Can't access the bookmarks backup file I created on my external harddrive from my desktop to restore on my laptop.

I created a firefox bookmarks backup file from my desktop computer on my external USB hard drive so that I could transfer them to my laptop. I go to "organize bookmarks" on my laptop, choose "restore", "choose file", navigate to the external drive. All the regular folders display, but the backup bookmarks file does not display. It's there when I open the drive in windows explorer. Why isn't it there in the restore bookmarks window?

How is your external drive formatted? Use Disk Utility to check the volume format. If it is NTFS, you will need to reformat the HDD as exFAT in order to retain universal compatibility (RW to it on both Mac and Windows).

  • Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310 - HELP

Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310.
I had a battery drain problem. The unit would only last 16 hours before completely drained. Purchased a new battery with the same result. I figured that I should try a complete reset so I did a hard wipe. Once that was done and I loaded the unit back up and returned online, the battery drain problem was resolved but now I can not access the media card.
     Here are the messages:
“A media card has been inserted that contains encrypted content which will be unaccessible by this device”
I can see the files. I have transferred them to my PC via the SD card but I can not open them. Here are the settings:
     Media card support – ON
Encryption Mode: - Security Password & Device
    Encrypt Media Files – YES
Mass Storage Mode Support – OFF
Please note – I can not change the encryption mode since it is set by policy
Security Options – General Settings – Content Protection – Disabled
The version of Desktop Manage I am using is 4.2.1.8. When I try to use the Media Manager to move the files, I get an error message and can’t move the file. If I access the file on the card and try to display it, I get:
     Unable to display file /media card/ pictures/ing000000xx.jpg.rem
Here is what I have tried (from the advice on this board):
     1)     Read the files directly off the media card – No good
    2)     Create a “new” folder on the media card and move a file into it then try to read it – No good
    3)     Email the file then read it – No good
    4)     Reset Encryption mode to off then try – Can’t do it – IT Policy setting
    5)     Be sure that the password was set the same as before the wipe (setting is password & device) – Can’t do it – The Blackberry prevents me from using an old password.
So I think I can’t read the files because I can’t replicate the encryption key. Could that be right? My problem is that I do not understand why this would be the case. It is still the same device and since it knows what the old password was (because it would prevent me from using it again), why would it not generate a key to access the files?
All I am trying to get off the card are pictures on my 6 year old … some are priceless. Can someone help me do this? One would think that this should not be this hard but from all the postings I have found, it seems that it is. And yes, shame on me for not moving the files before I did the reset (THAT will never happen again!) but this being unrecoverable is unconscionable given how many seem to find themselves in this situation.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Not sure why you couldn't see them using mass storage mode. Did you have the pics stored on your media card? Try going to media-menu-explore-media card-blackberry-pictures See what the extension is on your pics. If any have the extension such as .jpg.rem they are encrypted.

  • HT1766 how to restore older backups? I can only access the latest backup but I need the one before that.

How to restore older backups? I can only access the latest backup but I need the one before that.

You would only have that backup if you saved it somewhere.
Itunes only keeps the latest one.

  • Can't find the bookmarks backup/restore menu in the new version ..

I can't find the bookmarks backup/restore menu, or the organize bookmarks menu at all in your new version. For starters, couldn't even find the bookmark icon on the right hand side of the navigation bar as instructed in your instructions.

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in the bookmarks menu.

Open Time Machine to the date that you know the iPhoto Library is in the format you want and select and Restore it.

  • Can't Access Time Machine Backup Files After Reinstall

I just completed a clean reinstall of Mountain Lion. Obviously I've missed some important step(s). When I enter Time Machine, I can see that there are older back ups by the dates on the right hand side of the screen, but they are greyed out. I'm confident the files are there, the issue is being able to access the files.
I've seen some notes about "reassociating Time Machine" with my "new" computer with some terminal commands, but I get lost with the instructions I've read and it sounds like if I do it wrong there is a pretty good chance I could really cause some damage. For the time being, I've turned off TM, but the dirve is still mounted and available.
For some reason, I was able to access and resotre my Documents folder - I just can't get into all the folders/files. Prior to the reinstall, I did visually confirm that I could see and access all my backup files.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • I can only access the itunes library if i plug in my external hard drive.  is there a way to add the music to my internal hard drive?

i can only access my itunes library if i plug in my external hard drive.  how do i find where the itunes songs are on my external hard drive and how do i move them to my computers internal hard drive so i no longer have to have the external hard drive plugged in?

When the drive is connected, use the Organize Library command in iTunes. If the entire library is located there, drag it to the internal drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

  • I can't access the internet with IE 11 on my PC so I would like to download Firefox on my laptop and install it on my PC. I've been using Firefox on my laptop.

I use Mozilla Firefox on my laptop and would like to install it on my PC because Internet Explorer 11 stopped working. I can't access the internet so I downloaded the Firefox setup on my laptop and saved it to run on my PC. It initializes, but can't connect to the internet to retrieve the program. How can I get around this and install your browser?

Download one of these installers: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If you machine can't connect to the internet to even download that though, you may have other problems (Using Firefox rather than IE is always a good choice though ;)

  • Can anyone access time machine backup files by connecting to time capsule by ethernet cable?

I operate an imac connected to a time capsule. It works great. My internet is connected to the time capsule with an ethernet cable and I access the internet on my imac using an ethernet cable connected to the time capsule. I can also connect to the time capsule using wireless.
A colleague of mine wants to connect to the internet and because of location issues the only convenient way is to let him connect to my time capsule using an ethernet cable. He can access the internet fine and he uses a windows PC. Now my question is, will he be able to access my time machine backup files if he connects to my time capsule using an ethernet cable? I have not given him my password.
Any help will be appreciated. I want to help him get online but I want to make sure he cannot access my time machine backup files.
    Thanks

There are actually 3 passwords on the Time Capsule - assuming it has the same setup as my Airport Extreme Base Station.
One password for the WiFi connection.
One password to access setup of the device
One password for access to the storage drive - most people leave the check-box to just use the base-station setup password again.
And, as I said before, you also have the option to encrypt your TM backups.  So even if somebody runs off with the device and breaks in to the disk, it will all be garbage without the TM password.
This is the screen as it is on my computer:
As you can see, to access my drive I have it set to use the device setup password.
Here is a screen shot of the other options:

  • Can I access my iMac backup file on my Time Capsule with Time Machine from my Powerbook G4?

I've got a 1.5 Ghz PowerPc Powerbook G4. My iMac Intel was recently stolen, however I still have the Time Capsule it continually backed up to. The Powerbook is running Leopard and has the Time Machine app. Does anyone know how I can (somehow) connect with my Powerbook to the Time Capsule left behind to transfer some documents off of it to my Powerbook even though it is not the Powerbook's designated backup server (drive)? Realize that my Powerbook already can access files from the Time Capsule but not the iMac backup. What I'm interested in is going into my iMac's backup file by using Time Machine on my Powerbook to grab some files from the iMac's history. Can this be done?If so, let me know.

If you mount the sparse bundle via finder. Then you can open it in the Time Machine display.. it might be difficult between versions..

Sorry to hear you iMac was stolen.. not the sort of thing that would be normally taken.

  • I can't export my bookmarks because I can't access the bookmarks icon on the address bar. It is hidden so I can't get to the library where it shows the export

The export process described in the help section works fine on older versions of Firefox and I have used this when I ran Windows XP, but now I'm on W7 and my browser does not display the bookmarks option to export bookmarks to an HTML file. How do I get to this utility?

    One other thought:
Some users have reported that their Bookmarks drop-down button disappeared after upgrading Firefox. You can reset your toolbar buttons using the Customize feature and see whether that helps restore it. See: [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]].

  • How can I use the iCloud backup files?

Recently I lost my passcode and I had to reset my iPhone. Some of my data is on iCloud but I don't know how to use my camera roll again in my Photos. All I want is to know how can I store my pictures and videos from iCloud to my Photos.

Your camera roll is included in your device backup by default, unless you excluded it in settings.  However, you can't view the photos and videos (or anything else) in the backup; you can only restore it to your device.  Later this fall, iCloud Photo Library will be introduced along with iOS 8.  At that time, you can start storing and accessing your photos and videos in iCloud (see https://www.apple.com/icloud/preview/).
If you want to store your camera roll, import it to your computer using your usb cable as explained here: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer.

  • How can I copy the iPhone backup files to another iTunes Library?

I'm changing to my Window laptop from a PC. I want to copy my iPhone backup to the Library in the laptop. How can I find those backup files? I don't want to lose my apps and everything, you know.

This article will tell you where your iPhone backup is stored on your computer:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946 iTunes content is NOT part of the iPhone backup. You can either copy your iTunes library to your new computer, or you can re-download your purchased iTunes content(except ringtones) to your new computer; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527

  • How can I find the iphone backup files

I recently moved my iTunes files to an external hard drive and wiped my PC.  In the meantime I had to replace my iPhone.  Now I don't know how to restore all the apps, pics, etc to my new iPhone!  Help!

The location of the backup file is :
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
So it isn't in the iTunes directory, so you may not have copied it - if you did then copy it back to the same location on your computer.
If you copied the iTunes directory then you should have copies of your apps (though not their content) in a folder called Mobile Applications, if not then you can re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
