

I simply reinstalled fire fox 3.6.19 and I can login no problem. Seems like it could be a compatability problem between 5.0 and windows 7. One other thing that happened often was lag while playing mmorpg games. Not sure if this fixed it or not, but I can update this thread when i find out.

Can't access other accounts

Suddenly I can't access other accounts in my Mac, everything works fine but when I choose to log into other user account it just remains in the progress bar and never logs in, even if I create a new user account it does not let me in (password or not). The information is intact but I just can log into the administrator account (no changes has been done in the accounts administration since they where created, everything happens in a sudden)

With 10.3.9 you would go System Preferences-> Accounts -> (click on an Account)-> Limitations, then either No Limits or Some Limits depending how they were originally set up.
You can adjust the criteria at this point.
You may want to try deleting an account that is least used and re-adding a different one in its place. This will give you an account to experiment with to see if it behaves as the other accounts you're having trouble with.
You'll likely be able to solve the problem by seeing what is different between this new account and your old ones.

Can't access Network share from Windows 8 computer

I have a clean install of Windows 8 x64 running in a workgroup environment. I can access multiple computer/NAS shares except one share off a partifular NAS. This share is accessible from other computers and the other shares on the NAS are accessible from
this Windows 8 computer. I have cheked the credentials and they are fine, added them under the credential manager, tried to map a drive and selected use other credentials etc but it continually says "Windows cannot access \\ComputerName\ShareName"
you do not have permission. I have permission and nothing is wrong with the permissions or the server. This is driving me crazy if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried:
1. Mapping drive with ip address e.g. \\ip address\sharename
2. disabled ipv6, made sure netbios enabled, made sure client for ms networks enabled.
3. Setup a new account on server, doesn't work either.
4. All sharing options enabled. I even modified the permissions on the share for "everyone" full access and it still didn't work.
Has to be something with this windows 8 machine.

Firefox won't let me access other open program windows unless it is minimized, is there a way to fix this?

Since installing Firefox 8.0 last week, I have realized that unless the Firefox window is minimized I can't access any other windows that I have open (this includes other Firefox windows). Is there a way to change or fix this?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.<br />

I can't access my computer

I have an iMac OS 9 which I purchased in 2001. Just recently I added another user and selected type in name in order to access my computer. Now when I type in my screen name or other user or guest the dialog box shivers and nothing happens. I have tried restarting and shutting down but nothing works. I have even tried my restore disc but it will not work since the computer does not give me access. I am desperate since I am writing a book which I have been working on for several years and I cannot access any of the material. In fact, there is nothing to click on at the top of the screen. I am dead in the water! Can anyone please help?

I would try to access the iMac with another computer. I connect my laptop to the iMac with a firewire cord and then restart the iMac while holding down the "T" key until I see the yellow firewire symbol bouncing around the screen. This starts up the iMac in "Target Disk" mode.
You will then be able to access the iMac with the laptop (or other computer) and copy your book and other important files to the laptop or another device such as an external hard drive.
Then you would be able to erase the iMac and reinstall OS 9 along with your recovered files.
The book is recoverable. Hopefully someone else will come up with a solution that doesn't require you to find another computer and firewire cord. Good Luck!

Can't access home computer from a distance

I have an iMac upstairs and a MacbookAir to take on trips. They are part of a wireless home network. Internet service provided through Comcast cable through modem and then Netgear router to the network.
I purchasd the Remote Desktop app in order to use the laptop on trips to access the iMac at home but can't figure out how to do it - the manual didn't help me.
I can't imagine it can't be done but how?

If you want to go the ARD route. You'll need to configure your firewall to forward spefific ports of TCP and UDP traffic to your iMac. And your router will need to have a method of consitently forwarding said traffic to the computer; this ushally is done by ether assiging ether DHCP ID or a Static IP to the iMac.
If you contact Netgear support, they might be able to walk you through setitng the port forwarding. You would want to forward TCP and UDP for ports 3283 and 5900. As well as TCP for port 22.
Ontop of that, if your ISP give you a DHCP connection. You would probable want to get subcribe to a service like DYdns so you can consitently reach your computer. (20 Dollars a year)
To find out if your connection is DHCP or static IP, you can call your cable provider.
Just FYI, there is another option. You could get logmein.com. For free, you can connect to one computer remotely over the internet. Ushally it just works; without needint to configure your firewall/router or DYdns.
Subposible the 'pro' vertion; witch you would have to pay for, supports sound. (ard dose not)
Ether way you would probable want to configure your computer to stay always on. So you can reach it over the internet when you want to connect. (apple menu, system prefrences, energy saver, computer sleeps never, display sleep after x time. )

Safari Mac can't access web site that Windows can

None of my Macs can access the site http://cards.123greetings.com . I get Can't Find Server messages in both Safari and Firefox. (Clearing caches doesn't help)
cards.123greetings.com is part of a large free card site that did a major upgrade in October. It still renders correctly on a PC running Windows XP Home which runs on the same network as the Macs, so it's not an isp problem.
Since both Macs (G4 iBook running 10.3, MacBook running 10.4) have the same Can't Find Server problem with both Safari and Firefox, it appears that some setting in the Macs themselves is causing this.

The bad news: I still can't access the site.
The problem affects two separate computers and four browers. Taking your advice, I repaired permissions and logged in as a new account on both machines. Unfortunately that didn't work.
I next tried accessing the site on the MacBook through Parallels running Windows XP Home. The site came up fine using Internet Explorer.
Then I realized that Parallels operates with a different ip address. So I went back on the Mac using a proxy, and the site came right up.
It now seems that the ip addresses of both computers are being blocked at some level. I want to thank Mulder for replying and virtually ruling out that it might be a Safari issue. I'm now "off topic" and will no longer post in this section. But I'm also over my head... If anyone has advice about how to proceed now, I'd truly appreciate it.
