Can't access password reset for old apple ID that is not an email

I have songs on my new computer that can only be authorized by my old apple ID. That apple ID is not an email, just an ID name. When I try to reset it by sending an email reset I have no idea where it is going. I have looked in all my old emails/junk mails/spam mails and nothing. To reset my password using the security questions I can't even get passed the birthdate. I created this ID when I was 10. How can I reset my password when I don't get an email verification because it wasn't even an email. I think it was created under the @mac.com domain, but when it shows up in the computer authorization window when I try to play music it's just the apple ID without a domain.

    Hello miamat2017
You should see an option to skip that step and then sign out of it when looking in Settings. Check out the article below for more information.

Trying to update an app from appstore list, but requests a pass for an apple id that is not mine! how can it be?

The app must have been downloaded by somebody else that used their Apple ID on your iPad, since purchases are always tied to the ID that was used to make the purchase. Unless your iPad is glued to your side 24 hours a day and nobody has ever used the iPad but you, then anybody that has ever used your iPad could have done it.

  • Password reset for old sbcglobal account - no longer an ATT customer

I have an account from my DSL service that I canceled some time ago. One of the sub-accounts was hacked and is suspended. I never set up alternate contacts for it, so it wants me to call a service rep to have the password reset. Since I am no longer a customer there is no path through the phone tree that I can tell to find someone to make this happen. Is it possible to have the password reset for this account?

  • TS1389 Similar problem with our iPad.  Apps purchased with "old" USR name that is not an email address can not be updated.  Free Apps update OK, but purchased ones show box asking for the non-email USR ID which Apple no longer recognizes.  HELP

Have tried to get Apple Tech Support and local Apple techs to deal with this problem to no avail.  Apple store "genius" throws up hands and says nothing can be done.  Root of the problem seems to be that the old non-email AppleID is stuck in their system creating a catch22 that it appears as the account purchasing Apps, then is not recognized as a valid ID, and then disallows any attempt to change it to a recognized email address.
Consequence is that Apps appropriately purchased can not be updated.  Apple store advises us to delete them and repurchase, but this seems more Windowsian than Applian.  Any Ideas??

    Hello J_DougBC,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  I found an article that addresses Apple IDs that are different than the Primary Email Address on the account.  You will need to go to https://appleid.apple.com/ to "Make your Apple ID and email address one and the same."
If your Apple ID and primary email address do not match, or they match but the email address is unverified, you can edit them.
    1. Sign in to My Apple ID to manage your account information.
    2. If you want to add and verify an email address that matches your Apple ID, follow the dialog box that says "Make your Apple ID and email address one and the same." This will automatically unverify that email address from any other Apple ID for which it was previously verified.
    3. If you want to change your email address to one that does not match your Apple ID, click Edit next to your Primary Email Address. If this email address is already associated with another Apple ID, you will need to sign in with that Apple ID and delete it before you can add it to your preferred Apple ID.
Note: If you have an @me.com or @mac.com Apple ID and primary email address, you cannot edit your primary email address once it has been verified. To change your @me.com or @mac.com primary email address to another email address, contact Apple Support for assistance.
You can find the full article here:

I hope this helps get you back on track!

  • Can't Delete icloud with old Apple ID (which is not an email address)

Alright a couple of years ago apple made the switch to an email address as the main log on, which I was cool with.  Fast forward to today now that I am interested in backing my phone up to the cloud I can not because it is prompting me for the password of my log in due to the fact the find my phone is on.  Meaning my log on back in the day was a random word same as my screen name "VERSE13" not an email.
Any help would be apreciated.  I tried all the switching of emails to holding magical massage rocks on the back of my phone.

This is what worked for me. Should also work with the other problems with old email address and what not.
First save all your important data.  I backed up all my contacts to OUTLOOK and took all my photos off the iphone.   This is important as you won't be restoring from an early sync.
The next thing I did was went into my itunes library and deleted all the apps that were associated with my old log in name.  (I made a note so I could redownload these later).  In Itunes library click on apps then click list.  Right click on app and select get info.  On the summary tab you will see the apple ID it was purchased/associated with.
The next thing I did was restored my iPhone using the following instructions (which will get you around the whole not knowing the password thing):
With Iphone connected to computer hold power and home button until the phone resets.
When the apple icon comes on release the power button (continue to hold home button).
The iphone screen will display something that is tell you to connect your phone to itunes.  On your computer you will receive the following message "Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode.  You must restore this iphone before it can be used with iTunes."
    Click Ok.
    Then click restore iphone.
Then confirm to restore and update.
When complete a screen that says "Welcome to your New Iphone" will be displayed.
Do not select restore from backup.  This will just cause the same problems with screen IDs.
At this point just disconnect your Iphone and go through the startup steps on your phone.
Sign in with the Apple ID/Cloud ID that you want to use.
When you are complete with that sync with Itunes library.
Make sure you select to set up as a new Iphone.  Place all your APPS and music back on your phone.  Set it up how you like it and sync to create a new restore point.
So basically it is just like you got a new phone.   So it is very important you save your contacts and pics and video to your local hard drive.

  • HT5312 I am trying to reset security questions.  I have made sure i have 2nd email address.  I have verified email address.  I go to send reset for security questions and i am not getting email back.

I am trying to purchase songs.  I am ask 2 security questions.  I can't remember answers.  I hit the send reset, security questions.  I am not getting any response back.  I went in and added another email address and verified it hoping that this would work and i would get it sent to that address. Still nothing.
I have a $15 itunes card tied to this.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi CDB,
A second email address is not going to help you. You would have had to set up a Rescue email address prior to forgetting the security questions. At this point, you will need to contact iTunes Support to get them reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699?viewlocale=en_US
    or by email:
    https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
You may want to look into two-step verification to replace the use of Security Questions, once you get this resolved:

  • HT4479 I have an Apple ID that's not an email, and I have been told it needs to be an email address.  I change it to my email address and it says my email is already in use.   I only have one email address.  I don't want to create a second email address.

I have an email account and they want me to use my (same) email account name as my Apple ID.  When I do it says my email is already in use.  Is Apply suggesting I need to create a second email address?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. Is the email address being used in the account of another Apple ID that you have?

  • Asked to enter password for Apple ID that is not mine

I am trying to update my apps. I just upgraded from a 4s to a 5s, and am reinstalling my apps. However, when I hit update, my phone asks me to enter a password for an Apple ID that is not my own. Under settings in iCloud, it says the account is my own, yet every time I attempt to update, I am asked for the password to a different apple account. I literally got the phone just about 30 minutes ago. Does anyone know what may be wrong and what I can do?

Presumably this is a second-hand phone? The previous owner has from the sound of it set 'Activation Lock', an anti-theft precaution. He should have removed it before selling it.
If a second-hand iOS device has been 'Activation locked' then only the previous owner can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices  - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
If you are unable to contact him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all. Apple cannot unlock it for you.
You should if possible return it to wherever you bought it and ask for a refund as in this event the device is completely useless.
If in fact it's a new phone then it shouldn't be possible for this problem to arise and again you will have to take it back to wherever you bought it from.

You don't need to have your iPod plugged in to access your iTunes library?
I'm not really sure what it is you are trying to do. :S
So you plug your iPod in and open iTunes and are prompted for a username and password for an Apple ID that is not yours?  If so, what does this prompt say exactly?

I have a new Apple ID - I would love to be able to merge them. Is that possible?

You need to contact Apple. Click here, phone them, and ask for the Account Security team, or fill out and submit this form.

how can I retrieve or reset an old forgotten password for a old discontinued email address.
I have lots of bought music that my new laptop can't play because it's not authorized

If you can't get it reset via http://iforgot.apple.com (do you remember the answers to your security questions or have a rescue email address on the account ?) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the password reset (they can also reset security questions).
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with

Then update the primary email address to be an email account that you have access to : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621

    Hi, cameo557.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are receiving a prompt for an old Apple ID when attempting an update.  You cant attempt to reset that password for the Apple ID via the steps in the first article below.  If you need assistance with this or are not receiving the email, see the second attached article.  You can also delete the applications in question and download them again with your new Apple ID.  However, this will cause any application data in those applications to be deleted and you may be charged if these are paid for applications.

That Apple ID is stored inside each of those applications. If you can’t get back into it, you’ll need to delete and redownload all of them, which may require repurchasing paid ones.
