Can't activate iphone after 7.1.2 update
After i have installed iOS 7.1.2 (updated from 4.1.2) my phone says Searching for carrier while there is no valid sim installed in it, and then when i connect it to itunes to activate it the itunes pops up a message saying, "
There is a problem with your iPhone.
Please visit the Service Answer Center to find answers to all your questions about service options, warranty and other processes in your country.
To find your nearest Apple Store, click here."
What should i do? it was working before the update now after update it doesn't..
I am the original owner of the phone, bought it when it was released in Romania from Orange (career) but i don't get it this never happened when i had the older device's from apple this is the first time i occure such problems. any idea what should i do? It says searching for career even if i insert the sim card it came with the device it doesn't fix it

Hi,
Earlier today I upgraded to IOs 7. Aftr that I erased the iphone from find my iphone (I have backup in the cloud).
After turning on again, it requests: language, then country, then WiFi (no option for SIM code) and then it gives the message: "it make take a few..." but it never activates.
I am in UK but my SIM is from Spain... is that the problem why I can't activate it?
thanks,It might be. If you were on AT&T in the U.S. you could only re-activate the device in the U.S. on their network. Contact your carrier in Spain and ask them.

Can't activate iphone after restore.
I'm facing problem with "SIM invalid / No service" issue and my carrier advised to restore the OS. I did it as per Apple instruction at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4148 and later having problem to activate the phone. Btw, i'm still having the "No service" issue during the activation.

Their is no exact fix for this because I have only ever seen this issue 3 times and what it is best to do is connect to your computer and restore and set it up as a new phone then restore from backed up data. This is the only advice I can offer as this issue is so rare no one has one exact answer for it

Can't activate iphone after stupid botched unlock
So, someone who shall remain nameless (no, not me but a relative) decided that they'd try to do an unlock on their iphone from overseas through one of those scummy unlock websites. After it didn't go well, he then tried to do a restore and now the phone is stuck. It won't activate at all. I'm not really an Apple person except for an old iPod that I used to use so I don't really know where to start.
Is there any hope of restoring this or is all lost? Any advice except for "stay away from online unlock sites." At this point, not trying to use it with any carrier, just wanted to be able to use wifi, camera, etc.
By the way, the iPhone 5 is out of Japan and the carrier was AU Kddi. I don't know what operating system it was using. If there are other details that would be helpful, please let me know and I'll try to find out.
Thanks!It might be. If you were on AT&T in the U.S. you could only re-activate the device in the U.S. on their network. Contact your carrier in Spain and ask them.

I just updated my iPhone 3GS iOS to 6.0.1 and it says could not activate your iPhone with the message
"Your iPhone could not be activatedbecause the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes.
Please help me to fix the issue.

Disable your antivirus and firewall.
If that doesn't fix it either the phone was jailbroken or hacked, or the computer you are using was used to hack or jailbreak some other iDevice. -
Hi, face issue that can not activate iPhone but can log in iCloud web page with same Apple ID and Password after iPhone been update to IOS 8.1.2
Also in the iCloud 'Find my iPhone" , no Device been found.

before i do updates for my iphone (to 5.0.1) i close my SIM card, i can not complete the update proccess becouse SIM is closed also i can not activate iPhone becouse the SIM must be opened. when i try to open it , the networks does not appear (no service).
Its a serious problem and many people are facing the same issue on both locked and factory unlocked phones.
I wonder when Apple will address to this issue. After all it is losing all its reputation!

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.

You cannot do anything without a sim for the carrier the iPhone is locked to. With that you can attempt to restore using the recovery mode described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 but note that if the previous owner installed an Apple ID and password and turned on Settings > iCloud > Find My Phone, you will never get it to work without the Apple ID and password. That is the Activation Lock, an anti-theft protection system.
