Can't add bookmarks. Reloaded, reset, uninstalled, etc. No luck.

I can't add new bookmarks to my bookmarks bar or sidebar. I've disabled all addons, password managers, plugins, etc. Also reinstalled firefox to no avail.

  • Can't add bookmarks, having tried resetting toolbars and uninstalling all bookmark-related add-ons.

The Help suggested the resetting of toolbars using safe mode, and I did that, and I still can't add bookmarks. I have never had any bookmark-related add-ons, and went through just to make sure. Any suggestions?

If Safari worked correctly in the other User Account, the remedy usually points to replacing a localized corrupted file in the affected User Account, rather than an Application install. The latter usually does not help.
Hopefully, you haven't trashed the existing Safari.app. Let me know if you have.
Perhaps the Safari preference file is at the root of the problem. Go to the Finder: navigate to HD>Users>Your User Account>Library>Preference file. There, move to the trash the com.apple.safari.plist file, then restart Safari. You'll need to reestablish any Safari preferences in either the Preference panel, or in the View and Edit (spelling) menus.

  • I've tried various resolutions and still can't add bookmarks when using Mozella. I used to be able to....this started about a month ago. can anyone help me?

I cannot add bookmarks. I have tried many resolutions, but still no results. I used to be able to bookmark, but now this doesn't happen. This happened after I refreshed my system.

Did you go to the Firefox profile folder and delete all places.* files or moved them to another location (folder)?
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
That will force Firefox to create a new places.sqlite database file and automatically import the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
I'm not sure if a reset would work properly in cases like this with possible file corruption, but you can give it a try if deleting places.sqlite didn't work.
If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).
You will lose extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you've made.
It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious to avoid carrying over the problem.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Can't add bookmarks anymore and issues with fix

    hi community
i need some expert help for i'm a newish mac user. i have a mac with os lion, safari 5.1.5
all of a sudden i can't add any bookmarks anymore using the plus sign next to url.  searched many websites which offer adequate solutions to fix but i cannot follow as folders/files can't seem to be found.  I even had trouble finding the safari folder as it don't exist under library-  may be clueless but i seem to have 2 folders for library: one under macintosh hd, the other under the system folder.  also can't find the bookmarks.plist file either using spotlight.  some sites say locate the com.apple.safari file, which seems to be missing in either cache folders, example of what is there is com.apple.components2.localcache.audiocomponents etc....
its frustrating especially when you find a good website to add to an already organised bookmarks folder.
NOTE- i did find safari folder via spotlight but within it was 2 folders of bookmarks and history and both don't have the bookmarks.plist file and only endless "webbookmarks..."

    Hi..
I even had trouble finding the safari folder as it don't exist under library-
The Safari app is stored in the Applications folder.
may be clueless but i seem to have 2 folders for library: one under macintosh hd, the other under the system folder
    There are two libraries.
    One is root /Library
The other is your user level   ~/Library   ~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
I believe the cache you are searching for is the Cache.db but that may not help the Bookmarks issue. This may be more of a corrupted preferences problem.
Click the Finder icon in your Dock. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly has you see it here:   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Navigate to a site you want to Bookmark then from the menu bar click Bookmarks > Add Bookmark
If that worked, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder.
Deny.. when you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed.

  • Can I add bookmarks "list" to home screen"

Can I add an icon  to my home screen which has "all" the bookmark web sites list, under the one icon?

The closest I could find is when you bookmark a website tap "add to home screen " when available.  Then put all those site's icon in a folder. I did notice however  not all sites wanted to go into the folder.

  • Can't add bookmarks - always sent to home screen.

I am having an odd issue with Safari. No matter which bookmark button I hit, "Add to Home" or "Add Bookmark", the option to add an icon to the home screen always comes up. I cannot add a bookmark to my bookmark list. I am running 3.1.2 and have had this issue since 3.0.
Does anyone know how to remedy this?

    1. Restart your phone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Reset your phone: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Can't add new GRUB entries thru /etc/grub.d/40_custom on MacBook Pro

I am using Arch Linux on my MacBook Pro. The main bootloader is rEFInd, which then loads GRUB (in EFI mode) which in turns loads Linux. Of course rEFInd can also load OS X directly, but I am experimenting because I need OS X to be loaded by GRUB: some buggy hardware requires "outb" commands before booting the OS, and loading OS X through GRUB seems like the most natural way of doing it.
I am using the automatic script in /boot/grub.d/ to generate the bootloader configuration, so I use the following commands:
    grub-mkconfig > /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    grub-mkstandalone -o boot.efi -d /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi -O x86_64-efi --compress=xz /boot/grub/grub.cfg
They generate a new configuration and to create a new EFI image, which is then copied on a blessed boot partition. I am sure that the changes I make to the configuration file are put into effect, because I can (for instance) modify the kernel parameters for the default image and see the modified entry on the GRUB menu.
Now I am trying to add a new configuration entry, the usual way would be by modifying /etc/grub.d/40_custom. I add the following lines:
    menuentry 'OS X (on /dev/sda2)' {
    insmod hfsplus
    insmod part_gpt
    set root='hd0,gpt2'
    chainloader /System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi
which are added correctly to /boot/grub/grub.cfg after I run grub-mkconfig as shown above. I also generate boot.efi as shown above, too, and I copy it on the boot partition.
However when I reboot I cannot see the new entry in the GRUB menu. Is there something I am overlooking? Is there some way of troubleshooting GRUB when it's reading the configuration file? I think it may not like the syntax of the new entry I added.

You should point grub-mkconfig to "your_efi_system_partition"/grub/grub.cfg instead of boot/grub/grub.cfg

  • Can't add Bookmarks & History is always cleared.

    Aloha.
With the recent switch to MobileMe, I was going to update my Dot Mac bookmark to reflect the new me.com URL. I made the change but it did not change in my bookmarks. Or if I add a new one, it will not show up in the Bookmarks Bar, even though it shows in the "Show All" window. If I close Safari, the new bookmark disappears. Also, Safari is not keeping my history. I have it set to clear history manually and all that shows is 5 days from back in May. If I try to clear it, they don't go away.
Any suggestions. I would prefer not to "RESET" Safari as I have a lot of user names and passwords that I don't really want to lose.
Mahalo in advance for any tips.
    Steve
    Kailua-Kona, HI

Turns out it was the ~\Library\Safari folder which holds the bookmarks and history data. For some reason I could not write to that folder. Trashed the folder, and with a mild surprise, all my bookmarks returned via the "magic" of MobileMe. Everything's working good now.

  • How can i add bookmarks from my old hard drive to new hard drive on the same computer without overwriting the new bookmarks on my new hardrive? Cheers

The old hard drive was operating on Xp and new hard drive is Windows 7, if this makes any difference.

Unfortunately there is no simple method and, the workaround is far from perfect. The .json files Firefox uses overwite the existing bookmarks but the .html option appends and does not overwrite.
First of all backup all bookmarks on each hard drive. The best method of doing that is to backup the Firefox profiles, that captures the bookmarks databases (''places.sqlite'') and the autobackups that Firefox holds.
    * [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
#First ensure you have the largest databsae on the current install of Firefox. If necessary
##Locate the Firefox Profile on the old drive
##* [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data]]
##Open Firefox and find the profile that is currently in use.
##*Quick method <br/>Use FirefoxButton -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information [Open Folder] <br />(No certain of exact wordings, OR navigate to ''about:support'' )
##* [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
#Now use HTML backups to transfer from the smaller database the basic bookmarks.
    ## Close Firefox & if the old database is the largest one use the Operating System copy option to overwrite the existing places.sqlite so that Firefox now uses the old database
    ## Reopen Firefox but this time open using the old profile. The easiest method of that may be to disable the new drive from the Bios or alternatively use Firefox profile manager and register the old profile location and open firefox with that profile
##* [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
    ## Export the bookmarks from the old profile using the Firefox Library and the HTML option.
##* see [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
    ## Close Firefox, reopen new version/newprofile and import the HTML.
You now have the largest database of complete bookmarks with tags etc. , plus additional bookmarks from the smaller database added on. Obviously you may have some duplication
