Can't Add Photos to Project

Hey all,
I'm using iMovie 09 for the first time today. I usually use iMovie 08.
Anyway, in iMovie 08 if I wanted to add a still photo over some of my project, I'd split the project to the length I want and simply drag the photo onto it. This would give me the effect of seeing the photo with the talking from the movie still in the background.
Today, iMovie 09 won't let me do this. Can anyone tell me how I can get it to do this? When I drag a photo over, it's simply splitting the clip and putting the photo in between which I don't want. I essentially want it as an 'overlay' I guess.

You can do this in 09 and it is really slick.
First, you must open iMovie/Preferences and turn on the Advanced Tools.
Now you just drag your photo to the spot in the video clip where you want it, and drop it on the video clip. A pop up menu will come up with several choices. Pick "cutaway".

Hi! I have been trying to add a photo from my desktop to a project in imovie. It worked perfectly 1 day ago (same project). I tried dragging it and I saw this green line and added it. I could see the thumbpic but when I clicked on it it was black or another pic was showing!!! Then I tried importing it to iPhoto and did the same thing with the same result. What should I do? of course You can - but if the pref file got destroyed then You can find out if that has happened by using a new Account. It's just a test.
And most of us has got this to happen by Panic/Forced Quitting the Mac
• Sometimes there are no alternative
• Most often one get's stressed and does this before Application is done
And if this is the probable fault then You can in Your first/main account trash this file and iMovie will make a new fresh one.

It's easy to do in iPhoto11 (click on a photo in iphoto and select share in the bottom right corner, then select Photo Stream), I'm not sure you can do this on the iphone.

I have uploaded photos from my brother's camera while on vacation to my iPad (1). Now that I wish to add even more photos to the iPad, iTunes say that it will replace all the photos once I sync again to add from an album on the iMac.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

You have a couple of options:
Open the photos one at a time and take a screenshot. This will add a new low resolution copy of the photo to the camera roll, which will then upload to your photo stream;
Email the photos one at a time to yourself, then save the attached photos to your camera roll. This will add a copy of the photo at full resolution to your camera roll and upload to photo stream;
Use an app like PhotoSync, which will allow you to wirelessly transfer copies of all your old photos to your computer all at once. Then delete these photos from your camera roll and use PhotoSync to transfer them back from your computer to your camera roll. These will be the original resolution and will upload to your photo stream. (You need an app like this because iTunes will not transfer photos back to your camera roll, where they must be in order to add to your photo stream.)

Can't add photos to nano

I just got my black 4gig a couple hours ago and I love it, I got music added to it all right but I have 27 MB left and I can't add photos to it.
I get through all the steps and select about 6 photos to add (not full size) but then I get an error message saying my iPod cannot be updated (error -208). I installed the software and did iPod update and I have iPhoto 4.0.3
Any suggestions please?

From the nano specs online:
"Mac system requirements:
Mac OS X v10.3.4 or later"
Your signature says your running OS X 10.0.x, so you might need to upgrade your OS (key word MIGHT).
From the nano manual (see link below):
"You can download photos from a folder on your hard disk. If you have a Mac and iPhoto 4.0.3 or later, you can download iPhoto albums automatically. " - You should be OK on your iPhoto version from the version you said you are currently running.
Try dragging a couple of photos from your iPhoto library to a folder on your computer. Then try to add the photos to your iPod with the alternative method of selecting photos using the 'From Folder' option and use the folder/photos you have set aside.
See if you can then add them this way or get the same error.

Photos in the camera roll are those which (in most cases) are taken on the device, the photostream album contains photos which have been synced from photostream in the cloud, which can include photos from your camera roll as well as from other devices using photostream. Photostream photos can be lower resolution than the same photos in the camera roll.
Photos in photostream can be edited and saved to other albums.

You further explained
I am simply wanting to “overlay” a new visual element without disturbing the underlying audio.
A classical way to do a Premiere Elements Overlay is to hold down the Ctrl key of the computer main keyboard and drag the new clip over the area of the one you want to replace on the Timeline. That should not do anything but replace one portion of the video on the Timeline. No change in duration video or audio track if you are dealing with video linked to audio.
If you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, I am envising a scenario where you want to add to (not replace) some Timeline content.
A just in case note, if you have video on Video 1 and 2 and the video in 2 does not have transparent areas in it, then all you will see is the Video 2 content. I believe that Hunt eluded to that concept as a possible technique for what you might be doing.

Creating an iPhoto project book....how can I add photos to the photo pane?

I am creating a book from our recent vacation. Each day of the vacation I have separated into different Events. I chose the first day/event and clicked create book.....have placed all the photos in various "slots" in the book and now want to add photos from more events but cannot figure out how to do that.....can this be done???

Select the photo(s) or event(s) you want to add to your book and drag them to the book project in the source pane to the left
BTW - you will love your results - I have quit printing photos and doing albums - only do iPhoto books for our trips now - we love them and our friends are amazed - plus it is easy to duplicate if people we went with want copies

Encore - Bridge; can't add photos

I can't seem to add photos to my Encore slideshow via Bridge. I opened
Bridge from Encore using File->Browse, then selected some images in Bridge,
and then tried both methods 1) double clicking the images, and 2) File->Open
in Adobe Encore DVD as -> Slideshow. Niether method seemed to add the
images to Encore (if they were added, I can't fine them). I'm using Encore
2.0 and Bridge CS2 on Windows XP SP2. Any suggestions on what I may be
doing wrong?

I typically use "Import as slideshow" which can be accessed under the file menu or with a right-click at the bottom of the project window.

I can't add photos or titles

I haven't been able to add photos or titles to my project. I have done it before (on my former laptop) but there seem to be a glitch in the software. The photos show up, I drag them, I see the green + and the green line, but it does not add to the project. Same thing with the titles. I just updated the software hoping it would fix it, but the problem is still there. Anyone can offer a solution?

Only "workarounds" are:
Produce the titles in a separate project, export those as movies and then reimport those movies and add them to your main project.
Continue working on other parts of your project and then try adding titles again later sometimes they'll "kick in" again.
