Can't Access System Profiler Or Disc Utility

Hi! I have a iMac G5 With leopard software, 10.5.8 version. And I can't open the system profiler or disc utilities at all. I've tried everything basically, Should I reinstall my Leopard software?

Something that came to mind after rereading you post relates to the particulars of a "hard" reset on the Snow.
A “hard” reset removes current setting from the base station. You must then connect to the base station using the AirPort Admin Utility and upload AirPort 2.0 or later software to return the base station to its default settings. A base station in a hard reset is only accessible through the LAN port, not via wireless connections ... so attempting to access with the AAU, via a wireless client, will not work.
The following is the process to reload the AirPort software: AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet) : How to reload software from Mac OS X

  • Can't run System Profiler, error code -10660

    Hi-
I am trying to determine if my daughter's B/W g3 (350 mhz, 512 mb, OS 10.3.9) will accept a new, modest 20" flat panel she'll be getting for Christmas.
I can't run system profiler, or disc utility to see what's under the hood. I keep getting 'error code -10660'
    Any ideas?
Any recommendations for the monitor would be appreciated also. I was thinking something about $200.
    Thanks-
    Ray

If you're trying to launch the application by opening a document, select the document in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and set it to open with the correct application in the Open With section. If you're opening the application directly or through another method other than opening the document, move it to the Applications folder; that error means that the application set as the default wasn't found or is in the Trash.

  • Can't access any profiles

I can't access any profiles. The mouse moves but won't click on anything. Not a mouse issue.

    Hello Tish1949,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with startup issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support
Here are a few tips from the article you may want to consider:
    Try Safe Mode
If you're using Mac OS X 10.2 or later, you can start up your computer in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair. If you're using Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier, skip to the next section. A Safe Boot, which starts up your computer into Safe Mode, might allow you to start up your computer successfully. To do this, follow these steps:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
After the system has fully started up, restart your computer again normally.
If your Mac successfully restarts, the issue should be resolved. If the issue continues, try using Disk Utility.
    Try Disk Utility
Use these steps to use the Disk Utility app to verify or repair a disk.
If you're using OS X Lion or later, start the computer from Recovery System or Internet Recovery. If you're using an older version of OS X and your computer came with a Mac OS X Install disc, insert the installation disc and restart the computer while holding the C key instead.
When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window, or from the Installer menu if you're started from an installation disc.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Startup Disk (usually named "Macintosh HD").
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Tip: With Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier, always start up your computer from an Install or Restore disc when using Disk Utility to verify or repair your startup volume. Otherwise, you might see some disk error messages.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    BobbyD

  • Disabled System Profile and Disk Utility

I have just acquired an Ibook G4, unfortunately without any operating disks. If I try to go into the System Profile or Disk Utility I am told that this may be disabled or not installed. Will an installation of a new operating system, probably Leopard as that's the easiest one to get hold of, resolve this issue?

Either Tiger or Leopard. So long as they are full retail installers
and not someone else's old system disc for a specific computer
you do not happen to also have. Being careful to get one that
can install on any compatible and supported computer is best.
If you had the correct disc as was missing, a utility such as one
known as Pacifist could be used to get only the parts you need
from the correct install disc, and those could be put in separately.
In the absence of that, a full and totally new installation is one
way to be sure the drive can be tested (booted Disk Utility, zero
data on drive, reformat, install all new from scratch) & be good.
The nice thing about Tiger, if you can find someone who has
upgraded to Leopard and has a 'retail Tiger installer set' to
give you or sell at a low price, that is a good system and it
has all the other parts to upgrade from the retail installer,
on the internet. And any issues in Tiger are solved.
Since you do not have the original software packet which
the computer came with when new, some of the apps in
the computer now won't be in there if you do a major and
proper all-new installation of the new system on a wiped
or totally erased (over-written with zeros from the booted
full installer disc's Disk Utility options, then reformatted to
HFS+ or Apple Partition Map, then full system installed)
the old stuff from prior generations of use will be gone.
So will the old AppleWorks application and a few other
nice but no longer available items. The new iWorks is
    a suitable replacement for AppleWorks in some ways;
and the free NeoOffice is adequate if you need an app
    somewhat like MS Office X.
Without the OS X Installer disc set for the system in
the computer you have, you can't repair it nor can a
reset of the password or change of other features
be done properly. If the account you are using on it
is not an admin user account, some settings may
have been reduced for some lesser user level. And
if someone damaged the system somehow by taking
parts of the OS X out of the folders, it would need
at least an 'archive & install' with that old installer.
So, you can make use of the computer if you have a
full retail installer disc and the computer is supported.
There are requirements to be met for various systems
to work in a variety of computers, so you may need to
read in Support to see what the minimum requirement
is, for the OSX version you may get a deal on.
There may be other options, but they should start with
the proper install disc that is missing in the first place!
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can't access my profile or my notifications

I can't access my profile of my notifications via the "Your Stuff" menu...
    It says :
    "Not Found
The item does not exist. It may have been deleted."
which doesn't make any sense since I'm using my profile right now to write this message...
It might be because of my username? (because of the 2 '/' ?)
In that case, is it possible for an administrator to change it ?
The same thing happens on Safari (5.0.5) or Firefox (4.0).

    Hi -
It probably is because of the 'special' characters in your chosen username - when I just now tried to access your public profile by clicking on your icon, I got the 'not found' intercept. BTW, your icon is not showing, either - another symptom that the software is balking at finding your stuff because of a name conflict.
I'll notify your post - nothing bad, just an alert to one of the hosts to see if they can get it resolved.
    Edit - - Done.
Had a thought... If you do not have a lot of effort invested in this account yet, i.e. not a lot of questions, answers, or points, you might consider the real simple solution - abandon this account and create a new one, one with a username acceptable to the system.

  • Access system profiler after clean install

I just did a clean install of Mavericks on a laptop that I am going to sell.  I forgot to write down the system information (i.e. RAM, processor, version) before doing the install now I can't seem to find a way to access the system profiler to get this info.  I can't get the menu to show during the regular install process (though I remember being able to do this before on previous versions), I also looked through the recovery partition but didn't see anything there.  Am I missing something?

  • I can't accessed system recovery options after the repairing process was interrupted.

although it's not my PC, i'm still concern about it (it's actually a public computer in our library). I actually tried to repair it using the system recovery options of windows 7 with thinkvantage technoliogies  but i interrupt it because maybe someone will caught me and i will be mistakenly be liable. and the result is after i restared it, it restarts over and over again, with BSOD appearing for a split second. i tried to use disable autorestart on system failure feature, and i saw the BSOD. but the real issue is i can't go through the recovery options, only until the part when i'm asked to select a keyboard input method, then the next part is this message: "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click OK to restart the computer." anyway, this is the BSOD says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus disk defragmentation  or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

  • How do I set up the magic trackpad when I can't access System Preferences

Bought a new iMac and Magic Mouse.    After initial installation, decided to swap mouse for the Magic Trackpad.
Trackpad is turned on but I am unable to access System Preferences since my iMac was paired with the Magic Mouse.  I don't have another USB mouse to complete the pairing.  Any suggestions?   Thank You.

    Nancy,
If you have the bluetooth icon in the menubar, you can reach that and open bluetooth preferences by
pressing FN CNTL F8.  This will move focus to the right side of the menubar, then arrow across and down to get to the options you need.  Press the spacebar for "enter".

  • Can you trust System Profiler? Check this out.

Looking at the system profiler i was concerned about my battery capacity so i installed Coconut battery to check it as well.
Look at this screen grab and see if you can spot the problems.
    http://www.jonspeed.com/batt.jpg

Well, beyond the discrepancy in battery parameters, I'm trying to figure out how you got version 2.3 of Coconut Battery? From what I can tell by visiting both the VersionTracker page and the developer's site (http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/index.html), Coconut Battery is currently at version 2.2.
    What's up with that?

  • Can't Access Myspace Profiles via Safari/Firefox/Explorer/Opera... help?

    Hi,
I can't access 95% of all the profile pages I try to view on Myspace. It starts loading and then I get the spinning beach ball. I did some experimenting, and I turned off Javascript on Safari and they started loading again, but I can't access a lot of features-- I couldn't even log into this discussion without Javascript!! I think my javascript is corrupted. Is there a way to replace my javascript thingy? I'm really upset about this. My software is all up to date, as are my permissions. Any advice would be helpful.
    ~Patrick

Same here. Permissions repaired, PlugIns removed and reinstalled one after another (InputManagers: Chax, Menu Extra Enabler, PicLens, SafariBlock, SafariPlus, SIMBL), reinstalled flash, DivX, Flip4Mac, Perian. All up to date. But whatever I do, I can't access (most of the sites of) MySpace, YouTube, etc.! No difference whether I use Safari, FireFox or Opera: The processor speeds up to 100% and the beach-ball goes spinning round and round and… The only (but radical) solution than is pressing the power-button! I had this problem with Safari 2, I have it with Safari 3, and I definitely don't know what to do! Hoped with every update, but…
I don't know if that's a problem with flash or JavaScript or something completely different, but I can't see why Apple does not get that fixed! I mean, I'm really not the only one being frustrated by surfing the web while more and more blogs integrate YouTube-Videos… That's no fun using a mac!

  • Cannot access System Profiler

When I press the apple logo > About this Mac, More Info is greyed out.
I read that this goes to the system profiler, which is located in utilities, but it isn't in my utilities folder (there's only Adobe flash player and a folder labeled Contents).
There is a file called systemprofiler.plist in my preferences though.
Is this something I should be worried about, or should I just let it go?
    Thanks!

It is normal to have systemprofiler.plist. If it isn't missing entirely, you may have inadvertently moved it. Get EasyFind and do a search for "System Profiler.app" to see where it might be located. Also enter "SystemProfiler" and make sure you're seeing SystemProfiler (a folder, not the app) in /System/Library. Don't go there, just confirm it exists at that location.
If it is completely missing, it can be reinstalled using Pacifist and the Install DVD.

  • Can't access System Preferences in Spaces

Quite frequently I find myself unable to access System Preferences.
I think it may be a Spaces issue and I think it may happen if I close the System Preferences window.
If I Option-Command-Esc, the window shows System Preferences is running. But force quitting System Preferences has no effect.
If I Command-Tab, I see System Preferences in the row of icons. However selecting this icon has no effect, the System Preferences window does not come to the front.
Of course I can't open Spaces to try to resolve the problem because it is a System Preference.
The only solution I have found is to Logout and log back in.

Oops, never mind. I have a Wacom tablet connected to my Mac, and turns out that the system prefs window was showing up on that screen instead of my main display.
For future reference, is there a way to delete a post such as my first one?
