Can't add mp3 to library

I just got itunes 6, and just updated to 6.01, and since then, I haven't been able to add a audio book mp3 I downloaded from another source (not iTunes Music Store). This hadn't been a problem with iTunes 5. Is upgrading to 6 the problem?
The icon for the mp3 shows its recognizes as an itunes file. When I double-click on the file, the iTunes windows comes to the front. But nothing happens. The mp3 doesn't show up. I've tried dragging it to the library, using the import to library menu function, and even tried adding the mp3 to the iTunes folder with the other mp3s I have, hoping it would be recognized. Nope.
Any ideas? Is it possible to go back to iTunes 5? Or is that the problem?

I am also having this same problem. I just bought my first iPod, and I am trying to import a bunch of mp3's that I had burned onto CD's to play in my old RIO. I can't figure out how to get them in there.
When I try to use the import command, there is a box that lets me navigate to the folders on the CD, but are only three file types in the drop down box -- *.txt, *.xml, and *.mpu -- no choice for MP3. Therefore, I can't see the actual files in the folders, (track01.mp3) to import.
I tried copying and pasting from the burned CD, and the song shows up in the library, but when I try to play it, it will only play if the CD is in the laptop. Otherwise, it says cannot be used because the original file cannot
be found. "Do you want to locate it?" If I say yes, it only points me back to the burned CD...If the CD is not in the laptop, it says it cannot be found.
Did you get any answers on this? Thanks for the help...

  • Can not add mp3 to library

I just downloaded an mp3 song from Marié Digby's free area, and I couldn't for the life of me get it to import or add to my itunes library. I have played the track via VLC and it doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it. I added my entire Downloads folder to try and get it to show up. I wish I had an error I could give, simply iTunes 11 on my MBP running ML 10.8.2.

I don't have a Recently Added playlist.  However, I discovered that the file I had named Eating Healthy was given the name You Can Enjoy Eating Healthy when it copied to iTunes.  I'm guessing iTunes pulled the full name of the piece from the internet.  Upshot--the mp3 did transfer to iTunes on all 3 tries, but I was looking in my alphabetized list under E, not Y, so I didn't see it there.  Thanks for your help.

  • Can not add files to library

I upgraded to IT7 and after i installed the latest version of Quicktime for a second time it finally worked. But now i can´t add new songs to my library. I use EAC to convert WAV to MP3 and I store them on my external harddrive. Does anyone encounter the same problems or has anyone a solution to this problem?? Thanx

Initially, I got an error message saying that the those componants (that import and burn cds) could not be installed due to a third party software. So I just clicked on iTunes set up and selected repair. The problem was fixed right away. Granted, my error messge told me to re-install iTunes. So try just running a repair from the set up instead of re-installation. Otherwise you might just end up re-installing the same problem.

  • Can't add mp3s to iTunes libaray

    Hi,
I've been having various issues with my iTunes library and duplicate tracks, so I decided to wipe everything and start fresh. Before I uninstalled, I was having problems adding songs to my library. I don't typically store the songs in my library, they stay on my server. It doesn't seem to matter though, I tried monkeying with the settings using both scenarios and have the same problem.
I followed the complete uninstall directions offered by support. After reinstall, I can't add any of my mp3s. The application literally does nothing when I try.
Any ideas? I'd rather not have to go to my PC to use iTunes. Or, I suppose I could dump it altogether and use an alternative.

    Hi,
Sorry, this won't be any help to you, but I'm having the same issue so don't feel all alone. Purchased a Sony digital audio recorder for live sound, plus external stereo mic. Very pleased with what it picked up. Saves files in mp3 format on internal flash mem. Then used WavePad to edit the file. Tried saving as mp3 and AAC but neither one can be moved to iTunes, either by drag and drop or "Add to Library." As in your case, nothing happens. No help found in this forum so far but will keep on looking. Good Luck!

  • How can i "add file to library" and have it be considered to be a Podcast?

I went to a web site and downloaded a file to my C drive (MP3 format) that is not music. It is spoken, and is what i would call a 'Podcast', although i did not access it via iTunes as an official podcast. I then use iTunes "add file to library" function. But, it considers it to be music. I thought maybe drag/drop would work to let me add it to Podcasts, but it does not.
How can i get this file which i have imported into iTunes to be treated as a Podcast? First, i'd like it to appear on my iPod with 'Podcasts'. But, more importantly, if i stop listening in the middle, i'd like it to restart from that point the next time i start it again. Now, it is treated by the iPod like music, and so it starts at the beginning each time.
    Thanks for your help! Tom.

Is there a way that you can "subscribe" to something that is not in iTunes store? This is just a file on a site that is available for download.
If not -- does anybody else know if there is a way to do what the original question posed, to have a file that you downloaded, treated as a Podcast instead of as music?
    Thanks, tom.

  • Can't Add Videos to Library

    Greetings:
I've followed the instructions and I can no longer get video into my iTunes Library.
I reformatted them into mp4, tried navigating to them from Add to Library in the File menu, tried dragging and dropping, but nothing happens. I'm using the latest versions of both iTunes and iPod software. I even trashed iTunes and reinstalled it, but nothing happens.
I had put on a couple of videos when I first got my 5th gen., so I moved them onto my Mac and tried to add them to the iTunes Library and that didn't work either, so I didn't think it's a format problem. I do get the error message that the new videos were't moved because they won't play on my iPod, even though they're in the same format as the ones that do play (MPEG-4). The old files that do play are MPEG-4s but have the suffix m4v. I tried changing the new file suffixes but it didn't help.
    Audio files go in fine.
    Can anyone offer a solution?
    Thanks...

I have the exact same problem. I have several episodes of a series in .avi format. I used Prism to convert them to .mp4 format (I've done this hundreds of times). For some reason iTunes only lets some of the videos into the library. The others just dont show up. iTunes doesnt say i CAN'T add them (i.e. when i try to drag and drop i get a little plus sign and not the restricted symbol), but none the less it won't actually add them. All the files were converted one after the other using the same conversion software, all in the same session.

  • Help Can not add music to library

When i go to file- add file to library- and select the file(playlist) from windows media play it doesnt do anything no error message or anything. I am not good with computers so i need help. All the songs are mp3's. I dont know what to do.

When i go to file- add file to library- and select the file(playlist) from windows media play
Make sure that you are adding actual files - not a windows media player 'playlist'.
    1. Locate where you store the music files that you want (on your computer)
    2. Select the file(s) or album folder
    3. Move the file(s) to your iTunes library on your computer (usually: C: My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music)
    4. In iTunes: File > Add File to library ....Or Add Folder to library > locate the files, select them and add.
Note: It's best to chose a Media Player that you fancy the most to handle your media. If you use two media players to play the same files - then it may cause a conflict between them resulting in duplicate files, files that are not found and automatic renaming of files etc.
    Good luck

  • Can not add music to library.

I have tried adding music files (MP3)  to library and it opens fine and allows me to select it but then it does not appear in the library. I've tried dragging and dropping but nothing. I have also manually added files to the Itunes folder. They appear but not in Itunes. If I uninstall Itunes and reinstall how will this effect the Iphone, and Ipod information apps ect? Will I have to redo all the sign in junk associated? Because honestly with an Iphone and two separate Ipods all with different info and logins is a nightmare I dont want to revisit.

    2. Select the file(s) or album folder
    3. Move the file(s) to your iTunes library on your computer (usually: C: My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music)
    4. In iTunes: File > Add File to library ....Or Add Folder to library > locate the files, select them and add.

  • How can I add a User Library or Instrument Library to my Project Installer?

    Hello All,
I want to includ some libraries for 2014 in my distribution installer in LabVIEW 2014.
Some of these files are located in Instr.lib and others in User.lib. There may also be some in vi.lib.
I have some devices and custom VI's I have written and would like to distribute these with my executable.
Is there a way to include these libraries automatically?
As it stands now, I have to install my application then manually copy these libraries which is obtuse.
Note that one of my user libraries is a directory of VI's, not a compiled libary (at this time).
    Thanks for any advice.

    DB_IQ wrote:
    Yeah, I believe so.
In the past, though, none of these libraries were installed.
    But this is why:
My main VI is the test VI that calls sub vi's from a remote location by reference. These VI's are dynamic in scope.
As such, any of these sub VI's that refer to the libraries in my User.lib for example have no VI to reference. These dynamic VI's do not get installed. They are simply present in a library.
Would it make sense, then, that my VI's that are called by reference should themeselves be installed using an executible so the required instrumetns and user VI's are installed as well?
    That might do the trick.
You can manually add them as dependencies to a seperate folder in the exe build spec, and then reference that relative location in your main VI when calling them.
There is always the Post-Build action too that might help.

  • Can only add mp3s to itunes by dragging individually, not through "Add to iTunes"

Obviously this poses a problem when you have 350GB of music to transfer..
Some background: I am a former PC user who sought a technician to recover files from a crashed PC hard drive. The technician recovered all files all transferred to an external HD (unfortunately not Mac formatted) and I connected to a new 4GB Mac mini. After transferring music files to a desktop folder, I can see my entire former itunes folder but around half of all files are grayed out. Sometimes it's the band names, sometimes the album or track names. My understanding is that these are hidden files, but after using the "killall finder" in terminal it does not change anything. If I go to "Add to itunes" I can pull up the folder but none of my music appears for me to sellect. I can individually drag any files (black or grayed) into itunes and they will work - they'll populate and back up in the mac's music files. This is the kicker, though - the grayed out mp3 are now black. They appear normal. The frustrating part is I can't shift files en masse, i can't only shift them by drilling down the file tree in my music folder and dragging groups of mp3s one album at a time. It would take me months and months of doing this to get everything onto itunes. PLEASE HELP! I cannot find any other examples of this on the net!! Is there software that can make itunes "see" the files again and enable me to import all at once?

Okay, never mind. I unchecked the 2nd box. :/ Doh...

  • Can't add photos to library, Revel says they are duplicates, but they are not in my library.

I'm having an issue trying to add certain photos to my Revel Libraries.  I am attempting to upload from the Mac app, but Revel is telling me that some photos are duplicates and can't be added. But when I look through my library, those photos don't show up.
I had attempted to sync from my phone but had issues with Revel taking up a lot of space, so I swtiched to uploading from my computer.  Could this be causing some of the issues?

    Truly happy to help!
So, we'll proceed through a process of elimination.  First, I want to clear your Mac's Revel app cache.  If that doesn't solve the problem, then we'll turn towards your iOS devices.
On you Mac, since you have no files uploading or syncing down to be backed up on your local hard drive, it is safe to clear the app cache.  This will force the app cache to be rebuilt (and may require some time for your Mac to sync the index of your files from the server).
Click on your Mac's Finder menu Go > Go to Folder > and enter:
    ~/Library/Containers
In the Containers folder, delete the following folder and its contents (this is Revel's app cache):
    ~/Library/Containers/com.adobe.Carousel.mac
Then launch Revel and sign in again. If you disabled Keep Originals in Revel Settings, you may need to turn this off again.  If you had it enabled previously to sync / backup your originals on your Mac, you will not need to download them all again.  Whatever originals you had on your Mac already are safely stored in your Adobe Revel Library, in your Pictures folder.
After letting Revel Mac sync up with the server, if you are still blocked from uploading those "duplicate" photos, then we'll turn towards Revel iOS apps.  Do you Revel iOS apps say "Up-to-date" in the status area at the bottom of your library view?  If you tap the cloud, do you show anything still syncing/uploading from that device?  If not, uninstall the app -- this will clear out the iOS app cache.  Then reinstall the iOS app and sign in again.  Can you upload those photos now?
Let me know how it goes!
