Can't adjust icons in notification area.

I right click on task bar and go into and change wheather to always hide, hide when inactive, or always show icons and click ok.  Then I'm back to the start menu box to click apply then ok to go back to the desktop.  When I click on apply or ok in that box my computer freezes up.  I just installed a new hard drive and loaded my Windows XP Home Eddition from the setup disks from HP and had not got on the internet yet when this problem started.  And after making changes in my internet options I click apply or ok and my computer freezes up then as well.  All that's on the computer is the original OS from the setup disks with no updates and I had not been on the internet when the problem started.  I also can't get my Yahoo email page to load on this same computer, but it loads fine on other computers.  Is this just a problem of needing updates from HP, Microsoft, or a hardware problem.  If so what do I do to fix it, me knowing the Yahoo email problem may not have anything to do with my computer, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Hi jimmieroberts,
Click on the Start button and scroll until you find Internet Explorer. Now right mouse click on IE and then select Open File Location. A folder will appear showing iexployer.exe. Left click and drag the iexplore.exe to the desktop to create a shortcut.
You might consider "pin" IE to the taskbar. When you are in the Start button and find IE, right mouse click on IE and select Pin to Taskbar. Click just once and then IE will launch.

  • A weird looking icon in notification area.

    Hello friends,
I own a Blackberry 9300 and recently I have had this weird looking icon in my notification area. It looks like some sort of sundial (the clock replacement we used when we did not have clocks) with a red star and 1 written before it. Tried every app, message, etc. etc. but to no avail.
I would upload the picture (I have munched the screen using an app), were it not for my knowledge of how to upload pictures on forums.
If anyone has the slighest idea on this, please help!
    Thank you.

  • Office 2013 Upload Center do not display in notification area

    Hello,
I am wanting to hide the Upload centre system task tray icon for Office 2013 on all of our pc's in my organisation, I have found many articles on disabling the service from starting, but this is not my intention.
Instead I wish to use either a registry setting (that I'll set in either the OCT or GPP), an option in the 2013 OCT tool or a setting in the Office 2013 group policy templates to just untick the box that says "Display icon in notification area"
which will still allow the Upload Center to work and be launched from the start menu but will free up Task Tray real estate.
If anyone knows what registry setting will do this that would be great, ideally a machine based setting so I can include it with the OCT, however if it is a user setting I will use Group Policy Preferences to deploy it.

    Hi,
I captured the registry key by ProcessMonitor, you can test if this works for you:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\FileIO
    Value:DisableNotificationIcon
If the value is set to 1, the icon is not displayed; if the value is set to 0, the icon is displayed.

  • Gnome notification area (Solved)

So i've been browsing the ubuntuforums since lucid was released and noticed that they all have nice looking icons in the notification area. They're unified icons, which i can't seem to get in gnome in arch.
Here's a screenshot to show what i'm talking about:
    http://i.imgur.com/9WG48.jpg
It doesn't seem to be just the lucid icon theme which achieves this, as that screenshot is using elementary icons. I've searched the AUR and can't find any modded notification area...
Anybody got an idea how Arch can have this look?
BTW i'm not talking about the OSD, i already have that..

Maybe there are some to your taste in this one:

Don't know which package holds the elemntary icons in ubuntu, artwork/gnome or something? you should be able to extract them from there

  • Can't get rid of Nvidia notification area icon

    Hi All,
Suddenly, out of nowhere, the Nvidia notification are icon keeps appearing and I cannot get rid of it permanently for love nor money!
If I deselect it by unticking the option in both the notification area icon and in the main Nvidia control panel... it just pops again when I close my laptop and reopen it.
Driving me crazy... anyone got any ideas?
    Many Thanks

sometimes making those changes permanent requires a restart.

  • ? Best way to remove the notification area "Safely Remove" icon?

I have a new T500 running Vista64.  I've been able to customize it mostly to my liking.  But I still have a notification area icon called "Safely Remove Hardware."  When I click on it a window pops up allowing me to "safely remove" the Ma*shi*ta DVD drive.  I will never remove this hardware.
There are pretty clear methods that disable this icon and seemingly work perfectly for nVidia installations of serial ATA drives, but this T500/Vista64 setup doesn't have those drivers or the registry key that is modified.  I am aware that I can customize the notification area to "hide inactive icons" (via Taskbar properties) but there is only this one icon and it does not serve a purpose.  I am certain that there is a benign way to remove the icon that does not involve other software (like RemoveSRHI) and only removes the icon as it pertains to the "removable" Ma*shi*ta DVD drive.  Any temporary hardware, like a flash drive, that needs this will still display the icon.  The nVidia setups simply add a registry fix to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvata by adding a DWord "DisableRemovable." I've read from quite a few successful users of this registry fix and there doesn't seem to be a downside.
Does someone that knows a lot more about these drivers know if the DisableRemovable DWord can be added to a different key that's in my setup so the icon isn't displayed?  I'm guessing there are thousands of T500 users that would thank you!    Many Thanks,  Ben

I remember having this happen on my Toshiba, and since I never safely removed anything, I hid it.
Since you're still wanting to use it to remove USB drives, etc. I found a dandy program, it allows you to hide devices you don't want to stop. I've never used it, but the domain said it all for me: http://www.safelyremove.com/
Hope it works for you, it did for someone else in a forum I visted via some Googling.

  • Premier Elements 11 icons near the notification area.

Premier Elements 11 puts red icons on the taskbar near the notification area. What are these and why are they not removed when the application is closed? The only way they "go away" is to restart the computer.

I wish that I could offer some help, but have not observed any icons being added. It might be something that I felt was common behavior, and did not pay close attention to it/them, or maybe something that I have just never seen.
Perhaps others will recognize those icons, from the description, and be of more help.
    One question:
They apparently relate to something that was in my project; an adjustment to a video clip perhaps. If I right click on one of the icons a menu pops up.
When you clicked on those icons, and got a pop-up menu, what did that menu contain? That might be helpful in others recognizing what the icons relate to.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS6 - Does CS6 SDK provide a dialog box whose icon can be adjusted?

    I am porting a CS5 plug in to CS6.
My plugin contains 1 main form and some alert dialogs which are independent to the main
(e.g. a "Help" dialog box shows when users click at AI > Help > [My Plug-in Help] button).
The main form which uses Flash UI is done.
But the "Help" dialog has a problem.
I want to use CS6 SDK to show a dialog with my specified icon, not the warning icon as default.
    # I tried the alerts in AIUserSuite but none of them is appropriated.
Does CS6 SDK provide a dialog box whose icon can be adjusted?

    Thank you LeoTaro.
But my implementation made AI crashed after PlugPlugLoadExtension is called.
Please tell me the wrong points of my practice. Thank you!
    LeoTaro wrote:
    1. Create an mxml file for the About dialog in the same way as you did for your main panel.
    MainScreen.mxml
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
                    xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
                    width="865" height="545"

    2. In your manifest.xml file add an Extension entry for the dialog in the ExtensionList and in the DispatchInfoList.
    3. In the Extension entry in the DispatchInfoList set AutoVisible to false
I cannot edit manifest.xml by Flash Builder (it just does not allow me to type there)
so I used Notepad++ to add HelpScreen extension as you mentioned.
and don't include a Menu setting.
I don't how to do this so I skipped it for temporary.
Then, I rebuilt the project by Flash Builder.
    4. You can then use the PlugPlugLoadExtension and PlugPlugUnloadExtension functions in the PlugPlug shared library to show and hide the dialog from your plugin.
Finally, since some conducted steps are incorrect, the AI is crashed after PlugPlugLoadExtension is called.

  • Gnome Fallback-Huge spacing between notification area icons

So, just went in the fallback mode in Gnome, I really like it, but there's way too much space between the icons in the notification area.
I have managed to make them a bit smaller ( http://askubuntu.com/questions/69576/ho … ssic-panel ), but I'd like to fix the spacing too.
This is how they look on my PC: http://i.imgur.com/lVldy.png
The space is not even equally distributed.
    I could use some help.
    Thanks.

If somebody knows how to fix this, please share.

  • Gnome Shell notification area icon problem

    Hello everybody,
I am using Arch Linux with gnome-shell. I've installed different themes and everything went fine. However, one day
my notification area for Empathy and Skype had exactly the same icons as Dropbox. You can see it in the attached image.
Is there any way to sort this problem out?
    Thank you

you would have to wonder how this could be a driver issue.... Incredibly it is... affecting only  x86_64 bits on newer nvidia drivers.
Had to post this as I had the problem and my first search got this thread. First answer wasnt useful appart from telling you to search more (ironic when u get there from a search engine ) so I'll make the job easier in case more people stumble upon this thread.
As of now there isnt no known fix. wait for new nvidia driver... switch to nouveau are basically the 2 options

  • Notification area icon is jagged and aliased (Windows 7)

As you can see the notification bar icon for iTunes looks like something out of the 90s.

That you have encountered this in other apps suggests a flaw in a library common to those apps and to Spotify or some particular tool that was used to build them.  I was able to replicate it on three different Win7 machines with two different CPU and graphics configurations. I couldn’t replicate it on a Windows 10 upgrade of one of those but I regard that machine as experimental until other apps more critical to me have been confirmed or made compatible with Windows 10.  Windows 7 will be my workhorse for some time, so the best workaround for me is to accept the “close button should minimize Spotify” setting and the risk of leaving it active in the notification area while streaming to no one. The alternative workaround is to refresh the non-Aero desktop after closing it. It’s a second click either way.

  • Photoshop CC icons and text are too small: how to adjust so they're readable? [was: Joanne]

I have just downloaded Creative Cloud on a new computer.  The new photoshop icons and text are too small for me to see or work with.  I cannot seem to adjust this so its "useable"

    Hey Bob,
Ive put feature requests for this in before and I know many others have as well. Is there any way to see if Adobe is actually working on this? I dont really consider this a feature request, it should be standard with the software. A feature request would be something like creative cloud libraries, not the ability to make font sizes and icons bigger.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
