Can't access photos inside iPhoto Library

Hi
When I go to advanced / Chose Photos To Share i get directed to the files in the Finder - from which location I cannot use the 'Show Package Contents' facility to unbundle iPhoto Library into its constituant folders - to then select the folders in iPhoto I want to select for Apple TV. Can anyone tell me how I can access my photos bundled within iPhoto Library via the 'Chose Photos To Share' command in iTunes?
Grateful for any suggestions here

Thanks Winston but no cigar! get it? Ha ha.... sorry...but I already did that and all I could access were the files outside of the 'iPhoto Library' file which obly accounts for a small % of my photos.

  • Help - can't access photos in iPhoto library after a restore

After a hard drive death, I got a new hard drive and put lots of new photos on iPhoto. Then I found some very old backup discs and used these to restore old photos. Unfortunately this has wiped the new photos from iPhoto... BUT when I go through Finder I can see them under Pictures. When I attempt to import them back to iPhoto it says it can't import them as they are already in the iPhoto Library - but I can't see them when I'm in iPhoto! How do I get them back?!
I have a similar problem with iWeb - my website has disappeared and been replaced with the old version that has been restored. But I can't find where the other has gone.
    Please help!

Sounds like a damaged database file:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • Can I reimport photos into iPhoto Library?

Hi, I unticked the Copy photos into the iPhoto Library so the photos are residing in an external folder now. Can I change my mind and reimport them into the iPhoto library and will this affect the albums, photobooks, and slideshows I've already created? i.e. can I rebuild this library with photos inside the library?

Can you hack an SQL database? If so, this user reckons he managed to do what you want:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3216539?tstart=30
    Alternatives:
This should work: Set the app to Managed Mode and Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Failing that: Start over from scratch.

  • Accessing photos in iPhoto Library without importing the whole library?

I watched the Aperture video tutorials and thought I saw how to access photos to manipulate from the iPhoto Library without importing the library, but now I can't find the reference!
Ideally I don't want to import the whole iPhoto library as it is rather large.
I simply would like to open photos from it to work on.
However, when I try to import files and navigate to my Pictures folder there is no sign of the iPhoto Library, only an empty file called "iPhoto Library Recovered Photos".
Note that I can access photos in other folders but I can't even see my iPhoto library, let alone open photos from it.

    GOT IT AT LAST !
Browse through iPhoto Library as above and drag chosen photo(s) into the project in the Inspector.
The photo can then be adjusted and finally saved by selecting File>Export>Version etc.

  • Front Row can't see photos in iPhoto library

I have been experiencing intermittent problems with Front Row and its ability to find my iPhoto library. I have even tried changing/adding libraries, but it doesn't want to work! I keep on getting "You don't have any photos in your iphoto library" when I select "Photos" from my Front Row interface.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a fix?

This is a hint from "iphoto library manager" which helped me. If you run this program you will see if there is a problem in your albumdata.xml file...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7158
In my case the keywords caused the problem. i opened iPhoto, deleted the keywords and ran iPhoto again. then front row worked again...
i hope this helps you as well...
    Advanced Troubleshooting
If you want to try to find the item in your library that is causing the problem, follow these steps as a general guide:
The error message displayed in iPhoto Library Manager, after saying "The album data file for this library is malformed", should then read "XML parser error:", followed by a more specific error that specifies a line number. Take note of that line number
Select the library in question, click the Reveal In Finder button to show the library folder, then double click the folder to look at the library's contents. The AlbumData.xml file should be inside.
Open the AlbumData.xml using a text editor that has a function that will allow you to jump to a particular line number in a file. Microsoft Word provides this function, as does the free text editor TextWrangler.
Once the file is open, jump to the line that is specified in the iPhoto Library Manager error message.
You have now found the point in the file where the data is malformed. From here, the exact steps to actually fix the problem can differ, depending on what part of the file the error is in.
If you see a line reading "<key>List of Keywords</key>" not too far up from your position in the file, then the problem is with one of your keywords. Open your library in iPhoto, open the preferences window, and go to the keyword list. Double click on the offending keyword to rename it, and just re-type the name of the keyword to get rid of any invisible characters that might be in the keyword's name.
If the problem is located in a record for a particular photos (you should see lines for properties such as "MediaType", "Caption", "Comment", etc.), then you can either go to that photo in your library and try to edit the photo's information, or you can just remove that photo from your library altogether and re-add it later. Finding the photo can sometimes be tricky, especially if the bad data prevent's the photo's title or filename from being written out to the file.

  • Can't add photos to iPhoto library

No longer can add phtos to iPhoto from Mail

Hmmmmmm, what changed and when? An iPhoto update? Did you just load Mountain Lion? Are you receiving some sort of error screen? Is this only from Mail that you have this problem or are you experiencing issues when working inside of iPhoto too?
Just double-checking, we are talking about your local iPhoto library and not Photo Stream, right? If you can give us just a little more to work with, someone may have a good idea for you.
In the interest of full disclosure , I do not use iPhoto very much, being a Lightroom guy myself. I have worked with it enough though to have a pretty descent understanding of how it works though. If some iPhoto guru wants to run with this one though, I certainly won't be offended......
    Hope we can help,

Photoshop is not a format.  It's an application.
What you are looking at are not true JPEGs, just iPhoto's "tease" representations of the hidden images it swallowed, as explained above.

  • How can I access my old iphoto libary on my newer laptop? I have a new iphoto folder on my laptop so I don't want to lose my current photos. I just want to add more.

How can I access my old iphoto libary on my newer laptop?
I have a new iphoto folder on my laptop so I don't want to lose my current photos. I just want to add more.

    Do the following:
rename the old library to something other that iPhoto Library.
copy the library to the Pictures folder on your new laptop.
launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the old library to open it and convert it to the newer version.
Note:  if the older version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on it before opening with iPhoto on your new laptop.
If you want to merge the two libraries into one library and keep the edited versions, keywords, titles, etc. you'll need to use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to do the merging.

  • How do you fix this error?  Can't access photos Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable

How do you fix this error?  Can't access photos----" Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create and use a new library then your current library is damaged.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • When I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.  There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach.  Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail.  How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos?  I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment.  Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message.  A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

  • I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?

I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?
I dragged one photo to the My Pictures folder in Finder. I knew it was just one photo because it was the only one highlighted in yellow. When I saw it in Finder, it was labled iPhoto. I thought it was the wrong picture, so in Finder I deleted the file. When I got back to iPhoto, EVERYTHING was missing. Events, photos, recent, and even trash. At this point, I went into my Trash. I searched for iPhoto and iPhoto was there. I opened it and it was still empty. All I want to do is to get my collection of photos back!

Best solution is to load your backup from before you did this?
Where did you drag the photo from?
Have you tried dragging it from the trash to the desktop?  What size is it?
What size is your iPhoto library in the pictures folder?

When opening the version of Iphoto i have an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto. What? If I can't open the current library using the latest version of iphoto, and I am asked to make changes the the newest version!!! I'm asked to run in circles chasing my tail...I had a new hard drive installed about 6 weeks ago. I am running MAC OS 10.5.8

What version of iPhoto do you have? If you're on 10.5 then you're not running the latest iPhoto
Any chance that the library was opened with another version?
Simplest solution will be to just restore from your back up.

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream.
