Can't access Qmaster Preferences?

I am trying to setup a new Qmaster render farm, but have run into trouble right out of the gate. I installed Qmaster on our server, and 2 of our production boxes.
On all three machines when I go to Qmaster Preferences I get a dialog box that asks for:
Brose Wide Area Network (checkbox)
DNS Domain: (text field)
Cancel Apply buttons.
All but the buttons are grayed out and I cant select or add anything? Where do I go from here?

The System prefs or the application prefs? Are you completely new to Qmaster or is this just a new farm and it's not going together for you like it did last time?
If you're new to Qmaster, there are two manuals that can help you out. One is for the admin app and the other helps you run distributed processing. They're difficult reading but see page 56 of the manual called "Apple Qmaster 3 and Compressor 3" for information on how the DNS entry is supposed to work. then see page 14 and look for "Getting Started Quickly." You must create a cluster and start sharing before you can manage a cluster.

  • How do I set up the magic trackpad when I can't access System Preferences

Bought a new iMac and Magic Mouse.    After initial installation, decided to swap mouse for the Magic Trackpad.
Trackpad is turned on but I am unable to access System Preferences since my iMac was paired with the Magic Mouse.  I don't have another USB mouse to complete the pairing.  Any suggestions?   Thank You.

    Nancy,
If you have the bluetooth icon in the menubar, you can reach that and open bluetooth preferences by
pressing FN CNTL F8.  This will move focus to the right side of the menubar, then arrow across and down to get to the options you need.  Press the spacebar for "enter".

  • I can't access Calendar Preferences

I set up my new iMac using Time Machine (on hard drive from my G4 and Mac 10.5.8)
All worked well except that it was set up with one of two Apple ID accounts - the one I used for my .mac mail account.
Unfortunately my other Apple ID account (my Itunes account) is where I synched calendars, contacts, etc. So I managed to switch the iMac to the other Apple ID and all is now synched.
However, I'm notified that I can't use iCloud storage which seems to be linked to the first account.
Also, unlike all other programs - when I try to access Calendar Preferences nothing opens!
Is this a common problem when someone has two Apple ID's??

    Hello GfCT,
Turning of your Wi-Fi should prevent this message from appearing, allowing you to open preferences in Calendars and remove the offending account.

    Hi Wuz

  • Can't access Mail Preferences

Help - I am trying to switch internet providers and having issues with email change.
My mail program will not let me open preferences. It appears to be having issues with my password.
How can I get into preferences to change these accounts??

-Mail 3.6, the one that has a stamp icon
I believe that all versions of Mail use that stamp icon. Version 3.6 is the version that comes with OS X 10.5.8.
When I click on Preferences now, nothing happens.
So in Mail, you click on the Mail menu item, the Mail menu list drops down, but when you click on "Preferences...", nothing happens? That's very strange. Does anything useful happen when you use the keyboard shortcut command (apple)-comma? Have you done anything else that might affect file permissions?
You might also use the Keychain Access utility to delete any existing passwords for Mail to see if that allows you to give Mail the correct password.

  • Can't access System Preferences in Spaces

Quite frequently I find myself unable to access System Preferences.
I think it may be a Spaces issue and I think it may happen if I close the System Preferences window.
If I Option-Command-Esc, the window shows System Preferences is running. But force quitting System Preferences has no effect.
If I Command-Tab, I see System Preferences in the row of icons. However selecting this icon has no effect, the System Preferences window does not come to the front.
Of course I can't open Spaces to try to resolve the problem because it is a System Preference.
The only solution I have found is to Logout and log back in.

Oops, never mind. I have a Wacom tablet connected to my Mac, and turns out that the system prefs window was showing up on that screen instead of my main display.
For future reference, is there a way to delete a post such as my first one?

  • For the love of God!! Can't access system preferences.

My mom recently got a mac but we are new to it as we've always used Microsoft.
I've been trying to create an account for myself. I created it, and made it an admin, but it won't allow me to go into system preferences. Every time I click it, nothing opens. On my dock, the system pref. app is a question mark (?) and that wont open it either.
I am able to access preferences on the original user (my mom's user) but that doesn't help me at all.

In that second account, when you visit the /Application folder, what does the icon for System Preferences look like? How are the privilege settings for it?

  • Can I access system preferences, WHILE migration assistant is running on the source computer, to change the sleep setting?

I have started Migration Assistant and have NOW learned that I was supposed to change the sleep setting in System Preferences to 'never'. Since M.A. is running right now, can I change the setting or will it mess up the transferring of data??

Thank you for responding.  We did continually move the cursor for a few hours, but still had 13 hours to go, so after feeling we had nothing to loose, we did go into System Preferences to turn off sleep mode and we were able to do so on the source computer.  Now in the morning we see that MA kept running for 8  additional hours.

  • Lightroom Crashes and can't access my preference tab in Lightroom 5

I'm working on Win8 . When I click on the preference in lightroom, I keep getting the below error and the program shuts down. Also after changing the preference catalog the problem of Lightroom crashing when trying to sync my collections has been resolved but now when I go to sign-in, it says " that it seems that the computer is not connected to the internet.
My system config is as below. Is my computer too old to run Lightroom. I just bought the monthly subscription yesterday and since then I've only been plagued with one issue after the other.

I'd try to close LR and then back up and then delete the Preferences.agprefs file. File locations.
LR will create a new one on its next launch.

  • Can't access system preferences

my system preferences is not accessible from the apple menu and it has a grey question mark on it in the dock

    Back up all data.
Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the Recovery desktop appears, reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • Officejet pro 8500 a909g, limited user accounts can't use printing preferences

The above discription explains most of it. I had install this 8500 printer, then shortly after, uninstalled the other two older  printers I was previously using. That is when the problem started. I can not access printing preferences from a document or from control panel\printer and faxes. But I am able to access from the administrater account. I did an online chat with HP help and what we did made sence, but did not work. We went into the security tab in properties and added the limited user account for all permissions and reboted the computer. Did not work!!!!    I have a dell laptop, windows xp pro, and the printer software is now uninstalled.    the window that pops up when I click on properties is: Function address 0x50085a97 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0x0000005) Some or all property pages may no be displayed. I don not have this problem as an administrater only as a limited user.

I had this similar problem.  Installed this printer a few months back and for some time it was printing fine.  Recently, I changed the default preferences to black/white, draft, low ink etc etc.  Now if I click on the Properties I get this same window:
*** (x50085a97 caused protection fault (exception code 9xc0000005 some or all property pages could not be displayed) ***.
Running XP on an Dell Intel Pentium and it happens irrespective of the application I am using - usually firefox or staroffice.  9 times out of 10 I can't change the properties, but occasionally it allows me too then reverts back.  So now I am stuck with everything printing black/white as that's the default I set!  Any suggestions welcome.

    Hello mrmacjohn,
Verifying that any iCloud account that may be signed in is signed out should resolve this error.
On your Mac, open iCloud preferences, then click Sign Out.

  • Can no longer access Accounts preference pane !

At home I work on an iMac. I’m the admin, each of my children have their own user account. While I was working in ‘System Preferences > Accounts’ to adjust some of the permissions on one of the accounts the power went down. Once the power was back on and I restarted the computer I found everything worked fine but the account I was working on has disappeared from the log in pane. When I log in under my admin account and try to access ‘System Preferences > Accounts’ by clicking “Accounts’, in stead of al list of all accounts I get a blank window. This means I can no longer manage any of the accounts, including my own.
I checked the hard disc and the permissions by running Disk Utility: no problems.
I guess the power outage must have damaged some file or other but I have no idea where to start.
    Anybody have any idea?

    Hello Barry,
Thanks for taking the trouble to answer me.
We may have a language problem here (I’m working with a Dutch version of OSX).
Before I posted my question I checked the disk using ‘Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.app’. Could this be the same program you’re referring to as ‘repair disk’ on the Install CD because on the Install disk I can find no program called ‘repair disk’ but I can find ‘Disk Utlilty.app’?
Disk Utlilty when I ran it couldn’t find anything wrong.

I can't access the Keyboard and Mouse panel of System Preferences. System Preferences starts up fine but when I click to access the Keyboard and Mouse panel, System Preferences indicates in the title bar of the window that it is loading the panel but it never does.

    Hello Brian:
I would trash the preference file (com.apple.systempreferences.plist) and then restart the computer.
