  • How can i "add file to library" and have it be considered to be a Podcast?

I went to a web site and downloaded a file to my C drive (MP3 format) that is not music. It is spoken, and is what i would call a 'Podcast', although i did not access it via iTunes as an official podcast. I then use iTunes "add file to library" function. But, it considers it to be music. I thought maybe drag/drop would work to let me add it to Podcasts, but it does not.
How can i get this file which i have imported into iTunes to be treated as a Podcast? First, i'd like it to appear on my iPod with 'Podcasts'. But, more importantly, if i stop listening in the middle, i'd like it to restart from that point the next time i start it again. Now, it is treated by the iPod like music, and so it starts at the beginning each time.
    Thanks for your help! Tom.

Is there a way that you can "subscribe" to something that is not in iTunes store? This is just a file on a site that is available for download.
If not -- does anybody else know if there is a way to do what the original question posed, to have a file that you downloaded, treated as a Podcast instead of as music?
    Thanks, tom.

  • Can not add files to library

I upgraded to IT7 and after i installed the latest version of Quicktime for a second time it finally worked. But now i can´t add new songs to my library. I use EAC to convert WAV to MP3 and I store them on my external harddrive. Does anyone encounter the same problems or has anyone a solution to this problem?? Thanx

Initially, I got an error message saying that the those componants (that import and burn cds) could not be installed due to a third party software. So I just clicked on iTunes set up and selected repair. The problem was fixed right away. Granted, my error messge told me to re-install iTunes. So try just running a repair from the set up instead of re-installation. Otherwise you might just end up re-installing the same problem.

  • Can't add file to library (no error, file can't be found)

    Hi All-
I hope I'm not asking a really stupid question. I have recently transfered my library to iTunes in my new Macbook (my first Mac), which went fine. Since then I have added some new music. Sometime between then and now (just a few days) something has happened to my iTunes.
Now, when I try to add a file to the library nothing happens. I select it and press choose and I get no error, nothing. The file isnt in iTunes after I add it. I have done a search for the files, I have restarted and tried again and still the files aren't added. I have gone into the files and made sure I have full permissions so thats not the problem. I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about! Thanks!

    iTunes 7.0.2 under OS X 10.3.9
I noticed that songs in various folders within itunes:Music did not appear anywhere in my library. Some appeared in various playlists. When set playing & command L, they are revealed as in a playlist.
Aha!, thought I, the database no loger syncs with the music folder/subfolders. Do as Apple advise & drag the whole music folder into the iTunes window. Many hundreds of such items lost to the library were then trwled through and various messages informed me that the library was being cleaned up.
Alas!, when I did a search of the libray, not a single further item has been added. Songs are still to be found in the playlists, but not in the Library.
    Any ideas, anyone?

  • An mp3 file on my computer will not import to itunes by either the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method.  Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  My OS is Windows 7.

I purchased an mp3 from a private website on my laptop.  The itunes library i sync ipod to is on my desktop, so i copied the mp3 onto a flash drive and then into my desktop in the Downloads folder and Desktop folder as well as the itunes music folder, 3 places.  I opened itunes on the desktop and read the instructions for importing music that's already in my computer.  Neither the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method works.  I've tried both ways over and over.  Cannot figure out what the problem is.  I do note that the name of the mp3 file doesn't show the .mp3 extension, it appears as simply it's title, Eating Healthy, without any extension at all.  Could the filename be the problem, or do you have any other idea what I'm doing wrong?  My OS is Windows 7, using IE9.  Thanks.
ADDENDUM AFTER READING ANOTHER DISCUSSION HERE:  I have now tried right clicking the song in Windows Explorer and choosing Open With, clicking itunes.  The mp3 plays in itunes but does not add to the library.

I don't have a Recently Added playlist.  However, I discovered that the file I had named Eating Healthy was given the name You Can Enjoy Eating Healthy when it copied to iTunes.  I'm guessing iTunes pulled the full name of the piece from the internet.  Upshot--the mp3 did transfer to iTunes on all 3 tries, but I was looking in my alphabetized list under E, not Y, so I didn't see it there.  Thanks for your help.

  • Can't add files to my iTunes library

Since the iTunes 11.0 update, I have had problems with my iTunes library.  That update deleted my whole podcast library.  I have been able to recreate most of it.  However, some of the podcasts were not available in iTunes store so I have downloaded them from the website.  Then I move the file to the correct folder  After downloading them, one of two things happen.  Either I get the message that the file cannot be found and asks if I want to iTunes to locate it.  In that case, I just click on the file and the podcast gets added.  However, if I add a new file to my library, nothing happens.  I click File>add file to library and nothing happens.  When I go back to the folder where I put the file, the file is gone.
How do I add the file?

I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

  • My computer has just prompted me to download the newest version of Itunes and now there doesn't seem to be any option to "add folder" to library, just "add file to library" so have to do one song at a time and is very time consuming!!  Help?!

My computer has prompted me to install the newest version of Itunes and now there doesn't appear to be any option to "add folder to library", only "add file to library" so have to do each song individually and very time consuming....help!  Anyone know if I can get this feature back?  Thanks so much, Charlotte

Use CTRL+B to put the top menu bar back on screen. Add File to Library and Add Folder to Library are both under File.

  • "File / Add File To Library" Not Working For Particular File

I believe I chose to delete a podcast. iTunes asked if I wanted to totally delete the file, or to leave it in a 'media file'. I didn't know what this meant so I chose to just leave it in a 'media file'. As expected, the podcast could no longer be seen in the iTunes Library / podcasts.
Later I performed: "File / Add File To Library" of that same podcast (ie. an .mp3 file). The file does not seem to be anywhere in the Library. I'm wondering if it is not added because it thinks it is in some "media file" which cannot be seen within iTunes? No error message was given saying the file was already there; however, when i attempt to add other podcasts from the same directory on my computer, iTunes has no problem adding other podcasts.
I've changed the directory to a different location on my harddrive, as well as changed the name of the podcast all to no avail. And spent 4 hours with this and am ready to pull my hair out.
I think iTunes will not add this file because it thinks it is already there, although from no where in iTunes can i find it (ie. not under 'music', not under 'podcast', etc.).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

"Won't add to library and doesn't give an error message" is usually a sign of minor corruption in the MP3 file. Treat it with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3val, and then it should be able to be added to your iTunes library.

  • Import = Add file to library??

Hi. I'm from French Canada, and it's my first time here.
I saw a topic similar to mine further in the list, about importing many tunes folders. I had to reboot my computer recently, and I realize I'll have to reimport it all. I understood that I can do the "add folder to library " command to avoid doing it manually.
But as a strong user of this command since the beginning, I noticed that the songs "added" where "killed" randomly, and regular what this phenomenon. I interpreted it as I must "import" instead to put it "for real" on Itunes, but this process doesn't deal with folders, which means a lot of time. Is that the truth?
If it is so, is the "export library" command a useful one in my strategy of being safe for the next reboot action?
    Thanks a lot.

There's a bug with recent versions of iTunes. Depending on your path length, you can only add 2 or 3 files at a time via the File -> Add File to Library menu option. If you add more, the dialog just closes without adding anything. Try adding the files 2 or 3 at a time...it's a pain, but it's the only thing that works right now.

  • Add file to library in version 7.0.2 (Workarounds)

I rip my cd's as mp3Pro format mp3 to save space without sacificing quality. These are stored on a music drive on my network, with a separate directory per album.
With ITunes 6 - I got them into the library by using the Add Files to library command with no issues. This command in ITunes 7 remains broken.
If I try to get a whole album into ITunes 7 using this menu command, nothing happens. However it isn't entirely broken. I have found that you can still use this command to bring music into the ITunes library - but only 4 tracks or less at a time? How crazy is that?
The only other workaround I have is to open Windows Explorer, select all the tracks and drag them across and drop on the music icon in Itunes. However please be warned, if you are not precise with your mouse dragging and dropping and don't drop exactly over the quaver(?) symbol, nothing will add into library.
These workarounds mey help, but they are about a user friendly as a corned rat! The oddity is that the command is only partially, not wholly, broken. Is this an Apple ploy to get Windows users to switch to Mac OS?
Anyone know a way to get the Add file to library menu command to add 5 or more tracks into ITunes?
    Dell XPS   Windows XP Pro

One thing that has been suggested is to create a temporary folder and copy your tracks into that, then you can use Add Folder to Library to add the contents of the temp folder to iTunes.

  • Add File to library option

With Cds I've burned on to my computer before putting into itunes, usually I use the option to add file to library and select all the songs in a music folder to import them on my ipod, but now it won't let me import mulitple songs at once onto itunes, is there a way to fix that?
Also is there a way to override music info for band name? For example, any band that technically starts with 'The' (i.e. The Killers) gets listed onto itunes and my ipod under the first letter of the second word (I.e. K for killers) and it doesn't look right since it doesn't look alphabetized, can I fix this or stuck with it?
      Windows XP

If you want to add multiple songs at once use the add folder option instead of add file.
I think you are stuck with the sorting order thing.

  • ITunes freezes when selecting "Add file to library" or "Add folder....

Not had a problem before and everything worked fine.
But this morning if I select "Add file to library" or "Add folder to library" nothing happens and itunes just freezes.
I can play music already in the library.
    Any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem. If I select the Add to Library option, the dialog box will open and then hang. I get the spinning wheel of death and nothing happens. I have to force quit and try again. It seems to have something to do with the sidebar menu list and I've noticed a slowing in other apps as it loads the sidebar in these dialog boxes.
