Can't add songs to my iPod in iTunes 11

I cannot add individual songs to my iPod in the new iTunes. I tried all of the methods described in the Apple tutorial - none of them actually work. All I can do is auto-fill, which I have absolutely no desire to do. Is anyone else having this problem? Anybody out there find a solution yet?

Assuming you do not already have the left hand sidebar showing, click on View, Show sidebar. Then you will see all your devices libray and playlists. Then you can just drag the song title onto your iPod. Just retried to confirm it works with my iPhone and it does. Then click on your device and sync.
An grey button apears to the right of the song title when you hover over it. Click it and the Add To option appears about 2/3 the way down. Click on that and you can add to a playlist

The e-mail address that I used to add songs to my ipod in iTunes no longer exists.  Most of the 2,600 songs were downloaded from CD's.  Is there a way to access the itunes account?

Only downloads from iTunes will be tied to that iTunes account, unless you subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded the other songs from your computer to it. If you can't remember the account's password then you could try seeing if you can get reset via this page : http://iforgot.apple.com
If that doesn't work then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they can help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
When you've got access to the account you can update the primary email address on it to be one that you still have access to : http://appleid.apple.com
If you don't have the music that wasn't downloaded from iTunes on a backup then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back from your iPod : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

Is there a way that I can put the songs on my ipod onto itunes on my new computer without loosing them or having to buy them all over again?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

Can I transfer songs etc from ipod to itunes library?

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

  • I can't add songs to my ipod mini

i am no longer able to add songs to my ipod mini. when i connect the mini to my laptop (ibook) a message pops up which says that there is not enough room on the ipod for the files and would i like the computer to randomly select music to be added to the ipod. i have checked the manual selection for my ipod and i still can't put music on the ipod but when i went to the apple store they said that it was working fine and they reset it as well so i shouldnt have a problem but i still do plz help.

"a message pops up which says that there is not enough room on the ipod for the files and would i like the computer to randomly select music to be added to the ipod"
Unless I'm missing something really obvious here, you can't put any more music on it because the iPod is full.
"i have checked the manual selection for my ipod and i still can't put music on the ipod"
Manual or automatic, if the iPod is full you can't put any more music on it without deleting songs from the iPod to create some space.

  • I can't add songs to my ipod nano 5th gen. Get a sync error (13019)

Today I connected my 5th gen. nano to my windows computer to add some songs to my library. When I connected it I got a pop up saying windows had added my ipod drive to the computer. I dont know why it did this because it was already added; I've had my nano for over a year and have been using it on my computer for too. I went to add songs, and they worked. When I subsequently went to change something in a playlist, I got an error saying my ipod couldn't be synced (13019). I have never had my ipod synced so i dont know why it would say this. Now, when I try to add songs to my ipod, it doesn't work, and I get the same sync error message. I don't know what to do.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • How do you (or can you) play songs from your ipod on itunes?

Im trying to play my the songs on my iPod with itunes that I just installed on my friends laptop. The problem is, the place where it says Charles's (me) Laptop, the songs are all grayed out and I cant select any of them.

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Check out the links below and make the change on your own computer before you connect it to the second one:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
    Some additional info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

The computer where i have my itunes library is no longer accessible.  How can I add new songs to my  Ipod nano without losing the song already on it?

You will need that library copied from the old computer. If not, then you can take a look at this in getting 3rd party software to recover your library from the iPod. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • How can i add songs to my ipod touch???????

apparently apple has done another update, and a whole revamp of the original layout and i can not find ANYTHING any more. updates dont work and it says my 2000 pictures are gone and my 500 songs show as only 1 song.....which is the ONE new song i just added. what the heck did they do????? how can i upload anything?????
I promise you i will NEVER EVER buy anything from apple ever again. This has been my first and final purchase because they seem to make it soooooo overly complicated that i just want to smash the machine to bits and go buy something else.....which is in the very near future. I can get a $50 mp3 touch screen player with 32GB through walmart right now that does EVERYTHING this ipod touch does and if it breaks WHO CARES IT WAS $50!!!! Unlike the $400 i spent on this piece of crap. But the best feature on the cheap walmart one is the ability to use it and understand it!!!
So for now, because i am giving this pos to my son to play with all he wants, how do i get it to add songs?????
    Thank you.

I'd suggest restoring it to make sure you start completely clean:

Then you can sync whatever content you wish:

  • I can't add songs on my ipod, its as if it were locked!

I just got a replacement and it won't let me add or delete the exact songs I want on my iPod. the only way it can is by letting iTunes choose my playlist. Whenever I try to drag a song onto my iPod, its as if it were locked & not allowing me to do so. I can't highlight any of the songs either. I already tried the "5R's", reset the warnings, and still nothing! There are no warning signs or anything else letting me know why it won't let me add or delete. Help!

  • Can't add songs to my ipod shuffle

my computer reads my ipod but when i try to add songs my itunes freezes then when it unfreezes nothing happened. When i tried to add songs with my sisters computer it will work but not with mine. any ideas?

Try downloading the iPod Reset Utility (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238 or http://support.apple.com/downloads/iPodReset_Utility_1_0_4_forWindows)from Apple and reset the iPod and then try adding the songs by Auto fill.. This works for me...
But only problem is that when ever you need add a song, we need to reset each and every time and then Update the play list and then do the auto fill...
    Best of luck...

  • Can you get songs on the ipod without itunes?

    like you can on ipods?
use your own music on it to save you buying every song.

    like you can on ipods?
I think if you google "ipod without itunes" or "iphone without itunes" you'll get plenty of hits with interesting suggestions.
use your own music on it to save you buying every song.
Just because you use iTunes doesn't mean you have to buy every song from Apple's store. You can import your existing CDs or MP3s into iTunes without buying them again. You can use iTunes to manage your existing collection of music, and not buy any new music. (The vast majority of my music collection was ripped from CDs, not purchased from Apple's store.) Also iTunes has wonderful integration with free sources of audio content including podcasts, iTunes U, etc.
In my opinion, the main reason to get an iPod or iPhone is for the seamless integration with iTunes. If you decide you don't want to use iTunes, you probably are dealing with slightly more cumbersome music integration which is probably no better or no worse than any of the other MP3 players out there.
Reading between the lines of your original post, if you're concerned about getting locked into Apple's proprietary world when managing your music in iTunes, you consider using an industry standard format, like MP3, rather than Apple's proprietary file formats, such as AAC. Specifically, in iTunes, go to preferences, go to the "When you insert CD section", click on "Import Settings", and change from AAC to something like MP3. Not as efficient way of storing the music, but you're also not locked into Apple's file formats (and thus just Apple hardware/software). But if you expect to stay with iPods and similar Apple players, AAC is a fine format. But for those of us who play music on other players too (e.g. my TiVo), MP3 is a more flexible format.
