Can't Access Server from Internet (via Airport Extreme)

Not sure if this is an Airport Extreme or a SL Server question, guessing the latter?
From my local network I can access the OSX Server home page by entering the URL myserver.dyndns.org (domain registered on the DynDNS site) in Safari. The server is setup with a fixed IP.
I have a dynamic IP from my ISP, and am updating the domain mapping to the IP address using an Airport Extreme and completing the dynamic global hostname info. When I ping the domain I get the correct IP address. The Web Server is running, but I am using default configuration info (perhaps my problem? not sure, working fine from the local network). I have a bunch of ports open on the Airport Extreme, and pointing at the server IP address (including 80). But when I try the URL myserver.dyndns.org from the Internet (outside my local network) I can't connect.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thinking it must be simple!

ISPs usually block port 80 for home users but leave 8080 open. Actually you could use any port number you want as long as you redirect it to port 80 on your server machine using the Airport. Once you set it up have someone outside your network try to access it by using your IP address and port number you assign, eg. http://123.456.789.101:8080
That should bring them right in.
I use this method to host sites on my Mini Server at home and use DynDNS with port forwarding on my domain names.

  • 2 Computers Cannot Access Internet Via Airport Extreme at the same time!

I recently purchased two new computers -- a Macbook Pro (for myself) and a Macbook (for my wife). My Macbook Pro arrived first, and connected to the wireless network via Airport Extreme with no problem. Once my wife's computer arrived, and we would connect to the network with her computer, every time she accesses the network it basically "boots" my computer from the network. It still says I'm "connected" to it, but no programs/browsers/etc. that use the internet will actually work and it behaves as though there is no network connected at all. In the mean time, her Macbook continues to operate as normal and never seems to get "booted" by my Macbook Pro. Is the network thinking our two computers are the same computer? Or, what is the problem? PLEASE HELP!

I have had the same problem with my iMac and MacBook, both on leopard and with a new AEBS. With the additional symptom that internet connection will drop on either machine individually, with the other powered off. I also tried a Time Capsule, with exactly the same results. But I have observed what is described here. Internet connection is fine on one machine, then drops and I find the other machine working for awhile, until it drops. Just ping-ponging back and forth.
Since I am seeing the same problem in two new Macs with an AEBS and TC, it's hard to say that there a problem specifically with any one of them. I suspect that my problem is interference, or electrical noise when using 802.11n. The only thing that worked for me is "802.11b/g compatible" mode.
In another post, it was suggested that the AEBS was interacting with Digital cable TV/internet, potentially causing an electrical noise issue. What kind of service to you have?

  • How can I print from ipad2 via airport extreme to hp printer on USB.

Is there a way to get iPad2 to print via airport extreme to a non wireless hp printer?

Apple - iPad - Print right from your iPad with AirPrint.
Unfortunately, AirPrint will only work with AirPrint enabled HP printers.
Check the HP site. They may have an app available you can use for your USB / Airport printer.

  • Connect 3 LANs over internet via airport Extreme

I have 3 offices for my small business and would like to connect all 3 LANs for a variety of operational reasons without getting a virtual LAN from the ISP (as this is cost prohibative and we have 3 different ISPs due to geographic locations).
I have heard this is possible via Airport Extreme, but I am unable to find any documentation on the matter.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks
    t

Also should note that at the primary location I have a Mac Mini q-Core Lion Server.

  • Can PS3 access NAS connected to an airport extreme n via wi-fi?

We have currently an airport extreme n with two HDD attached. 1 is back for desktop macs and the other is general storage and media storage. The extreme is the connection point for all devices in the household. This is due to none of the devices being in one spot or near the extreme which is located at optimum location to cover the home. Cabling is not an option at this point. Specifically our PS3 which is our TV tuner, blueRay/DVD player and media centre. Only issue is I can't directly access the media HDD attached to the extreme using the wi-fi. Otherwise this setup works reliably 24 hours a day. The HDD is the correct format and so is the content. I have read that it is due to apple not supporting UPNP (sorry if I got that wrong). Due to other issues I've decided to upgrade the setup to add a NAS, probably a 4 bay. Reasons are for raid backup of media files and further expansion and storage flexibility without disturbing the media. Any way I can find lots of choices of products that say they fit my criteria. The only thing I can't find out or confirm is if the PS3 will be able to access the NAS media content if it's connected to the extreme and accessed by the PS3 via the wi-fi connection.
    Cheers,.

I assume that you plan on connecting an Ethernet-ready NAS device to the Extreme. If so, then it should be accessible from the PS3 via either a wired or wireless connection to the base station.
UPnP would only be necessary for access through the base station's NAT firewall to/from the Internet.

  • I can no longer connect to the internet via Airport Extreme.  HELP!

Over the weekend my Macbook told me that my Airport extreme firmware needed to be updated, so I did that, now I have no internet connection from the Airport. I have no problem connecting to the Airport itself, but I have no actual internet connection. The connection is fine when I plug an ethernet cable directly into the computer.
I really hope someone can help with this!

Hi DaveX83 and welcome to the discussions.
    A few things to try.
Press the reset button once on the back of your Extreme and let it restart. Check for proper operation.
If no help there, keep the ethernet cable connected, and open Airport Utility. Click on Manual Setup near the bottom of the pane. On the next screen click the Airport icon at the upper left of the pane, then click Wireless in the line just below that reads Summary - Time Capsule - Wireless - Access.
Check to see that your wireless is set up, security set up, passwords, etc. You may need to reconfigure your wireless settings again and update the Extreme to store them and restart.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't print from Macbook via Airport Extreme.

I have just got myself a White Macbook and have it connected to my Airport Extreme. I already have an imac connected and everything is working fine internet wise but if I try and print from the macbook via the imac a window comes up saying 'Canon MP610 series @ newimac - connecting to xxxx-xxxxx-computer.local. on port631...' but nothing else happens. My firewall setting on the imac is at 'Allow only essential services'. If I change it to 'Allow all incoming connections' the printer works. I do have printer sharing switched on in both machines. Any help gratefully received. Thanks, Kevin

Try changing your firewall settings to set access for specific applications and services. This should allow printer sharing, while still keeping things blocked that you don't want.

    Hello Mohd,
    Here are the facts:
I honestly think you need to change that route statement as it basically says if you want to contact the NARAYASERVER send the packet via the INSIDE interface to the IP address 172.27.17.100
    route inside NarayaServer 255.255.255.255 172.27.17.100
    interface Ethernet0/1
    nameif inside
    security-level 100
    ip address 172.27.17.100 255.255.0.0
So basically send the packet to yourself (Does not make any sense.. Try to read it so you can understand what I mean.
The NAT 0 is breaking the translation.
access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip host NarayaServer any
    nat (inside) 0 access-list inside_nat0_outbound
    Do the following :
    access-list inside_nat0_outbound permit ip host NarayaServer OTHER_site_VPN_subnet
no  access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip host NarayaServer any
Then u should be able to connect,
Let me know if you will follow my instructions, otherwise I think I am not helping here

I get an access violation at the server.
The server is within our intranet and can normally access the database server at that address using net8

  • Can't connect to internet via AirPort Extreme with Laptop running Vista

I've seen a lot of posts on this topic, and maybe I'm just out of luck, but anyway...
My PC running XP can connect to the internet through the AirPort Extreme, but laptop will not. I load the AirPort Utility on the laptop. Should I be able to see the base when I run the Utility? It does not see it. I can see the wireless network with excellent strength, but all I can do.
If I can't get this to work, I'm going to just return it and to back to the wireless router. I was enticed by the ability to connect the printer and external hard drive to the base. I would like to get rid of the PC and just use my laptop for everything.

Looking over your original post again, I think I might have misunderstood you the first time. If I understand you correctly, your Vista laptop can see the wireless network and connect to it (so you have access to the Internet), but you cannot see the Airport Extreme Base Station when using Airport Utility.
If your Internet connectivity is not an issue and it's just that you can't see the base station in Airport Utility to configure it, try using an ethernet cable to connect your Vista laptop to one of the LAN ports and see if the base station shows up in Airport Utility then.

  • Can't access server web sited via lan

    Hello
I hope there is somebody here that can help me with this problem..
All of sudden I can't access the different web site I host on my OS X Server 3.1.
It worked fine this morning but this afternoon I just get an 404 server not found, but if I connect from outside the LAN it works fine all the sites are working, but not from within the LAN, and that was working before...
The wired thing is that I haven't made any changes to the server ore any of my computers/iPad/iPhone...
If I change the DNS on my computers from using the router to using the server it works fine, so I'm thinking it's something to do with DNS resolution at my ISP
As far as I understand it's like this
domain.com -> top registrar -> external DNS provider -> my external IP -> server on lan
But it has been working fine for 1 year now and I haven't made any changes in the past, and I'm thinking that since it works fine from outside my LAN and when I use the server as DNS server it works fine...
I think it's the router or my ISP that can't route correctly since the request comes from the same IP as the GET is for... but then again it was working fine this morning... :S
I hope that there is somebody out there that can help me either show me a tool where I diagnose the HTTP/DNS request ore something...
    /Alex

You need to run internal DNS which points the host
    names to the private IP.
Your current setup probably sends the host names to
your external address, which causes your
client-server traffic to go through your router (not
    very efficient).
Internal DNS is the best way to solve this.
You might get a quick fix by changing the web admin
port of the router to something other than 80. (this
will allow traffic to loop back to LAN port on some
    routers).
    Jeff
Could you give a step by step on the DNS setup? I new to his and a complete ignorant sod. thanks so much
And how would I change the web admin port in the router? I have a NAT rule on port 80 pointing to the server. If I change that would it not mean that all traffic coming into port 80 (i.e. http traffic) would get lost?
    thanks

  • Can't get windows 7 netbook onto wireless internet via airport extreme.

I've spent 3 days trying to get my new Acer netbook with windows 7 home premium in it on the internet wirelessly through my Airport Extreme. It shows the internet is there but will not connect. It keeps asking me for a security key. I have tried my system password and the airport password, neither of them work. I have a feeling I'm just missing something in one of the settings but I am a die hard Apple/Mac user and this little windows machine is really killing me! The airport is working flawlessly for my Imac desktop and my Ibook so I know it isn't the airport. Anyone have any suggestions (other than getting rid of the Netbook?)

I'm kind of having the same problem. I can finally connect and get on the internet wirelessly but I can not setup my Airport Extreme. I just moved recently and I didn't have any issues at my old place and now I can use the internet and I get this blinking amber light and it's kind of annoying. Every time I click Manually Setup or Continue in the Airport Utilities my computer will try to detect any Apple devices, even though it right there on the left side it can not connect to it. At the same time I click either button my wireless disconnects for a second and reconnect.
I can't setup my Airport Extreme using this garbage OS they call Windows.

How are your Intel Macs connecting to the Internet? If wirelessly, what type of Wi-Fi equipment are you using? Is your wireless base station configured to support 802.11b or 802.11g clients? If you connect that iMac G5 to the base station with an Ethernet cable, can it connect to the Internet?

  • Macbook connectivity to internet via airport extreme is flakey

    Hi,
Just bought a brand new airport extreme and I already own a June 2009 Mac book pro w/ snow leopard.
I always run software updater, so the Airport 2009-002 patch/fix is on this system.
I have a strange problem with my connectivity to the internet from my mac via the airport extreme.
Very regularly (and seemingly randomly) the laptops connectivity to the internet will drop out... i.e. websites won't respond, big websites (like google) don't respond to pings or anything. While these internet "drop outs" are happening, i can jump onto my PC (which is connected to the airport extreme via ethernet) and the internet is working fine.
Also, Wifi never drops out through this whole situation. This means that while I can't access the internet, my reception is still FULL and I can SAMBA connect to my PC and with other computers on the network.
It's very strange that purely internet via the Airport Extreme is having these issues.
The Airport is in Bridge mode (which means the ADSL modem/router is the DHCP server). The ADSL modem/router does not have wifi active or anything connected to it (other than the airport).
I've never had any issues with my internet - this is the first. My only real option if this can't get resolved is to return the airport, as this is inhibiting me from working from my laptop.
    Anyone else experience similar issues?
Can someone recommend any course of action to work around this issue?
Is there anymore information this forum needs to debug this problem? How can I obtain this info?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards,
    Vijay

I seem to be in a very similar predicament, however I'm served even worse:
I'm loosing Internet connection over both LAN and WIFI. And the Airport Extreme does not detect the loss of connection even though the logging indicates the internal ntp client (trying to connect to time.euro.apple.com) fails (already on dns resolution).
Currently, I'm dvlp-ing a shell script that checks 4 websites, and if all 4 are unaccessible, I launch an applescript that restarts my airport extreme basestation.
This however does not always seems to solve the problem. Seemingly I would have to reset the modem.
The problem can - according to me - not be provider related, since it does not occur when the TimeMachine is replaced by a SL-installed mac mini (that however cannnot function as router (yet)).
    Any hints ? anyone ?
I previously had installed an Airport Extreme 10/100 version, which showed the same behaviour. Since the system was out of warranty, I decided to upgrade to a faster system, including TimeMachine, but unfortunately, the problem is still there.
I'm guessing now it could be related to the router being configured in dhcp (getting its ip address over dhcp), but the server provides a static ip address (never changes),... and maybe here there's something fishy.

  • All devices connect to internet via AirPort Extreme except Windows

    Hi -
We've got an AirPort Extreme 7.6.4 set up using Bridge Mode, receiving DHCP service from an OS X Server 10.8.4. Macs and wireless devices of all makes and models work fine, but we are increasingly finding that Windows PCs are unable to access the internet, despite making a wireless connection to the AirPort.
This is difficult to troubleshoot, as the Windows PCs are invariably clients' computers and they don't tend to have much access to their control panel, but any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    z

Thanks so much for the response.
There are no other routers providing DHCP service, only the Mac server. We do not have NetBIOS enabled.
The Windows PC clients are not receiving an appropriate IP address -- they are self-assigned 169.x.x.x. The PCs *do* receive a correct IP address if I hardwire them.
