Can't activate iPhone because Apple ID is locked 'for security reasons', can't reset Apple ID because need iPhone to receive two-step activate code!

So here's an interesting one...
I have just updated iOS on my iPhone and it came up with the activation prompt. I entered my iCloud email and password and it told me that my account was disabled for security purposes.
This happens quite regularly as my iCloud account and I constantly get the account locked out as other people mistake it for their account.
The procedure to unlock my account is to visit iforgot.apple.com and select the 'Reset your password' option, enter my iCloud email address, two-step recovery key and then nominate my iPhone to receive a two-step authentication code.
The problem is my phone won't receive the authentication code because it needs activation! My iPad is also listed but also won't receive the authentication code, I expect because my Apple ID is disabled!
Having read the support article regarding what to do when you can't receive the two-step authentication code it says login to your apple id account and manage the list of devices! You what!? I can't login because my account is disabled.
It seems there is a complete design flaw here in that I can't activate my phone without unlocking my Apple ID and I can't unlock my Apple ID without activating my iPhone first!
I've spoken to Apple in the past about this and their response was to login and manage my devices and I pointed out that I could not login in because my account is disabled. They then basically said there is nothing I can do! Really? They won't unlock my Apple ID because they don't have the ability to do so.
If I'm not mistaken my iPhone is no longer fit for propose and if I can't sort this I will be visiting the Apple store and asking for a replacement as basically my device is bricked. I guess I will have to create a new Apple ID and will no longer be able to get to my email on the old account!?
Any folks on here has similar issues or any suggestions?

I have something similar going on, but not exact.  I basically have a useless phone here because I restored the phone but supposedly when my son's father redid the phone years ago for our son he added the phone to HIS apple id (on find my phoen supposedly) which he no longer has nor uses.  I need said apple id and pass to finish restoring the phone.  Maybe we should all get together and pile all our bricks in front of apple headquarters so no one can get out of the building and they have to stay there until they fix this.  :-P

  • Apple ID is *disabled for security reasons*, I know the username and password, but don't know the Security Questions and Recovery Email? Help!

I used to have the @apple.com apple ID. Everything was working fine, but then one day I entered my password and it was incorrect. I tried to reset it but nothing was working. Then I tried to "forgot my Apple ID" on iForgot and found that it was automatically changed to @mac.com. I entered my Apple ID and Password but then it gave me "your Apple ID is locked for security reasons". I tried resetting my password but I don't think I had put any recovery email and apparently I entered a wrong Date of Birth.
What should I do to re-access my Apple ID?
    Many thanks!

    Thank you randers4,
I just got off the phone with apple.
I have to call 800-MY-APPLE and try to verify my Apple ID using my old password and a serial number from a device on which I used my Apple ID. Oh and @apple.com never existed, I have no idea how it got on my phone :|
    Hope it works

  • Why is my Apple ID being locked out every time I go to use it?  I haven't even attempted to log in for about 4 or 5 days, but today on my first attempt to do so, it said my account had been locked for security reasons.  This is the third time.

I only sign in to iTunes' store about once a week or so.  But during each of my last 3 attempts (on different days, several days apart) on my first attempt to enter my password and hit submit, I am immediately told that my Apple account has been locked for security reasons and it wants to take me to a page to reset my 'forgotten' password.  I am using the CORRECT password.
Perhaps someone else is trying to break into my account or is mis-entering theirs but my account should not be getting locked like this.  It is very frustrating to have to go through the reset password procedure each and every time I want to go into the store.  It seems to me that Apple really doesn't want me to buy any more apps from them as they keep refusing me entry into my own account, each and every time I have tried to use it, for the past few weeks.  I am not their best customer, but they aren't giving me much of a welcome invitation to become one, if I'm going to be treated like this.
I just bought my iPhone 4 less than 2 months ago.  I paid extra money to upgrade early, just to get this phone because it was so highly recommended by everyone I spoke with in different stores (BestBuy and Verizon).  I even bought the 2 year upgrade to my Apple services in case I needed to ever call them, and so far I haven't had to, yet.  But I definitely will call them if this isn't straightened out.
It looks like this other user could be tracked and an email could be sent to them from Apple to let them know what they are doing - trying to sign into the wrong account, and are locking somebody else out of their own account because of their error....and to remind them of their correct information or how to get it and to write it down or save it somewhere so they don't keep on doing this.
I have seen literally DOZENS of other people in these discussions with exactly the same issue that I'm having so it is NOT an isolated incident, and it seems to be a growing problem as Apple's sales and user base continues to grow, so this problem is seriously needing to be addressed in some way, and soon, before they start losing new customers because of it.  If I was still within my original 14 day return period with this phone, I would definitely be returning it and buying an Android model because of how frustrating this is to me.  If my bank was doing this to me, I'd have already switched banks by now if they hadn't fixed it - just to give an example of how I feel about this.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

When I chose to do this by the security answers, it's not work again, because does not accept my birth date. Can you please somebody help with this issue? Thanks in advance

If you have a rescue email address on your account then you've checked the inbox and spam folder on that account as well, and you've tried requesting the email again ? If you still can't find it then try contacting Support in your country and see if they can reset it for you.

You will want to reset the password for that account. (use iForgot (iforgot.apple.com) to reset your account)

  • Update so that all apps are registered to my current apple ID from an email that is no longer valid. When I try and log into the old Apple ID I am told it has been 'locked for security reasons'

I have a very old apple ID that was used to install some of my first apps that I still use today such as Whats App. I cannot install updates for these apps because my apple ID is no longer operational and when I try and reset this apple ID I get an error message saying this apple ID has been blocked for security reasons. NB. I cannot reset using email verification as the email doesnt exist anymore and when I tried inputing my security questions I couldn't get past my birth questions and then got "you have too many failed attempts at verification...so this apple ID has been blocked".

The old Apple ID apps cannot be transferred to the new ID so you would be best to delete and download new.
For lockout issues with the Apple ID contact the store support staff at http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

  • My Apple ID has been locked for security reasons 7 times in the last two days.

Since this past Sunday, I have had to go to the iforgot.apple.com site and unlock my apple ID at least 8 times. I didn't initiate a password change, nor did I unsuccessfully log in to anything. I found out because my daughter would bring me the iPad and on it a dialog box popped up for me to log into the iTunes store. Putting in my password didn't work. I haven't gotten any emails letting me know it's been locked. I only reveive an email when I unlock it.
I know that my Apple ID is a simple one, and one that other people often mistakenly think is theirs. I've gotten loads of emails over the years meant for other people.  I've had my Apple ID (and associated email) since Steve Jobs first announved the @mac.com addresses via iTools.  I don't want to change or lose it for sentimental reasons as well as practical.
I've tried to call Apple about this and so far haven't gotten anywhere. I set up two factor authentication about two weeks ago. At that point, the emails for password resets stopped and all seemed great until two days ago.
I've searched the support forums and so far have encountered others having the same issue, but no resolutions. So, I am mostly posting just to make sure Apple knows it's still happening.
    Thanks for

Thank you. I know you're all users and not official Apple tech support, but I also know that the results of these discussions make their way up to search engines, and that Apple has to be aware that the issues discussed here happen.
As for the link to contact the iTunes support, I have already used that. I have a "ticket number" in their system, and have signed up for Apple to call me tonight after work. I was on hold with them yesterday for about 40 minutes, but had to hang up when my children's doctor called (they are both sick).
I was just venting, in the hopes that my venting would find others in the same troubled spot and we could share our frustratons together.
Thanks for trying to help and for listening.

  • If I received a gifted app, how can I redownload it if my apple ID is disabled for security reasons?

My father n law gifted an app to me and I had an issue with an app that was purchased without my consent so I emailed iTunes support to see if I could get it refunded.   So now all my apps under my apple Iid don't work. Is there some way I can fix it?

Did you get a response from iTunes about the refund, did the ID become disabled after you emailed iTunes? Did you enter your password incorrectly too many times or do something that would cause the ID to be disabled?
    Take a look at this.

  • Why does my iphone keep telling me my apple account was disabled for security reasons?

First it was when trying to sign in to icloud, now its also when signing into App store. I have tried following the prompts for changing my password at iforgot.com three times. It's still telling me my account has been disabled. How do I re-enable it?

You will have to contact iTunes support. Click support at the top of the forums and when the page opens, click on contact us on the bottom left.

  • "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons. Tap Reset to reset your account"

This message appeared several months ago when I attempted to update an app on my iPhone 4, I attempted to reset my password, however, it is telling me that I am answering the security questions incurrectly and when I click the option to reset the password by email it never sends me an email. Please do not give me the link to https://iforgot.apple.com/ following those instructions DOES NOT WORK. I have emailed Apple five times describing the situation and telling them that following the instructions on iforgot.apple.com does not help but everytime they send me an email back after several days telling me to go to iforgot.apple.com and follow the steps. I had to use my brother's itunes account just to post this. I searched all over the other threads but I did not find anything of any use, others have complained of the same problem but have not received any helpful advice. Please help me, this has been dragged out over several months and I need to download software on my Macbook Pro for work but cannot do so until I have access to my account again. Also I cannot update any apps on my phone, my wife is experiencing the same problem but on different devices so it is not something wrong with my phone and Macbook. I am incredibly disapointed in the customer service Apple has provided and if the problem is not resolved soon I will have to switch to another company, I love Apple products but I need to be able to update and download software. Thank you for any help you can give me!

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!
