Can't access Previous System

OK folks, I've done a stupid thing. To nake a long story short, I re-installed Tiger via Archive and restore, twice, but I mistakenly let it set up my primary user account under my personal name, forgetting that previously I had set up my business name as my primary account, so when I tried to open apps, the file path name to preferences was wrong and everything wanted re-registering and I lost by Address book contents, Safari bookmarks and everything else.
So I set up a new account using my business name, but when I try to transfer my preferences from my Name account to my Business account, those folders in Users > Name > Library, it has a red circle on it and can't be accessed.
So I decided to re-install a third time, but here is my stupid mistake. I moved the Previous Systems folder to the desktop while in my business name account, and since my personal name account is the dominant one, my Previous System folder > Users > Business name > Desktop has a red circle and can't be accessed.
Is there any way to get at the previous system on the Desktop of that account?

Select that folder in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and change the owner to yourself in the Ownership & Permissions section.

  • Archive and reinstall - can't find previous system and want to delete

    Hey everyone,
I just did an archive and reinstall with OS 10.5 and now am running out of disk space. I've been trying to find the "previous system" folder but can't locate it with finder. Any ideas?
Is it in the system folder? What can I delete without killing my computer?
    Noob here, thanks a bunch!

    Current system is OS 10.5
previous was the latest update - 10.5.6?
I have about 10 GB less space now that I need to recover!
    I'm running this: MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz, 2GB 15", 160GB
    Thanks.

  • Can't delete Previous System File

    Hi,
I did an archive and install and was left with a Previous System folder that is about 13G. I used "whatsize" app to move it to the trash where I then did a Secure empty trash. Trash can is empty, but when I run Whatsize again, the same previous system folder is still there, taking up 13G's of hard drive space. Any idea how to get rid of this file?
    Thanks!

  • Can I trash "Previous Systems" after Archive and Install?

For details leading up to this question, please see my previous post entitled "Not recognizing password after OS install". Basically I want to know if I can throw out the "Previous Systems" folder that was created when I did an "Archive and Install" re-install of my OS.
    Thanks.

For more information about the previous system folder and what is saved, you can check out Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature. Probably the most important piece of information is that the Previous System Folder contains a copy of the /Users folder. If you thought that something was missing from your home folder in the new system after the upgrade, you could copy it from the /Users folder. But, if you selected the option "Preserve User and Network Settings" when you did the Archive and Install, this should not be necessary.
Personally, what I would do is to leave the Previous System Folder be for a couple of weeks. If you don't find anything missing, then it should be okay to delete it.

  • Can I delete 'Previous Systems' folder?

I have re-installed Max OS X twice, first time 2 years ago, the last time was yesterday. This last time I noticed at some point a message that the previous system could not be used anymore for starting up (I hope I recollect this correctly).
When I look on the HD there is a folder with '2 previous systems' folders, and both folders have 7 items, and each folder has 7 sub-folders. (Applications, Library etc.)
I assume that this takes up space on the hard drive? Does the newly installed sw need these old items? If not, would it free space if I delete these old system folders?
Thank you in advance for any information.
    Milli.

Some people keep them for a little while in case there is a plugin or settings file that they had in their old system that they want to put in their new one. Once you have decided you don't need any of those you can just trash them.

  • Can't Delete Previous Systems Folder

I did an archive and reinstall some time ago, and got what I needed from the Previous Systems folder. So I tried to delete it (Secure Delete), and got most of it gone. What is left is a "Previous Systems" folder, with an "Previous System 1" folder inside, which shows up in the window as empty. When I try and delete it, I get a message that I can't because "html" is in use. I went in via Terminal, and found a series of directories under my "empty" Previous System 1:
usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/html, with a ton of ".html" files in the "html" folder. I got rid of all those files, then tried to get rid of "html", but it tells me that it isn't empty. I used sudo rmdir, and sudo rm -rf, and I get the same message. What gives, and what can I do about it?

Just to follow up on my problem, I finally had to backup my drive onto another drive, reformat the disk, and copy everything back. The unempty-able Trash was then empty. I still have one other problem that I hoped all that would fix, but I'll post it as a separate question. Just in case someone's curious, the problem (which I had before) is that sometimes upon waking from sleep, I get no response from the machine in that:
    1.) The battery/power meter doesn't update.
2.) Once I try and click the cursor on anything on the screen (Locations, a window, the Airport menu bar), I get a spinning beachball that goes on for minutes. When it goes away, I try clicking again, and back it comes. Eventually, the machine "catches up" and works, but it's very inconvenient. Usually, this happens after the machine has slept over night. It could be a network issue (i.e., it's looking for the network it saw the night before), but it doesn't happen everytime. It's enough to make me wonder why I bought a Mac.

  • Can I delete previous system?

Hey all.... I've tried to look up the answer, but haven't completely understood posts. So:
I upgraded to Leopard (not Snow Leopard) about a year ago.
I am trying to clear up some space on my hard drive. What issues might I face if I delete the previous systems folder on my hard drive? I have everything backed up on an external. I am running some CS2 programs (soon to upgrade to CS4).
    Thank you!

If you are referring to a folder called Previous System then yes you can delete it. It is a dysfunctional appendage of an Archive & Install installation. Other than that please be more specific with titles of folders.

  • Can't access previously purchased TV shows from iTunes

I have purchased several tv series in itunes and can't access SD version to download.  It only gives me option of downloading HD version which would mean I need to repurchase.
This issue is a function of itunes not downloading current week show.  I have to do manually each time.  I am logged into account and have most current version of Itunes etc.

I'm having the same problem.  I purchased a SD season pass for a show and when I tried to download the newest episode I couldn't access the SD version.  When I click on the SD button nothing happens.  The only option it gives me is to download the HD version which means I would have to repurchase the episode.  I haven't had any response from Itunes support.  It hasn't been a problem in previous weeks.

  • Computer crashed and got a new one, but can't access previous purchases from iTunes.

My PC crashed and I got a Mac, I can't get my old purchases from the iTunes store onto my new computer. Is there a way to get my purchases from the iTunes store on my new computer? It's showing all the songs/videos I bought but I can't access them.

When you purchase content from the iTunes Store it's downloaded to the storage/hard drive of the computer you purchased them on. You should have made a backup like iTunes warns you to do.
However there is some hope, I can instruct you how to recover your content from the hard drive of the dead PC, provided the hard drive ITSELF still mechanically works and if your willing to perhaps spend some money and get your hands a bit dirty.
    Recovery option:
I'm going to assume here that the PC is dead, either mechanically or the computer won't boot from the hard drive and you are willing to extract the hard drive from the computer and see if it works to get your data off.
Be gentle, disconnect the power and remove the battery before carefully opening up the PC to remove the drive.
Once you got the drive out there is a powered IDE/SATA to USB adapter for sale online for $20 that you can take that internal hard drive and use it like a external drive to access your files from another Windows machine.
Your attempting to access a Windows NTFS drive from a Mac which can't read it, you need Paragons's NTFS for Mac® OS X software installed on the Mac first before hooking up the NTFS Windows formatted drive.
Once you do that, you should be able to navigate to your Windows/Music folder and transfer the whole iTunes folder directly to the Mac desktop and also recover any other files you need as well.
    Good Luck

  • Can't access previous Time Machine back ups to restore my personal data

I restored my very slow iMac using original discs and then rolled forward to get the software up to the lastest version of OS.  I restored some personal files from Time Machine and then did a back up.  Since doing the back up I can no longer access my old files.  Any solution?  Oh, and the performance is OK now!

Assuming by "old files" you mean TM backups made before you "rolled forward," you need to use the 'browse other disks' option described in the green box here to access them.
BTW, it isn't clear what version of OS X you are running on your iMac. It can't be any version of iOS like is shown in your product data -- that is just for 'i devices' like iPhones or iPads. If you "restored" from original disks you must have started with some version of Snow Leopard (OS X 10.8.x) & if you had previously upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8, you would have had to erase the HD to reinstall the older OS (which is probably why TM thinks the older backups are from another Mac).

  • After updating IE7, Firefox 3.6 no longer store history--back button in Firefox can't access previous pages.

Yesterday a security update for IE7 was automatically downloaded into my computer. Now the history feature of Firefox is working poorly. Often it doesn't save previous pages for the back button to access during an online session. The few times I've been able to navigate back to a Google search page, the search terms I've used previously are absent. However most often today, the browser doesn't even acknowledge that there were previous pages and the back button remains grayed out.

I got an email saying that Cor-el had posted a reply to my question. I don't see it on this page. Was it deleted?

  • Can I access cua SYSTEMS- SUBSYSTEMS using remote BAPI calls

I am using an external application to create users on a SAP CUA system and then push them down to the child systems.  I can create the user fine but I cant get the create to actually push the user down to the children.  If I create the user natively and push it down, I can see SYSTEMS->SUBSYSTEMS coming back and can pull the correct subsystem values from it.  That is not a valid input parameter for BAPI_USER_CREATE1 or BAPI_USER_CHANGE though.  What is the best call to set SYSTEMS->SUBSYSTEMS?
    Thanks in advance.

In case anyone is interested in this, the correct call to use is BAPI_USER_SYSTEM_ASSIGN.  This is a new call that is available with note 992375.

  • Does anyone know of an API that can gain access to system resource info?

I wish to include cpu and memory usage monitors in an application but i don't know any way of obtaining that info.
Does any one know a way of doing it?

Under linux or (I think) solaris, you could use the /proc filesystem. It's just a bunch of fake text files,
and you can read them like any other file.
If you're going for portability to windows best of luck.

  • Can't find Previous System folder

It's not where they were always deposited before. But is filled my HD, so I wanna archive it.
Doesn't show up in Spotlight, neither.

Yes, I did a Archive and Install. But there's no sign of it in my System, Root or Personal library. Gonna have to take to calling it Vista, Jr. soon.

    Hmmmm,
You might open a terminal and do a full search from the root directory on out.
Did you have any glitches during the install? If you do a second A&I over a bad one, the file may simply go away. But then, how did you migrate your old stuff over if you have no archive??
    Gotta be there somewhere, right?

  • Can't access previously purchased iTunes music ='(

    So here's the problem:
So about five years ago or so my computer that held all of my files crashed. And I know, it's my fault for not storing them elsewhere =(
Now I don't expect Apple to help me get all the mucic I lost, but all I want downloaded to my new computer are all the songs, apps, etc. that I had purchased over the years, since I know they keep track of all that. Now you may wonder, "Why don't you just sync your iPod to your new computer and problem solved!"
Well... that would work....except for the fact that some buttholes broke into my car and stole my iPod touch, the last storage item that held my music. I know I can't recover the music that I had burned into it, but I have been hoping that Apple could go ahead and allow me to download the music that I have bought to my new computer and new iPod. So far, I haven't found a way to do this. So will I have to call Apple about this? It doesn't seem fair for me to have to buy music that I already 'technically' own. Any way to do this? Thanks

You can redownload those purchased music from your new iTunes.
Go to the iTunes Store and select "Purchased" from the Quick Links side bar on the right. Go through all the tabs to download again for free
