Can't add new Address Book entries from Mail

I can no longer add new contacts to the Address Book directly from Mail. I can go through the motions (right clicking on an email address brings up the appropriate options), but no new entry shows up in the Address Book. When I try to repeat the action, I can no longer "add" the entry, but instead it gives me the option of finding that entry. When I do that, it opens up the Address Book, but just defaults to the first entry. If I close and reopen Mail, it defaults back to the option of adding the entry again (as opposed to 'finding' it). Has anyone else seen this? (FYI, I can manually add entries to the Address Book just fine.)

This hasn't worked since I did the new system install.
That does not change my advice, whether you take it is up to you.

    I use my iPad to get the address book backed up by iCloud from my iPhone. However, I cannot see the recent new contacts from my iPad. Is there anyway to check the iCloud server to see if my address book backup from my iPhone is still there?

    Hi tizac,
    You will want to add them to your Contacts.
    There's a "+" button at the bottom of the contact list on the left to add a contact.
    If you need to add the email address or phone number to an existing contact, there's an Edit button at the bottom of the contact info (on the right).
    Once you have the contact email address or phone number you want to message to, scroll all the way down to the bottom of their information and there are options to:
    Send Message               FaceTime
    Share Contact             Add to Favorites
    Of course choose "Send Message" to send an iMessage to them and you will start a new chat.  You will be given the options of how to contact them, via phone number (if they are on an iPhone) or email (if they are on an iPod touch or iPad).   They do need to be signed up for iMessage or it won't allow you to send.

  • HT1692 Can I transfer my address book /contacts from a lap top using windows vista to my iPad mini

    Can I transfer my address book/contacts from a laptop with windows vista to my iPad mini?

    To sync from windows things like Contacts, Calendars, and Mail you would need to have Outlook on the computer 2003, 2007, or 2010.  This article might help you out if your setting it up for the first time. Hope it helps.

  • How to keep a new Address Book entry separate from current Address Book

    I am developing a list of 500 emails that I will use for a group email. I want to avoid adding them to my current address book entries and make a totally separate file that I can access when I want to send to this group only.
    Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

    Address Book only supports one list of contacts, not multiple address books. However, you can create the list as a Group within Address Book. If you don't want to keep that group around all the time, you can export the whole group as a vCard (File menu > Export Group vCard), delete the group from your list, and when you want to send mail to the group, just drag-and-drop the vCard to the Bcc: field of a new mail message (or the To: field, but the Bcc: field is the proper one to use, so the recipients of the group email can't see the email addresses of the other recipients).
    To access the Bcc: field, click the to the left of Subject.
    Hope this helps...

  • I can't retrieve my address book data from G Drive to import to new addr book in Snow Leopard

    I am really annoyed by Apple these days. Just had to purchase iwork and sundry other software after upgrading to Snow Leopard and the Lion on my system. Now, have just received my wife's iMac from being "fixed" the hard drive was brloken. It was supposed to have had Snow Leopard uploaded for me. It was not so I have just done that, however I can't get the address book fron the G Drive to upload to the new system. Each time I access the address book on the G drive I get a message saying that it is an old system (4.1.1) and will not open in this system. How do I get that data off the G Drive and onto the upgraded iMac?

    Thank you for getting back to me.
    I tried what you said. I moved my old address book file into my new hard drive but it still opens "empty".
    When I look up my addresses in Spotlight it finds them and seems to recognize them at address book files but it doesn't want to open them. When I double click on them it opens address book but the not the file.
    When I click on the file and look at "more info" on it, I can see the information is in there.
    I don't want to loose all my contacts.
    On a side note do you have any easy tips for backing up?
    Thank you again,
    Trent

  • Can't add to Address Book via Mail App

    I had some permissions problems a while back (I did an "apply to enclosing folders" on my system disk -  don't ask - I'm an idiot) and while I fixed them by creating a new system and migrating the old system data to the new system, some problems still persist.
    The most annoying one being that I can't add Address Book Contacts to the address book right from the Mail application. I can add a contact manually through the Address Book application, but this doesn't seem to be working "interapplication".
    Does anyone have any ideas how this might be fixed? I've repaired permissions NUMEROUS times and really the only ones I get are ACL's are either missing, or unexpected.
    I think this same type of problem is inhibiting me from adding dates to iCal from the Mail application as well.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance for your help & cooperation.
    Best,
    Fred

  • Can't Add To Address Book?

    In no way what so ever am I able to edit/add any person to my address book. HELP!!! I have tried various methods listed on this site, and via friends, so help would be nice.

    Hi,
    I encountered exactly the same problem and the above advise had helped me to resolve it.
    My problem was:
    * I could't add a new card to an existing address book (opening the AB application from within the Application folder);
    The symptoms were:
    * no '+' signs on the bottom of 'groups' and 'names' windows
    * grayed out 'edit' button;
    * the 'add new card', 'new group', 'back up Address Book' etc. from the 'file' menu were grayed out.
    What I did is (step by step):
    * highlighted all the names in the 'names' window;
    * exported them (to a file on the desktop) using 'export vcard' in the file menu;
    * closed AB;
    * moved the folder: users/~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook to desktop (while '~' is your username);
    * opened AB (as described above, all contacts have gone but the previously unavailable menu items as well as the '+' and 'edit'buttons started working as expected);
    * imported the vcards file from desktop.
    All of the steps were described by Austin above. I just puted them together. Thanks :~)

  • Can't "add new address"

    8 Gb iPhone v.1.1.2 Mac OS 10.4.10 iTunes 7.4.2
    I'm having a problem with adding physical addresses to my contacts. In general, I sync my contacts via a group in address book. I noticed the issue when I was unable to access one of my contacts after a sync. What happened was that a physical street address was added to the contact in Address book, then synced to the phone. When I attempted to then call the contact some days later, upon pressing the contact to place the call, my phone would just jump back to the "home screen". After some investigation, I found that if I removed the street address from the contact in Address book, resync, I could then call the contact.
    Digging deeper, I then accessed the particular contact via the iPhone, and tried to add the street address directly to the contact on the phone itself. When I edit the contact, then press the "Add new Address" button, again, my iPhone just returns to the home screen.
    I then wondered if it was just this "poison" contact, or others as well. I've found that problem occurs in trying to add a street address to ANY existing contact on my phone, as well as any contact I add via address boot that has a street address. Upon pressing the "Add new Address" button, my iPhone just returns to the home screen.
    A search of the apple discussions and google found no hints other than a reboot or soft reset, which I've tried. I'm still experiencing the same issues. Any suggestions here before I have to slough it over to a "genius" at an apple store, which isn't very close or convenient?
    Regards and Happy Holidays.

    Upgraded. Still having the same issue. What was that upgrade supposed to accomplish? iPhone software is still the same (latest version) and I still cannot add a physical address to any contact on my phone - via the phone GUI or importing / syncing from address book. Also, any contact that has a physical (street) address, I am unable to call because once selected in the phone UI, the UI just returns to the "home" screen as if I pressed the home button.

  • Creating a new address book group from bcc:

    I spent some time today trying to figure out if there is a way to make a new group in my address book from existing cc: or bcc: entries?
    I would have hoped I could just drag them over to a newly formed group, but that didn't work.
    The best I could do was copy all the emails, paste them into a text file, convert them manually to a tab delimited text file, re-import them into Address Book, but I still would have to find these emails within the 1400 some odd entries in my address book and add them to a new group.
    Now THAT is a lot of steps to do what I am trying to do, there must be a better way??
    Thanks for any ideas,
    Henry

    You must do this on your computer.

  • Multiple Address Book entries from iPhone

    When I add a single contact using iPhone (3GS, Ver 4.1) as it syncs to MobileMe, anywhere from 1 to 9 additional copies of the exact same contact card are created. Of course they’re propagated throughout my various Macs and iPad, as well as MobileMe.
    This does not happen when adding a contact to the iPad or any of the 4 Macs I’ve got synced to MobileMe to keep my calendar and address books up to date.
    Does anyone else have this issue, and if so, what’s the fix?
    Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

    Yes ... I am experiencing the same issue. Seems no matter how I adjust the iPad preferences, I continue to get multiple entires in my address book.
    I do not get multiple entries in my macBook or my iPhone.

  • Can't edit/see Address Book entries after adding contact image

    I added a photo to one of the contacts in Address Book and then all the card info for all contacts disappeared. I still see the names in the "name" list, but I cannot add a new one, edit any of them or do anything. I added the photo from iPhoto and then it seemed to die. Any tips on how to remedy, or at least wipe clean and start over? I thankfully only had three contacts in there (new computer) but I suppose I won't attempt to add any photos in the future. I just need to restart the application somehow and I don't know how to do that. Mac help menu didn't seem to address this at all.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Can I restore my address book info from a backed user file app support?

    My hard drive crashed, no data recovered. I had my user file backed up to an ExHD. New HD installed, put Leopard on it. Is there a way I can restore my contacts to my Address Book through my backed up user file on my ExHD? I can not locate an actual archive file of the address book.

    If you were using the same version of Mac OS X on both drives (10.5 to 10.5, 10.4 to 10.4, etc), then you only need to move a copy of the Home/Library/Mail folder from the backup and replace the existing Home/Library/Mail folder on the new HD with it.
    Be sure that Mail is not running when you do this.

  • Restoring address book entries from Time Machine

    My wife managed to merge our address books via mobile me (not sure how-neither is she!!).  Anyway I went in and deleted all her contacts from my address book on my mac, synced and I was all set.  Problem is she says (not sure if this is accurate) that the contacts in question disappeared from her phone (which would make sense for my account on her phone but they should still show up on her account).
    Anyway I have been trying to use time machine to restore the individual entires but I don't want to simply restore the whole address book.  I tried restoring the user/library/application data/address book/metadata file to my desktop and then importing the individual cards into my address book in a specific group for her and once I did that step 2 was going to be to figure out how to get those back into her mobile me account.  Problem is step 1 is not working-when I try to drag the individual card files from the metadata folder Address Book says they are not vaild cards (i.e. contain no data).
    Can anybody steer me in the right direction for at least step 1 (and 2 if possible)?

    Nothing???

  • Can't add new address in 'contacts'

    Hi,
    As small, yet annoying problem: when I try to add a new contact to my contacts list all the text fields work fine, with one exception: filling in the address of the new contact simply doesn't work. The vertical bar fails to appear and nothing can be filled in. With older, existing contacts the already present addresses can be edited, this works as it should. Of course I've tried restarting, but this has no effect.  I've had this annoying problem since a couple of months now, the latest IOS upgrades/updates didn't change this.
    So it's only the address text field that is dysfunctional for me...
    My iPad 3 retina - IOS8.1.3 - has no further issues whatsoever
    Any suggestions?
