Can't add files to my iTunes library

Since the iTunes 11.0 update, I have had problems with my iTunes library.  That update deleted my whole podcast library.  I have been able to recreate most of it.  However, some of the podcasts were not available in iTunes store so I have downloaded them from the website.  Then I move the file to the correct folder  After downloading them, one of two things happen.  Either I get the message that the file cannot be found and asks if I want to iTunes to locate it.  In that case, I just click on the file and the podcast gets added.  However, if I add a new file to my library, nothing happens.  I click File>add file to library and nothing happens.  When I go back to the folder where I put the file, the file is gone.
How do I add the file?

  • ITunes 10.5.2 will not let me add files to my iTunes library. What do I do?

    Hello,
Ever since I downloaded iTunes 10.5.2, I have been unable to add music files to my iTunes library. Whenever I am browsing for the file and double-click it, I am immediately given the "This program has stopped working... Trying to find a solution to this problem." box.
    Any help is appreciated.

Of course not. Reinstall and if the Libraries are in the standard location in your computer (i.e. iTunes placed them and not you), it will immediately find the libraries. Just don't throw away the libraries. You can reinstall over the existing iTunes. BTW never forget to backup your computer.

  • A friend mailed me a flash drive with music on it from his pc...  mostly wma files.  How can I add these to my itunes library?

My friend created a BIG music file on his pc then saved it to a flash drive.  It is mostly wma files..  how can I add this to itunes library?

Install Flip4Mac's WM Components (from their download page), required to play WMA in QuickTime, the Finder's preview column, and many other applications -- but not iTunes!
Open your WMA file in QuickTime Player (Pro version required), then save as reference movie.
Drag the newly created .mov file onto iTunes. Now you can play it as you would any other song.
Some metadata is copied to the QuickTime file, and you can edit/add tags in iTunes. Remember to keep the original WMA files in place, as your reference .mov files still point to them. If you don't mind one more conversion step, you can then liberate your WMAs within iTunes. Select your WMA songs in iTunes, go to the Advanced Menu, click Convert selection to MP3/AAC, then enjoy your music on the iPod.

  • Can not add movies to the iTunes Library

I have an iMAC running iTunes 10.4 on s install of Lion.  I have had this problem with previous versions of OS/X and iTunes. I have the exact same problem on Windows.
I just can not import a movie to the library.  I've used File>Import as well as drag&drop. In both cases, nothing happens; no message of any kind, no progress bar, nothing.  The movie is not copied.  I have tried multiple file types (avi, mp4, mv4 etc) with the same problem.  I can import music fine. Just no movies.
One time, a couple days ago, I used the drag and drop and worked; I have no idea why; Trying to import the same movie results in the same 'nothing happens'.
Any thoughts/suggestions on how to get this working?  It is so annoying that there is absolutely no message of any kind popping up anywhere to indicate what the heck is going on.
I'm guessing it may be something to do with unsupported file types. But why no message, and why it did work just a couple of days ago?
    Thanks.

To address at least part of the problem, confirm is that the videos are in a format iTunes can accept and play. AVI is not one of them, for instance. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729?viewlocale=en_US
Note that there are non-standard formats that still use the .mp4 file extension. iTunes supports only industry-standard MPEG-4 movies, not the offshoots created by some encoders such as Microsoft's.
Why a movie that worked previously is not working now, though, I don't know. Just to confirm, will that movie play in QuickTime Player?
    Regards.

    Hello dear,
Just follow my lead and your problem would be solved in no time ..
1.Bring the file/video you want to import to iTunes on your desktop screen and make sure it's in .mp4 format.
2.Right click on the file/video and click on "Properties". and Uncheck "Read Only" option in the Bottom.
    3.Open iTunes and enable HomeSharing.
4.Now again right click on the file/video and chose "Open With" and choose iTunes as default (You can change the default later on).
5.iTunes will automatically pop-up and after some 10 secs, the video will begin.
6.Close the video, and you will notice that the video/file is now added in your library.
7.You could simply drag this file/video to any of your iDevice.
8.Darg and drop the file/video on the right sidebar.

  • Can't add movies to my ITunes Library

I have spent the last hour attempting to add some movies to my ITunes library. These files are all in mp4 format.
I have never had trouble before today, but whether I try to add them to the library through the menu, or drag and drop, nothing happens.
I have the most recent ITunes software and am using a MacBook Pro with Lion.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Convert the movie to mp4 (even though it is already mp4) with MPEG Streamclip or Handbrake (both free programs).
Do you mean save the mp4 movie as mp4? Converting (vs. saving it) it just results in more quality loss as the streams are re-coded again.
HB only does full re-coding (I don't know about the newest version). Streamclip lets you save a mp4, basically repackaging the existing streams without recoding.  Mind you, those streams still have to be something iTunes finds acceptable.  iTunes isn't really designed as a comprehensive video player since its video capabilities evolved at the same time Apple started selling movies, so it's up to the reader to figure out where the development priorities lay.

  • Can anybody recommend a program that can delete ghost files in my Itunes library?

I have a HUGE music library and really don't have that kinda time to delete these ghost files. I also don't know which are all ghost files since I have to keep clicking on each song to figure it out. Is there a program to delete these ghost files?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

You can use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to Check for dead tracks on startup as a way to clean out dead links. If your library contains both originals and duplicates of the same tracks only one of which is broken then you might find my script DeDuper useful.

  • Can I add pix to my iTunes library? What all can I have in library?

What formats of stuff like .txt./pix/vids

iTunes cannot hold pictures. Its support of pictures is limited to the iPod's linked folder for syncing, and art that is embedded in songs.
.txt files are not supported. Text can be stored inside of song files, as comments or lyrics.
Video can be in MP4, MPEG or MOV.
    iTunes also supports PDF.

  • I have my itunes library backed up onto a cd-dvd...when I try to add files to my itunes library on my new computer it won't let me...what am i doing worng?

    what am i doing wrong?

Have no clue because the question makes no sense.
What does having the library backed up on CD/DVD have to do with trying to add media to the library on the computer?  Or are you trying to say you cannot update the CD/DVD's with new content?
