Can't add pictures (after installing iphoto 11)to a book done in iphoto 09

Hey,
I've done a book in iphoto 09. I've installed ilife 11 and now I can't open the field "pictures" to add some pictures to the book. Iphoto freezes. I got 16 000 pictures.
I've tried the "rebuild" and it's not working.
Can someone help me?
Do you think I can continue to do my book but without opening the 16 000 pictures?

I am sorry if I am not completely following you, but I think I am now.
To put it shortly, I didn't have any issues taking a photobook that I started in '09 and continuing it in '11.
Backing up is key before doing too much, cuz you don't want to get further in a rut than you already are. It does take a while for my computer to pull up all the photos that I have in the album project folder. Over 4,000 photos and 4GB RAM--- maybe you just have to be patient. I've had it before that something seemed like it was taking forever and even the command-option-esc key said it wasn't responding, but it eventually thought through it and the process completed. (I was trying to print to PDF some photobook pages that had maps on it, and that takes more time sometimes.)
You could try just pulling your photos from your library into the photobook again and see if that works.
If patience or dragging doesn't work, then my next goto would be to try to go back to the library before you updated. By this, I mean, hopefully, you backed-up your iPhoto Library onto an external hard drive before upgrading (copying the entire iPhoto Library Folder onto an external hard drive).
If this is the case, I'd copy that iPhoto Library back onto my Hard Drive making sure that it doesn't overwrite the Library you have now especially if you have uploaded more photos while using '11. Then, making sure I am exited from iPhoto, while holding down the control key and clicking the iPhoto application to start (keep holding down the control key), a library choosing box will appear. You will have to then direct it to where you just copied your '09 backup. Then, choose that library. It will open and go through the transition again from '09 to '11.
If this does the trick, you can delete the library you were monkeying with before, unless there are new photos/videos you have uploaded while using '11. In that case, you will want to get those photos exported from that library and import them into your newly updated library.
Let me know if this seems to be what would fix your problem? I mean, it is still dependent on whether this will fix your photos issue with your photobook, assuming something went wrong in the transition phase in the first place.
