Can't add attachments in mail

I don't seem to be able to add attachments to an outgoing email. I have tried using both the menu command and the toolbar. In both cases, the computer goes through all the right steps - asks me to choose a file, and opens the browser window so that I can do so. I select my file but no attachment. Conversely I have no problem sending photos from iphoto by going directly through iPhoto and selecting "send email"
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Sue

Hi cachesk, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Can't add attachments in Mail (6.5) in 10.8.4

I can not add anything in the body of my mail messages. It has been this way for a while; I don't think it started with an upgrade to 10.8.4.
    Very frustrating. Any clues? TIA

    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

How can I add an e-mail address to my existing icloud account?  I curently only use one of the three.

Each iCloud account only has a single iCloud account.  If you want, you can add up to 3 alias addresses that will receive email in the same iCloud inbox, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

How can I add a "junk mail" mailbox, or any other mailbox to my email?

If you have an IMAP email account then you can create additional folders by logging into your email account on a browser and creating them there - they should then appear in the Mail. If you have a POP email account then you're stuck with the folders that you've got.

I can't add attachments to my Hotmail... using Safari.....

This probably is known with older versions of Silverlight, but from what I remember Silverlight only runs on Intel Macs.  PPC indicates PowerPC.  Are you sure you have a PowerPC Mac?  Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac.

  • Can't send attachments in mail since upgrading

    Hi-
Since upgrading, I can't send attachements in Mail.  The filenames appear all grayed out and they can't be highlighted.  In order to attach, I have to open through Finder and drag over into Mail.
    What gives?
    s

Usability and interface issues with Gmail aside, I did figure something out. (I don't really use Gmail, it just seemed like a good at the time when I was setting up an account for a friend so I could help out with issues.)
I couldn't add attachments to a new message either. In fact, when I clicked the link to add an attachment, the link disappeared. I discarded the message, opened a new one, click the add attachment link, and the link disappeared again.
Turning off the blocking of pop-up windows didn't change the outcome.
So I opened a new message and looked around.
I noticed a little icon in the upper right of the message, just above the To: field, a sort of double square with an arrow in it. It looked almost like icon used on Windows to indicate maximizing the window for full screen, except it had an arrow that looked like the "Forward" arrow when you want to forward a message instead of replying. No tool tip came up so I decided to try it.
This made the message disappear, and popped open a new smaller window which eventually loaded the message. Looked about the same as before but without the rest of Gmail. Curiously, the add attachments link actually worked, without disappearing. A dialog popped open (looked like from the OS, not a browser window) and I was able to select a file. It appeared listed below the subject and above the message, with a progress indicator that took several seconds (half a minute?) before any progress happened. It did eventually get started and completed the upload.

How can I add iCloud account to mail without it choosing mobile me?

Please always state your operating system when you have a question. Presumably you have Snow Leopard or Leopard - system too old to have heard of iCloud.
Please follow the steps outlined in this illustrated article:

  • Mail 3.6 Checking Yahoo Mail - Can I Add Junk E-Mail To My Yahoo Spam List?

    Evening all.
I use Mail 3.6 to check all my e-mail accounts, including Yahoo mail. When I receive spam e-mail to my Yahoo account, I can add it to my spam list, but only for Mac mail and not my Yahoo spam list. Obviously the beauty of the Yahoo list is that I don't ever see spam from that address ever again (I have it set to delete immediately). Can I do this through Mail?
    Many thanks,
    J

Necessity being the Mother of invention, I built a crude work-around and fixed half of the problem. I'd still be interested to hear if any of you have 'solved' the other half.
First half fix: On the mail.yahoo.com site, go to the Sent folders and select all of the messages there. Then, in the header, click on the "Move..." button and then select the "Inbox" as the destination. (N.B. This can not be undone; You can move messages from the Inbox to other folders, but not to your Sent folder. Go figure.) The next time you synch (or "Get Mail") from the Mac's Mail app, these "sent" messages will appear in your Inbox. Sort the Inbox by sender and move the messages sent by you to your "Sent" mailbox folder.
Now you've got a complete history of emails, both sent and received, on your Mac.
Second problem not fixed: Messages sent from the Mail app do not appear in the "Sent" folder on mail.yahoo website. So while your Inbox is synchronized between your Mac and your yahoo! account, your Sent items are not.
I was hoping that synching my Mac Mail with .Mac would allow me to see my sent messages remotely, from any internet browser. But at first blush, that dog don't hunt.
Any advice - short of a wholesale move to my @mac.com email - would be appreciated greatly. Even if the advice is "give up the ghost; can't be done; give up the yahoo email"!
    Cheers.
    -David

  • Can I add folders to mail on the iPAD?

Just loaded 4.2.1 on my ipad. The mail only has in,sent and trash boxes. Can I add other boxes or folders to be able to sort my mail as I do on my mac.

I do not think so. You could not with iOS 3.2.2 and I do not think that changed and can't find any way to do it in the revised Users Guide. However, if it is an IMAP account a lot of times if the folder exist on another computer or webmail they will appear on the iPad. That is not true for an POP3 account.

  • I can not add attachments to my assignments, usually a picture of a computer will come up and I can browse to find the file I need to attach, now either a black square or Java comes up, but I can not get to my files. Help!

I need to know how to fix my add attachments, it has quit working.

Your user agent seems to have been corrupted somehow.
You can check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page.
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website. Filter: general.useragent
If general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose Reset.

  • I can't send attachments with MAIL

Please help me. Since I have installed Leopard, I have problems to send attachments by mail. People to whom I send, they don't receive them.
Does anybody have any idea about to solve this trouble?
    Andrea from Italy

so you look in your Sent folder and the email with attachment is shown as sent, and you do not receive an error message on your computer.
then i would say it is purely a recipient error, and i am not sure how we can help on these pages not knowing what system they use or if on the web. do you have a friend to whom you can send an attachment that also uses a mac by any chance? does he/she receive the attachment fine, or no attachment either?
    hope this helps

  • I use hotmail as my email provider and I can't add attachments now since upgrading....what is wrong?

As I already said after I upgraded firefox I can no longer add attachments, photos etc. from my hotmail account.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.
