Can't add a printer in Print & Fax preference

I was having trouble with my printer resource for my HP Laserjet 6MP, which had been working fine until this week. In print preferences, I deleted the printer, and another one for good measure. When I went to add new printer, there were no printers to choose from. I reset the printer resource (many times!) restarted the computer (many times!) turned off and on the printer a few times, tried everything again, but still no printers to choose from.
I downloaded the printer resource from this website, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907and tried everything again, all the steps I tried before. Still no luck.
I think the Print & Fax preference might be trashed. How do I replace that?
I should add that I am not using the printer on a network, but directly from my USB. I am networked only through wifi to my internet modem. I know 10.6.8 sometimes has network connectivity issues with printers, but I'm not sure that's the cause of this, as I have been on 10.6.8 for awhile.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.

However, in System Preferences I can’t “add” the printer to the print queue because I don’t have a driver and you have to select a driver before the add button becomes active. Therefore, the Mountain Lion software update doesn’t add driver software for the CP 1215 driver because I was unable to add the printer to the print queue.

You could try the 1515 driver or use the Generic PostScript Printer PPD when adding the printer.

With most multi-function devices, you need to run the printer manufacturer's setup/configuring program first. That will either "Add" the printer directly, or make it discoverable in the "Add-a-Printer" window. Look around, you probably downloaded that program when you downloaded the Driver.

Managed Printers Don't Appear in Printer & Fax Preference Pane

Something curious to ponder. I've had this issue for a while now (though it's not a huge problem), where I have a managed Mac (managed via Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) that doesn't display the printers that have been added to a computer list via Workgroup Manager in the Mac's Printer & Fax preference pane. The printers do appear in CUPS (127.0.0.1:631), and the computer prints fine to the available printers, but they just don't appear in the preference pane. I've attached some screen shots for clarification.

What happens if you start some type of sharing on the "problem" computer - iTunes Library sharing, File Sharing, or Screen Sharing - can the other 3 see what has been shared?

"Print & Fax" preference pane is GONE!!!

I have been having trouble printing to my USB connected printer on my Imac from my G4 powerbook.
In looking into the problem, I have noticed that the "print & fax" preference pane in System Preferences is missing on both computers. I have a strange feeling that this is why my wireless shared printed has ceased.
Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way to get the Print & Fax pane back??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok...I tried your suggestions below, but upon restart, the preference pane STILL is not shown in System Preferences. I checked in the HD/System/Library/PreferencePane folder and I don't even see the Print & Fax prefPane listed among all the others...
Any other suggestions??

Log out/in or restart and try the Print & Fax
Preference Pane.

Can't Add New Printer

In the Print & Fax section of my system preferences it used to show my USB printer. But then, for some reason, it disappeared. Now when I click the add printer button, I can see my printer under the default printers tab, however, when I click to add my printer it asks for a password of someone in the "lpadmin" group. My administrator password does not work for this.
If anyone has any ideas at all, they would be much appreciated.

Can not add a printer

I am trying to add a networked HP 3600dn to my MacBookPro8,1 running 10.6.8.
I set it up in the add printer box via IP > HP Jetdirect - Socket using the IP address. It is recognized and has the drivers, but when I click add, it drops the the box that says it's determining the installable options, and it immidiately pops back up. The printer isn't added at that point. I can click it over and over with the same results. I have rebooted and I have zapped the PRAM. Other users can add the printer without issue, and I can add other printers to this machine without issue.
Any clues as to what could possibly be causing this problem?

Don't know if this helps but below is the solution I found for my 3600 printing from Snow on one machine and Mountain Lion on the other:
Ok folks. After 4 days of frustration I finally found a wonderful lady at HP mac support who knew her stuff. If you are having problems connecting to your HP Laserjet (I have an HP Laserjet 3600. I'm told this solution will work for any "older" Laserjet models also) via your network after installing the newest drivers. Here is the solution that worked for me:
1. Shut down your printer
2. Connect directly with a USB cable.
3. Turn on the printer and then select the USB printer in the Print and Fax dialogue.
4. Print one sheet with the USB.
5. Now install the Bonjour, IPP and or HP socket option
6. Test print and you are finished
Now the drivers can find the printer over your network. So far no failures. Oh yeah, don't forget to reserve the IP address for your LaserJet via Airport Extreme:)
Hope this helps a few of you who have experienced similar issues.

I am trying to add a HP Officejet Pro x576dw MFP to my HP Probook 4530s . Laptop runs Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
When I use the add printer feature, the printer shows up. I select it, then hit next. The next step is to install the print drivers. BUT, my printer isn't listed. I have updated the list, but it still isn't on the list.

Can i add a print command to a button in InDesign?

I would like to create a button that will send the document to print.
I am creating an interactive PDF from InDesign CS5 (full screen view). it is a 50 page document with links and buttons.
I would like to be able to create a button which will send the document to print.
I know the commnd/ctrl P does the job, but my client insists (long story).
...and while we're at it: is there a way to "PRINT THIS PAGE ONLY" too?

Regarding the final PDF you produce with the Print button; when the user hits the Print button the usual printer dialogue box is launched and s/he can select which pages he wants to print and the number of copies. I think this is what you said this is what your customer wants.
Note: when you add the Print button, within the Acrobat Forms facility, you then go to Button Properties dialogue box and select Actions, select the trigger (i.e. On Mouse Down); Add an Execute a menu Item, click on Add and select File > Print from the drop-down list. A bit complicated to explain here, but easier enough if you have a play around with it. Acrobat Forms are a wonderful facility – well worth exploring the many things you can do with them. Especially if you set up your document first in InDesign!

I am new to KM.
I have some doubts:
1.       I want to develop custom News Component, Discussion Group & Discussions etc.. What perspective I should use? I mean, is it PDK? Or is there something else?
2.       In a standard KM iView (for ex: in a news iView), can I add a link called print (say) to print the whole content in the iView? Or should I have to make a custom development for that.
            Please tell me what I should refer to. Any classes like IRoom, IDisscussionGroup etc..????

Can't open print & fax preferences, can't print

I know I've read about this problem before, but I can't seem to find the thread. I'm a total novice when it comes to terminal, but I don't even know where to start. Whenever I try to print, or even open print & fax, I just get the spinning wheel. I'm using Leopard on a 17" MBP, and I'm set up on a network with several printers (I can't even open the individual printers...everything related to printers or printing just freezes!!)
Any help is much appreciated!

Open up Console.app and see if there are any messages that repeat regarding the crashes.
How much free space do you have on the disk?

I couldn't find anything like "Reset Printing System," but you can view the error logs (which you can do from Console.app), and edit the Configuration file. There is a button to use the Default configuration, but I don't know what that will accomplish. Might be the last ditch effort before reinstall.
EDIT: From About the Reset Printing System feature:
What does Reset Printing System do?
Deletes all printer queues and jobs.
Resets all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files.
Performs a permissions check on the /tmp directory.
1) Can do that from CUPS interface
2) Noted above
3) They should be rwxr-xr-x root:admin
