Can't activate Office 2011 for mac (downloaded from office 365 portal)
Hello All,
I've installed Office 2011 for mac which was downloaded from office 365 Portal. However, during installation process there was not a windows for activation (key or sign in method).
Is there a way to force activation on Office 2011 for mac?
Note: I've deleted office 365 com.microsoft.office.plist but i didn't get a windows for activation.

Hi,
If you downloaded Office 2011 for Mac, you may not need a product key to activate it. Office 365 uses a new mechanism that the activation is based on your Office 365 Account instead of a product key.
Anyway, in this forum we mainly discuss questions and feedbacks about Office for Windows, as your question is about Office for Mac, I suggest you post the question in Office for Mac forum:

Spell Check Not Working on Office 2011 for Mac (Word) from Today!

Jumped on my Mac tonight to right a report in Word (2011 for Mac), been using this before Xmas and in years past other Office for Mac versions. Never any problems with the spell check before i.e. red wiggly line appears so you can review or amend as necessary, but no red line tonight!
I have being playing around with the settings > preferences > spelling - I leave the "Hide spelling errors in this document" unchecked, but still it dosent seem to work anymore.
I am the only person who uses my Mac and I haven't changed any settings so I can not understand why this is happening now.
If anyone can help, please do as I miss my reb wijgly anb mi speling is rudish without ip!

Import Outlook 2011 for MAC database from a security copy
After many years using Outlook for Windows, I bought a MAC Book Pro and Outlook 2011 for MAC. I use it for mail, contacts, notes and calendar and yesterday I had a problem. Since then, when I click the Outlook icon what appear is the system completely void. Contacts, notes, schedules, mail folders, everything have disappeared. I have a security copy done on an external hard disk, where I find everything, but I don't know what must I do to recover the Outlook database. I would be very grateful for some help taking into account that I have minimal experience on iOS software.

I have spent at least 10 hours doing every imaginable fix recommended, and none of them have the least bit of effect on this problem. Unbelievably frustrating, "certificate errors" and can't get to the Office 365 portal, and can't set up
Outlook. MS didn't put an automatic restore point on my computer before doing the 8.1 upgrade, so I'm screwed there. Dead in the water, this Surface tablet is a doorstop at this point. Swear word.Looked at the system log (don't know how to attach it here, so text below, removed our network info, SIDs, etc), and it seems the problem is that the computer can't reach the domain controller, which means the clock isn't synched, so even though the
"system time" on my desktop is right, it's screwing around with the certificates (I think). When I did the update to 8.1, I unjoined from the domain, (because my domain has a WSUS) then rejoined after the 8.1 update was done (it's my only Win8 computer).
Please don't tell me to "add as a trusted site", etc., because after 15 hours of troubleshooting, believe me, I've done everything, including trying to uninstall IE11 (you can't in Windows 8.1, you can only "disable", then "re-enable",
which does nothing). Thanks.

Edit in Pages for Mac - Download from iCloud in Word format
Does anyone know if the following is a documented limitation?
Create a Pages document in Pages for iPad.
Log in to iCloud.com using Safari. You can download the document as a Word document. (Click on the document > click on the Download button > select "Word".)
Open the document in Pages for Mac.
Modify anything in the text and then Save the file.
Log in to iCloud.com using Safari. You can no longer download the document as a Word document. You can only download it as a Pages document.
(Steps 1 and 2 are not necessary to reproduce the problem. The limitation is there with a new dcument from Pages for Mac as well.)
Does anyone know if there is any easy work around or fix?
The quickest one I can think of is to open the document in Pages for Mac again and then export to Word. This is of course impossible if you are at a location where you do not have Pages for Mac.Hi Barry,
I think we have not understood each other.
Step 3 is not opening a completely "foreign" document. It is opening a Pages document created by Pages on the iPad. But ok, let's call it "slightly foreign", as the formats between the Mac and iPad versions clearly are not identical.
I do not get what you mean by "first time". What I would like to do is to edit a file freely on iPad and Mac back and forth to my heart's content several times. That I can do. In the end, once I am done with the file, I would like to export it to Word from iCloud using Safari or another browser. That I cannot do.
This export would mean I can open the file on a Mac without Pages or on a Windows PC. It would also mean that I can have files on the iCloud, editable from iPad or Mac, but only accessed from Windows, when I sit at the PC and discover the need to get the latest version.
That export works fine for documents I create with Pages for iPad, but as soon as I touch them with Pages for Mac, they can no longer be exported to Word from Safari.

You must be using an update CD. You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol

Can I load Microsoft Office Word 2011 for MAC on an IPAD 2? If yes, then how? I have the software and one more load opportunity left.
Reason that I ask is that I'm worried that I will not be able to read or work word or excel docs that people send me.No. Office 2011 for Mac is coded to run with OS X. In order to work on the iPad the app must be coded for iOS instead.
If you look in the iTunes App Store, you will find that there are many apps that allow you to work with Office files on an iPad.

When I installed the recent updates for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, my iCal calendar was wiped out, as was the calendar on my iPhone. I'd rather use iCal than Office and was attempting to phase Office out altogether. Now, all of my information is on the Office calendar but not iCal. The iCloud version of my iCal calendar is not up to date. In any event, I couldn't figure out how to send that info to the iCal on my mac or my phone. How can I sync my Office calendar info to iCal? If that's not possible, how can I get my Office calendar to sync with my iPhone? All of my sync services are set up in iTunes and on my phone. This happened to me once before and I spent hours on the phone with Apple and on the web trying to work it out. I NEED MY CALENDAR!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

The other concern I have is that Office 2011 requires an Intel-based Mac and you posted in the older iMac (pre-Intel or "PPC") forums. If you have an Intel-based iMac (Apple menu > About this Mac..." will say "Intel" if you do) then I think you'll get faster and more accurate ansers to other questiosn in the Apple forums for newer iMacs here:

Trying to install MS Office 2011 for Mac SP 2 (14.2.0) on my Macbook Air (Lion 10.7.3). I have to close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent but can not see how to do so. I have closed all applications. Can anyone help? Many thanks
Thanks Kurt! I had tried all that and had tried closing both programmes from the application monitor, but SyncServices Agent refused to close. I tried closing Launchd which is their mother application, but that just caused the screen go go blank. In the end the two programmes let themselves be closed next time I tried the installation process so all was well. Thanks for your help!

How can I be able to use my Windows publisher files on my Mac computer, since Microsoft office 2011 for Mac doesn't have Publisher? What's most recommended software to use for this purpose?

Version 4.0 or newer of Libre Office can open and edit Publisher files, this is fairly new, you may not have noticed it yet,
I tested it last week for another OP, it works very well, so finally there is a Mac application that can replace Publisher.

Problems with Office 2011 for mac after upgrading to Mountain Lion
Office 2011 for mac worked fine with Lion on my MacBook Air. I had been having some problems with my computer freezing and crashing, so the folks at the Genius Bar wiped my computer clean and installed Mountain Lion for me.
I have full backups (Time Machine) from before the wipe on my external hard drive, but I was told not to restore from the backup, that I should drag and drop files instead. I was also told to re-install any program for which I had the disk. I reinstalled Office 2011 via the disk.
Two major problems followed:
1. I lost all my old emails (I use Mail). Even rebuilding the library or trying to restore them from Time Machine don't get them back.
2. Word and Excel don't seem to recognize me anymore. I can pull up and modify an old document or workbook, but I cannot "save" my changes. I have to hit "save as." That's a pain, but there's a worse problem.
I have no trouble saving these "save as" versions to my desktop or to my Documents file. But I cannot save them anywhere else — even to the folder where I found the original document. I get a message that I don't have the necessary permissions to access or modify the folders. I'm asked to authenticate, and I do, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
I tried Get Info on the workbooks and documents, and I'm clearly granted Read and Write permission.
I've done a permissions repair via Disk Utility. There were some things to repair, but it didn't solve my problem.
I know I can move all documents to an external hard drive and then recreate all the folders, saving all the documents and workbooks "as" but it seems a huge amount of work. Can anybody suggest an easier route or how to get my email history?You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: 'resetpassword' (without the 's) and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
