Can't add songs to iTunes after upgrade to OSX Lion

Hi,
I have a problem since I updated my system to OSX Lion. While updating I migrated my iTunes library to my new system. I have a custom location of my music library on HD/DATA/MUZIEK. My library in iTunes is playable but I cannot add any songs to it. It says I don't have the right permissions. I have tried to restore disk permissions with the Disk Utility to no avail. I also tried to change the permissions of the mentioned folder. It says System: Read and write, Wheel: Read, Everyone: Read. I cannot change these values. Everything inside the music folder is set the same but I am able to change it. There is only one user installed on this Macbook Pro.
I would very much like to know how to solve this. Please help me.

Safari showing text as boxes with A in them after upgrade to OSX lion

Hi,
After upgrading to OSX Lion and the new Safari that comes with it 6.0. It is showing a lot of the charachters on some websites as a box with a capital A in them. These are then pastered all over the site.
If i go to other browsers it is fine. Also when i copy and paste these A boxes it to the search bar it shows the correct text. But when viewing the page it is impossible to view the text and makes for an unpleasant browsing experience.
Any idea how to fix this issue? Is it a font issue? I have not changed any of my fonts and I would assume that the browser would be using a standard web font.
Any help on solving this riddle would be appreciated.

Can't add songs to iTunes 10.4.1

Previously, I was able to add songs to iTunes by directly dragging files from any location to any iTunes playlist or the general Music section and this would automatically add the new songs to my library.
After the 10.4.1 update, I can no longer drag songs into iTunes to add to the library.
Attempting to drag and drop crashes iTunes (beach ball appears and I have to force quit).
The only way to add songs is to use the "automatically add to..." folder nested in the iTunes Media folder.
This makes adding songs a much longer process because I have to copy the files into the designated folder and wait for iTunes to automatically add them to the library.
Previously, when I was able to drag new files into a playlist and the files would be copied to the library's main directory, it made it easier to see—right away—the new files added to the library via the playlist, instead of having to deal with smart playlists.
Does anyone have this problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I have tried reinstalling iTunes already.

My problem originated from the fact that I have upgraded to LION.
My old Itunes library was still saved in a folder called previous systemd. (wel done software devellopers).
I have dived up my iTunes books and refreshed my knowledge and now in advanced settings of itunes specified the path to the library in this folder and have my whole 63 gig library back.
I have also a new program called PowerTunes and with this program I can make iTunes finding every music file or folder on my computer.So instead of me adding things in Itunes which for some reason is difficult now I let my new program find every piece of music ever installed on any dik connected to my computer.

Can't add songs from iTunes to iMovie

I'm having a new problem. I have the latest versions of iTunes and iMovie. I've used iMovie before and never encountered this - I can't add any songs to a track. When I try to do this, I get the error: "iMovie song could not be used because the original file could not be located." Please help.

I know this thread's fairly old, but I tried everything mentioned here and in a few other threads I saw on the web, and finally I found something that worked: It seems iMovie couldn't access the "main" library, but COULD access songs that were a assigned to playlists, when you select the playlist in the music selection pane. So, I made a playlist called "global" and put my entire library into it. I selected that playlist in iMovie, and now it can find every song I have!

Can't add song to iTunes

There is a song on my computer that I want to add to iTunes. Usually when I click on any song, it automatically adds to iTunes and plays. This song is an MPEG file. When I double click on it, iTunes pops up, but the song does not add to the list and it does not play. However it does play in Windows Media Player. I have also tried dragging the song into iTunes, but that doesn't work either.

With me it's slightly different however...
I have imported a CD a while back by U2. Now i am creating a new album called the 100 greatest guitar tracks which i've found on a website, and i have almost ALL the songs in various other albums and compilations. However, i'm trying to create a copy of one song in particular by copying it to the desktop, renaming the album on the MP3 to 100 greatest guitar tracks, then reimporting it. It will not play or be imported into iTunes!
- i've checked and yes the file extension is '.mp3'.
- The initial copy of the song plays fine in iTunes.
- The song wont play in QuickTime (Error 2048: the file is not a movie file)
- The copied song works in both WinAmp and WMP.
- The altered album name does not appear to have changed in the mp3 on my desktop, as it still shows the old album name, not 100 greatest guitar tracks.
- No, it's not a WMA file.
- i've tried renaming the file extension to WMA, MPEG, AVI, and these all work with RealPlayer, WMP and all the rest. Then i tried renaming to .m4a (the extension for an apple AAC format song) and again, it just opened the iTunes window but did not play.
- Clearly the iTunes file association is there for the mp3 file, but it just won't play it!

When I try & add a song to my ipod, nothing happens. I've tried drag & drop, add file...
& in Summary, I have checked Manually manage music & all the other boxes.

Time machine backup is "failed" and message reads: The backup disk image "/volumes/data/lynnblake's MacBookPro sparsebundle" is already in use.
I have no idea what this means or how to solve. It started after my upgrade to mountain lion.

Can't add songs to iTunes

One day I noticed that several of my albums in iTunes were missing songs. I searched high and low for them, and sure enough, they are not to be found in iTunes. They are, however, very much on my HD, and they work with WMP, MM, etc.
I used mp3checker, and they are not corrupt. I used Mp3Tag, and they are all id3v2.3 tags. The only clue I have is that when I use Magic MP3 Tagger to try to view the file information of the songs that are not showing up in iTunes, it says "Sorry, file information couldn't be read." I don't have this problem in Mp3Tag. The songs on the album that are in iTunes don't have this problem in Magic.
I've tried adding by file, by folder, dragging the files into iTunes, and nothing works. I've tried re-tagging them with both Mp3Tag and Magic and then re-adding. Doesn't work. Tried re-naming them. Nothing.
It seems clear that there is something wrong with the files themselves. However, I can add, edit, and play them in WMP and MM, so it must be something very minor and technical that's preventing them from working with iTunes/Magic Mp3 Tagger. Can anybody who knows more about mp3s think of what might be going on?

After saving the tags (ID3v2) remove the other tags with File - Remove Tag (or Ctrl + R)
Note: Write down the original settings so you always can revert back, plus try
this on backups of your audio files.

TS1424 Issue with purchasing song on itunes after upgrade!!!

I recently purchased Dark Horse by Katy Perry AFTER i upgraded my phone to the new iso7. During the purchase i agreed to the updated T & C's and confirmed to buy, but then it frose and it woudlnt let me do anything.
The song has not downloaded to my itunies library on my Iphone 5 or PC, nor have i recieved recipt & it wont let me purchase it again as it states i have already purchased the track.
Can someone help with this??!!

Does it show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone for (re-)downloading (music can't be redownloaded in all countries) ? You should also have a Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes home page on your computer's iTunes. How can I add songs to itunes music folder without them being duplicated within the folder (not on my hard drive)?

I have music files all over the place and want to put them all in itunes with no duplicates and get rid of all the rest. how can I do that? Some of my playlists are missing songs. I would like to move the playlist back to itunes from my ipod without having to put the songs in my media folder yet again! I have wasted so much time fooling with this. Really what I am trying to get at through all of this is to run the songs on the ipod through ivolume so they play equally.
Can anyone make sense of this for me?

It sounds like you have a few different problems.
To find all your music, try using a spotlight search. Type "kind:music" in the spotlight search (the magnifying glass in the far upper-right corner ) then choose "show all in finder". You'll end up with a window that shows all your music files, regardless of where they are on your hard drive. But don't move any files, because that may confuse iTunes (it won't be able to find files that you move, because - d'oh! - you moved them and now they're not where iTunes left them. That's usually how people end up in the kind of situation that you're in.)
If you want to let iTunes organize your music for you, make sure those options are turned on in the iTunes preferences (in the "advanced" section), then go to the "File" menu, choose "Library" and then choose "Organize library". That will put all your music in the iTunes Library folder (but leave copies of the originals wherever they were, all over your hard drive).
To find duplicates in your iTunes Library, choose "display duplicates" (or hold down the option key and it changes to "display exact duplicates" which might help in some cases). You'll still have to manually go through them to delete one of each duplicate.
Now you can start combining those three techniques - if you consolidate your music and let iTunes copy everything into the music folder, you'll know that iTunes safely has a copy of all your music in the iTunes Library folder. So you can do the spotlight search, and delete any duplicate files that are not in your iTunes library folder. Anything that's left over (that is, it's not a duplicate and it's not in the itunes music folder), you'll need to add to iTunes (try using the "automatically add to itunes" folder - spotlight search to find it - anything you drop in there will get added to iTunes without leaving a duplicate file). Then you can use the itunes "duplicates" feature to find the duplicates in iTunes and fix those.

Can't add songs to itunes library

I have a file with 87 songs in it and when i went to add the file to itunes library only 57 came up. i have tried adding songs by them selves. checked there tags and song names, and everything is normal but itunes wont add them... and no error message apears when doing so *** ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY PLZ~

Try http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0086.html it is an MP3 validator on your mp3's that will not play.
It could also be that the TAGS are not correctly written. There are a lot of problems when the tags are in the ID3v2.4 format. It's better if you switch to writing ID3v2.3 UTF-16 Tags. You can us a program like Mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html) to write the tags, and remove unwanted tags.
Ps: As always make backups of your audio files before you try anything.

Can't add files to HD after upgrading to Lion

hi,
i just upgraded to lion and now i can't drag and drop files from my desktop onto my macintosh HD icon. i get the error popup window "The item (filename) can't be moved because "Macintosh HD" can't be modified" then I need to click on the "Authenticate" button on the popup window, type in my password for the system and then it will add it to my mac hd.
i'm sure i just have something locked or set wrong, but i've never gotten this error before.
does anyone know what i need to change or do so i don't have to authenticate each time i want to drag/drop something onto my HD?

thanks for your reply, after running repair permissions several times (which was a good idea because several were corrupt) but did no good for this issue, i went to look at the permissions for the hd and everything looked good, system had read/write anyone else had read only. i added myself (my computer administrator name) with read/write permission and now everything works as it should

Can't add songs from itunes to ipod

Hi all. Just got a new computer and transferred everything to do with ipod to it, but now if a download a song on to itunes, when i plug my ipod in, it doesn't update the song to it. Any ideas?

Check your update preferences. Connect your iPod and when it shows in iTunes click on it's icon this will bring up the tabs in the main pane to the right. In the first tab "Summary" check to see if your iPod is set to "manually manage songs and playlists" if it is remove the checkmark and the one against "enable disk use" and click "Apply", your iPod should sync automatically after that.
If it's not set to manual and still won't sync then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

Mac: Can I add 3.6.23 after upgrading to 8.0.1 and run either one?

I upgraded but I am supporting a student who is enrolled at Agora Cyber Charter School in the k12 online school system. That program only supports Firefox 3.6.23 at the highest. I want to be able to run that older version when I go online for Agora purposes but run the latest version for other work. Is that possible on MacBook Pro?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

How can I repair my mac mail after upgrading to OSX 10.8.2?

I've just upgraded my mac but it's messed up my mac mail.
I have 2 accounts - one hotmail and one webmail for my business account. Both accounts are working in terms of receiving emails but I cannot send from either account and have followed all the suggestions using help but still it's not working.
Checked there are no blocks from my ISP or via the firewall and both are clear.
Anyone out there had similar experiences and can suggest other ways to try and repair my mail.

thanks everyone for your suggestions. I've moved the entire default tool bar but still no icon for send appears - it isn't even in the default toolbar which is weird.
think that something has gone seriously wrong with the instal as I can now create a new email but when I hit send all the outgoing servers are grey and state offline even though when you click through into advance settings and I check the SMTP etc everything is correct - sigh.
can't believe it's taken me over 3 days now to try and do such a simple thing and with it being my work email aswell it's a right pain communicating with my photography clients.
anyway, mini rant over. thanks again I might consider just taking it off the mac for now.
