Can't access Preferences

Using Edge Code on Mac 10.7.5 the prefs remain grayed out regardless of having an open document, no open document, quit then relaunch. Latest update of Edge installed on CC. What am I missing here. I would reinstall but that is such a hassle on the CC since there is no Uninstall option, and if I just trash it the CC shows it is still installed. Thanks.

Hah, well I feel silly. I completely missed that.
Deehues, as Peter says, all of our current preferences are exposed as menu items or somewhere else in the UI.
But preferences is one of the things we're working on over the next couple of months. We're hoping to expose some of them via a UI as well as track preferences per-project and per-file where appropriate.

Time machine - external not large enough - now I can't access preferences to just select certain items to back up with time machine

How do I access preferences when restarting my external hard drive? When I tried the first time to use Time Machine it failed because the external hard drive was too small. When I ejected and restarted Time Machine I am not now able to access preferences to select only certain files for Time Machine to back up. I'm not sure I've got the right answer, but always willing to help out a fellow Portlander. You should be able to set your preferences for Time Machine by going to the apple symbol on your upper left screen, selecting "System Preferences" in the drop down menu, and then selecting Time Machine icon in the window that opens. In the bottom right of the preference window, "Options" allows you to select what is included or excluded in the backup by using the + and - buttons at the bottom of the display. Clicking plus will open a finder window and allow you to select and add files. Note also that you can check "Show Time Machine in Menu Bar" which will then display the icon on the top right side of your screen by the volume and date and time. Clicking on the icon once it's displayed takes you to the Time Machine preference window directly.

How can I access Preferences when monitor setting doesn't allow it?

I hooked up, via HDMI, my MiniMac to my 42" TV. All the menus & icons are so far out on the periferies, that I can't access them to go to Preferences>Display to change the monitor settings. Is there some way to gain access to Preferences>Display so I can change the monitor setting, even though the choice is not on the screen?

Don't know if this will work with your keyboard, but it's worth a try -
With Finder active (click a bare patch of desktop to make it so) press Command-Shift-/ (that's the slash key to the right of the period key). This is the standard keyboard shortcut to engage (open) the Help menu. In the search box in that screen (assuming it is visible) type "change brightness" (without quotes) and then press Return.
If this works, near the top of the items returned will be one named "Adjusting your display's brightness" - click it. In the new screen near the bottom center will be a link named "Open the Display pane of Displays preferences" - click it, and the Displays preference pane should open.
Sounds convoluted, but it gets you there.

Can't access Preferences in Safari 5.0.5

I have an older Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5. I've been unable to access Preferences in Safari--half the time the web page doesn't change, the other half the program crashes.
Any ideas?

Can't access preferences, fatal error/crash

I've done a search and found a few other people with the same issue, but none of the suggestions have fixed the issue.
The main project will open and edit just fine... I can even publish, as long as I didn't want to change any settings. Anytime I try to access project or quiz preferences, I get a fatal error. It saves the file and closes. I am also unable to start a new blank project. I click on it and it doesn't do a thing. Doesn't freeze, but doesn't open a new project. =(
I've deleted the local cache, I've updated captivate... we even went as far as uninstall/reinstall, which makes me wonder what the problem could really be?
I'm using Captivate 6 on a WindowsXP machine at work. Cache is being saved on a local C: drive. HELP!

I don't know where to look for the preferences folder. =(
I've accessed the appdata folder in my user profile and deleted the cache files, but that didn't solve my issues. I can see the Captivate folder in program files, but there's no 'Preferences' folder here.
Is there something that I'm not trying?

Can't access preferences, and action errors

After upgrading a PowerMac G4 to Tiger and installing the Photoshop CS2 action pack v.3.0 in Automator, the "Preferences..." option in the Automator menu is greyed out. Unfortunately I don't remember if this problem just happened after installing the action pack, or was there since the beginning.
If you're familiar with these CS2 actions, I've also been having trouble with the "Filter immediately" option in many of them (it returns a "Can't get item 1 of missing value. (-1728)" error). I feel these problems may be related and due to a bad installation of the action pack.

Hi,
Automator does not have the "Preferences..." option enabled, so you haven't broken anything.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about the CS2 actions, so I can't help with the latter problem, but it is definitely not related to the "Preferences..." being greyed out.

Leopard Bug? Can't access preferences in new Preview

Has anyone else tried accessing Preview's preferences in leopard. When I click on the preference menu button nothing happens. Is this a bug???

Verifying that any iCloud account that may be signed in is signed out should resolve this error.
On your Mac, open iCloud preferences, then click Sign Out.

Can't access Keyboard and Mouse panel of System Preferences

I can't access the Keyboard and Mouse panel of System Preferences. System Preferences starts up fine but when I click to access the Keyboard and Mouse panel, System Preferences indicates in the title bar of the window that it is loading the panel but it never does.
Does anyone have an idea about how to fix this? Thank you.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

System preferences freezes; can't access to make changes.

I have two identities on my MacBook Air. In the main identity, System Preferences is frozen so I can't access it to make any changes. I want to migrate my files to the other identity and delete the original one, as everything works fine in the second identity. I don't know what is causing the issue, so I don't want to move anything that will cause the same problem. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Does it freeze as soon as you launch it, or only when you select a preference pane? If the latter, which one?

Can't access iCloud in system preferences ... crashes computer!

With the latest iCloud update, I can not access the iCloud preferences within system preferences. When I try, I get a spinny ball and then a total crash of my computer, to the point where the mouse takes several minutes to move across the screen. I thought I'd give it time at one point, hoping the computer would need some time to process, but after 20 minutes it was still stalling... I tried several times after rebooting the computer, and still the same thing.
Perhaps this has something to do with my syncing my iPhone and iPad with the computer... I do have double entries in my iMac's ical, and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the iCloud stalling? I do notice that whenever I open iCal on my iMac, it has a perpetual "Updating..." note at the top...
What's going on and when can we (I know I'm not the only one here complaining of these issues) expect an update to fix this?

no way to use Mail anymore
no way to access iCloud preferences
no way to access email accounts preferences
and sometimes even the keyboard is no longer working.
So for beeing a Mac user since 1984 Maverick this is the lousiest "Downgrade" I ever experienced. At least now I know why it is for free: it is worthless!
So now I only hope that after countless hours of troubleshooting, reinstalling Mavericks, etc. , Apple will have the decency to solve these problems fast. With billions of dollars hoarded, they seem unable to programm a working mail application?

Why can't I access preferences or account settings for iChat

Let me start by saying I'm a newbie. I would like to use iChat. I set up a .mac account, a Google/Gmail account and an AIM account.
However, I cannot seem to log-in or use iChat using any of the accounts. I get to the Account Set Up page, enter the log-in info, get to the "Encrypted Chat" window, but cannot see any "Done" button that iChat says I have to select to start using iChat. Nor can I access any of the iChat account settings or preferences.
It doesn't matter if I'm on my wireless network (linksys WRt54G) or connected via ethernet. My firewall settings in System Preferences is open.
What am I doing wrong?

I am a bit confused as to what stage you are up to.
I think it is the difference in the words you had used (and where you have used them) compared to how I tend to think about iChat
I would like to use iChat. I set up a .mac account, a Google/Gmail account and an AIM account.
I take this means that you have Registered Screen Names at the required places.
I get to the Account Set Up page, enter the log-in info, get to the "Encrypted Chat" window, but cannot see any "Done" button that iChat says I have to select to start using iChat.
I am therefore assuming this mean you are stuck in the Start Up Screens ?
Start Up Screens
You get a Welcome Screen First
A place to Add ("set up" in my speak) an AIM or Apple Screen name. It has a place to Add your First Name Last name details - which may be pre-filled from the Address Book.
This pic is from iChat 4 but should be the same in iChat 5
You need to use the middle Drop down to select which type of account you are using/setting Up.
The option to Enable Bonjour Chats is the next screen followed by the option to Set Up Jabber (Or Google) IDs
In iChat 5 there are optional items under the Text Fields to set up Server Names if different to the ending of your Jabber ID and the Server Port to use.
This is followed by a Video Snapshot option/Preview of Video Screen.
The Last is the Done Screen which tends to list the Names you are setting up.
If I have summarised correctly this is where you have got to then Open the Folder with the Little House iCon (Hard Drive/Users/(your account)
In here then open the Library one and the Preferences one in there.
Use either List View or CoverFlow (Also a List) an find anything that starts com.apple.ichat..... and ends .plist and drag it to the Trash.
Try setting up just one Name (You can add more in iChat Later).
If that does not work can you click though all the screen without adding any details at all ?

Make sure you document is in RGM 8 bit color depth. Some Filters do nt support hings like CMYK or Lat or 32 bit or 16 bit documents. See it Filter gallery is available when you open a new document RGB 8 bit color.
