Can't access store. So go back to v4.? but even that ain't easy.

Given I am still unable to find the needle in the haystack that is the problem that prevents me from accessing the music store under version 6, I tried to re-install ver 4, but the library file (.itl) has been altered by the upgrade and itunes throws up the message that it is a newer version, so itunes does not work.. Is there anyway to change this file back so that ;
a) i can use ver 4, and thus
b) access the music store
or has it been changed forever, and i'm now sunk.
Also; what about if i completely dis-installed Norton..? or is this pointless if I cannot access the store even with everything in norton turned off...?
Dazed and Confused..
FYG Have tried following to solve problem
- Permitting all on Norton Firewall (and disabled firewall)
- Have checked/unchecked proxy server settings
- Pasted the URL phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/storeFront (with no www or http) into IE and still get same error
- am not running a web accelerator
- have checked/unchecked/checked 'Use SSL 3.0' in Internet Options
- am running XP serv pack 2
- have uninstalled and reinstalled ver 6.
pfftt!
Any other clues?/ideas?

Well, I won't have that cruddysoftware on my PC, but I know it's popular.
It IS possible to set up Norton to allow iTunes, but isn't it stupid how it just blocked iTunes without asking you? Norton doesn't just silently block iTunes, by the way, it messes with all sorts of programs. I don't consider it an Apple problem AT ALL.
Here is a post from user Lorraine that helped lots of folks
I too was having a problem with iTunes 6 not starting after upgrading. It just sat there doing nothing (no error messages, nothing) when I tried to open it. I am also running Norton's Internet Security 2005. Norton Internet Security 2005 is defiantly "silently blocking" the iTunes processes
I'll detail the steps that resolved my problem hopefully it'll work for you.
I'll mention this but I don't think it had any bearing on the fix.
First off I did read thru some of the posts and started by downloading and installing the Quicktime 7 Standalone player found at this URL:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
I ran it twice, the first time it uninstalled the Quicktime version packaged with iTunes 6. I'm pretty sure there both the same versions. On the next
run it installed it. After that with NIS 2005's Personal Firewall ON it still didn't start. If I turned OFF NIS 2005's Personal Firewall iTunes started no problem,
Library intact and all.
Turn NIS 2005's Personal Firewall OFF, (turn it OFF Permanently until your ready to turn it back on) then click CONFIGURE.
Under the PROGRAMS tab remove any reference to Apple iTunes or iTunes or iTunes Helper Module or anything related. and reboot.
After coming back go back to NIS 2005's Personal Firewall, click CONFIGURE. Under the PROGRAMS tab click ADD at the bottom, a SELECT A PROGRAM
window will pop up. Add the following files one at a time, iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, QuickTimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe, QTInfo.exe. The last 3 are found
in your Quicktime folder where that is in your system. Click OK. Turn NIS 2005's Personal Firewall ON, and try starting iTunes again.
This worked for me. It seems the Quicktime files were never automatically entered into my NIS 2005's Personal Firewall allowable programs listing. Adding them
manually should help. I also noticed that from my previous version of iTunes the program listed in the Firewall was named Apple iTunes and not iTunes after I upgraded to 6.
Let me know if this works out.

  • Installed iTunes 9 as advised and now I can't access store

Hi, just installed iTunes 9 and advised when trying to purchase a film and now I can't access the store. I can access my account etc but just get a blank screen when trying to access store! Have tried technical support but they say it's my computer's problem. Why? when I was on the iTunes store 10 minutes previous! Have limited computer knowledge but any help would be appreciated as I'm about to be flying and need some new films!

I have exactly the same problem. I haven't had access to the iTunes Store since upgrading to 9.0.1 nearly two months ago and none of the suggested fixes have worked for me. I use iolo as my firewall. Does anyone have any ideas?

On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture.  How can I access the Aperture Library  on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup?  I can only access the application but not the library..

Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    Hi fremley,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This article may be helpful with determining why your Mac Pro doesn't stay in sleep mode:
Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep or stay in sleep mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776
Some things reset the sleep timers, preventing the computer from sleeping:
Hard drive access (even if you're not using the computer, a running application might be accessing your drive, such as when downloading a large file or listening to music in iTunes)
Moving the mouse or using a portable Mac's trackpad, pressing a mouse button, or pressing a key on the keyboard
Some System Preferences settings (see below)
    Open applications (see below)
    Input devices (see below)
    Expansion cards (see below)
Additional drives, such as USB, FireWire, DVD, or CD drives (see below)

  • Disk utility can't repair but can't access the HD to back-up files?

I'm relatively new to MACs and have a 2TB Seagate with a good portion of our family pics on it.  I opened the Disk Utility and attempted to repair the HD but get the message:
"Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Here's where I'm stumped...I can't actually access the disk to back it up.  At one point I was able to open the disk and see the files so I went and bought another HD to back it all up....but now I can't access it.  I've found a few threads discussing using recovery software but the data isn't that important.  I was using the HD as my Time Machine BU so I'm more nervous about re-formatting it and trusting it with my data again.  Should I bother even reformatting it or just toss the thing?

You might try a force mount...
Launch/Utilities/Terminal and enter this command at the prompt
    diskutil list
Press return. If it sees the disk, note the number of the disk (far left column) you want to mount.
    Then, enter this command
    mount /dev/(number of disk)
Put in the number no parenthesis.
    Press return.
If you're able to mount copy off the data you need. Even if you can mount it, wouldn't I trust the disk again.
Try Drive Genius in demo mode to run a surface scan and see if there are any bad blocks.

  • Can only access one Mac via Back to my Mac

I have Back to My Mac set up on my home Mac and two Macs at my office. I can successfully connect to one of the Macs at the office from home, but not the other.
Both office Macs are running Mountain Lion, have Back to My Mac enabled with the same iCloud account credentials, and are on the same LAN/router/switch. My home Mac is running 10.7.5 and cannot be upgraded to 10.8 (it's a very old Mac Pro 1,1.)
Because both office Macs are on the same LAN, those Macs can see one another in the Shared Sidebar in Finder, and I can Screen Connect that way, but I can't access the second office Mac from home for some reason.
I've tried stopping/starting Back to My Mac on the troublesome Mac numerous times (as well as my home Mac), and followed the instructions elsewhere on Apple's site to delete all the Back to my Mac Keychains and recycle the connection, but it didn't help.
Because it's a corporate network, I don't have direct access to the router settings (both work Macs complain that NAT-PMP and/or UPnP aren't on, but since I can still connect to one work Mac from home, that doesn't appear to be the problem.) Both Macs are connected exactly to the network the same way, though, so I'm confused as to why one Mac works while the other doesn't.
Are there any other settings I can check or confirm on the problematic Mac? Am I incorrect in assuming I should be able to connect to two different Macs remotely using the same iCloud account? I just assumed all the Macs I have would be connectable via Back to My Mac if they used the same credentials.
    Thanks,
    R

  • Can't access store or help on pc even after reload

I've tried everything but every time I try to access the Store or Help, laptop hangs.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 3 times now, all successfully but with the same result.  I don't dare attach my IPOD since I don't know what's going on but I can't purchase or backup or even run diagnostics.  It hangs up every time.  I can play music from my library but that's all I can do??  This may have started when I tried to give Itunes access to another user on this computer, but I don't know for sure.  I wish I had addressed it sooner so I could restore prior to when I did that but it's been about 2 months now so a restore is not at option at this point.  I'm gonna take an uneducated guess that something is corrupted but what?  If an uninstall and reinstall doesn't do it I don't know what else to do.  Please help.
