Can't allocate custom ringtones/songs to contacts...

i can't allocate songs to contacts like i had on other phones... is there any way to do this? the songs are already on the phone, so i thought there'd be no problem...

Have you converted the songs into 30 second ringtones? To use a song as a ringtone, you need to turn it into a ringtone.

1. Set any of your songs on your SDcard as a phone ringtone:
Touch Apps > My music
While the music is playing, touch the phone Menu Key > More > Use as ringtone
The ringtone is set as your default incoming call ringtone and copied to your Phone ringtone list.
Note: The above instructions are for the My music player and not for other players such as Play music.      2. Choose Phone ringtones through settings menu:
Press the Menu key
Touch Settings
Touch Sound
Touch Phone ringtone (If option is greyed out, make sure handset volume is not set to Silent Mode)
Select a Phone ringtone from the list. Press OK to set. (Music files you have set as Incoming Call ringtone from your SDcard will be included in this list along with downloaded and preloaded ringtones.
3. Customize the text message ringtone
From the homescreen or from within the applications tray, touch Text messaging
Press the Menu key (On the left with 4 squares)
Touch Messaging Settings
Touch Select ringtones (if option is greyed out, make sure Notifications is turned on / actived)
Touch on any Notification ringtone to select and hear a sample.
Press OK to set as notification ringtone
CLICK HERE for instructions on creating your own custom ringtone for Text Messages
4. Assign a ringtone to a specific contact:
Press Contacts icon on homescreen or tap on Contacts application from the Applications Tray
Touch and select the specific contact
Press the menu key
Touch Options
Touch V (down) icon next to Ringtone
Choose a Phone ringtone from the list and tap OK to set.
Note: To assign a music/song from your memory card as a ringtone, first follow step1 above and follow step 4 again. 5. Download ringtones from the Play Store
From the applications menu, touch Play Store
Touch search to search for ringtones.

Custom Ringtone for your Contacts on Nokia N900

Hey guys,
Its great to know that We got Nokia N900 in India now.
Many of people searching for custom ringtone for their contacts. I have installed app for it and worked great, here is the screen of how to do it.
1-goto app manager and download Ringtino app ( name specified in attached screen )
2-goto contact and click on title not edit contact, u will get " custom Ringtone " as like my screen.
Let me know if anything needed.

Can't transfer customized ringtones to iPhone6

Hey guys!
I took songs from my iTunes library and made them into ringtones using Garage Band. Before, I was able to transfer the customized ringtones onto my other iPhone which was a 4S. I now have the iPhone 6 and I can't seem to transfer my old ringtones or new ones on to my new phone. Can someone help me please?!

WHOA. So right now, I gave it another shot but dragging and dropping the tones onto my phone and now it worked. IDK what happened before and why it worked this time because I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DIFFERENT.

Can't import custom ringtones

I just updated my iTunes to the latest 10.6 version, iPhone4(5.1.1), currently using Windows 7. Now I can't drag and drop custom ringtones/text tones I want, although I was able to before. I follow the usual change from mp3 to m4r, and that usually gets me the + sign the add to the ringtone section of iTunes, but now instead of a + sign, all it says is "link" and if I try and drag my file, nothing actually happens. I can't even play the .m4r version in iTunes either-- it opens up, but nothing happens. The file is also under 30 seconds (only 3 seconds long). I haven't changed my settings, so I'm wondering what's going on now.
I can drop the mp3 file into iTunes though and that works perfectly, just not the m4r for text tones...

I actually downloaded the link through an email I got.
I do have the Tones library in addition to other custom ringtones I have. It still only shows up as "Link" instead of a "+" sign.

I assigned specific custom ringtones to specific contacts on my iPhone 4. When I sync my new iPhone 5, will those contacts automatically still have those ringtones assigned to them, or will I have to go into each contact and manually reassign them again?

Just wondering if it's possible to sync iPhone 5 in a way that automatically keeps my contacts from my iPhone 4 with the same custom ringtones. Or will I have to re-assign them all manually?

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

Can you make custom ringtone for iPhone 4 w/o using iTunes?

My computer crashed and I had to redownload iTunes and all my music the other day. I plugged my iPhone 4 in to put a custom ringtone I made in iTunes on it and it says it wants to "erase and sync" my phone since it was connected to my old iTunes. Is there a way to fix this or is there a way to make a new custom ringtone for my iphone without using iTunes?

Hello,
I created a ringtone in Garageband, "shared" it as a ringtone to itunes, synced to phone, see this ringtone under "ringtones" on the iphone in itunes when the phone is connected, but cannot find it or use it on the actual phone.
I have tried several times by re-syncing but no luck. All I see are the original ringtones that came with the phone.

Highlight the file in iTunes and open "get info" by cmd+click or right click>>get info.
Make sure that the extension of the file is .m4r
Since you are not able to drag it out of iTunes on your desktop, it tells me that the extension could be something else other than what it should be i.e. .m4r. Also, hence, when you try to add it to your iPhone the file is being treated as a music file thereby trying to replace what you have in your music section of your iPhone.
If the file extension is not .m4r, this is what you need to do -
1. Locate the file on your macintosh hard drive for this -
2. Click your finder>>music>>iTunes>>iTunes music and then look for a folder called Unknown.
Note - If your iTunes library is not "clean" with random songs without artists, albums, etc. you might have more than one folders by name "Unknown" or some variant of it. So look around and locate the file on the hard drive.
3. Drag it out on your desktop
4. Right click and change the extension to .m4r
5. Save and double click so that it gets imported back into iTunes and starts playing too on your mac
6. You will find it under Ringtones. Sync in back on your iPhone.
Hopefully it will go well for you this time around.

Exchange Synced Contacts Lose Custom Ringtones After 24 Hours

Currently running iPhone 3GS with 3.1 against a Windows Exchange 2003 Server utilizing Active Sync. Once I assign custom ringtones to my contacts (that are synced from Exchange) after about 24 hours all ringtones are reverted back to Default.
Anyone else having this issue or is there a solution?

Actually, I thought a system update does do a backup and restore. I thought it wiped out the data, applied the system OS, then restored the data. Otherwise how would all of the settings, applications, and other data be in the same status as before the update? In any case, I wouldn't have thought that all contact data would need to be re-applied afterwards. But actually my main problem, aside from this, is that my contacts are consistently losing their custom ringtones. I use push services for my contacts, and I can understand why re-population of my contact data loses them since a ringtone isn't a maintained data field in Exchange, but this situation only makes it worse if I'll lose ringtones after every system update.

Naw I figure it out without all that had to go into the FaceTime settings and only use the phone number on the iphone and only use the Apple ID on the iPad works great now no need for two Apple ID or any signing in and out.

Apple's Free Custom Ringtones

I haven't seen this mentioned today in this forum but Apple quietly upgraded Garageband to allow the making of custom iPhone ringtones. It is now very easy to do and Garageband sports an icon for importing your custom ringtone (taken from just about any source) into iTunes and into your iPhone. Easy instructions on my blog if you can't figure it out.

Here it is,step by step:
Open Garage Band
Create New Music Project
If keyboard comes up, delete it.
Open iTunes
Grab a song and drop it on the "Drag Apple Loops Here" area.
It comes up in a long bar kind of thing. Make sure (by dragging) it is at the beginning of the bar.
Hit the Share button
Send to Ringtones
It tells you it is too long, let it adjust.
That gives you a little yellow bar on the measuring line above the song line.
You can extend that yellow bar by dragging either end to make the song longer/shorter.
Drag the bar to where you want it - hit play a few times to make sure you have the section you want.
Hit the Share button again and send to iTunes.
It plays in iTunes in the Ringtone folder.
Rename it in itunes to identify.
Now to import into iPhone.
Plug in iPhone
Go to Ringtones Tab
Select Sync ringtones - select Selected ringtones
and your ringtone will be listed.
It may sound complicated but it is really easy.
Once in your iPhone, go to contacts and select the custom ringtone for your contact.
