Can't anchor TOC pane

I'm using RoboHelp x5. In my CHM file, you can actually move
the entire TOC pane up and down and left and right. (I'm not
talking about the ordinary functionality that lets you expand or
contract how much of the titles you see.) I'm talking about the
entire pane. I need to "anchor" the TOC so that you can't move it.
I've looked at the "Windows" settings and they're exactly the same
as in some other CHMs done with x5. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I believe this is controlled by a TOC "Style" attribute.
Expand your Single Source Layouts. Right click the Microsoft HTML
Help layout and choose Properties. Now click the Advanced...
button. Now the TOC Styles tab. Finally, I'm guessing the suspect
file has a check mark in the check box labeled: "Dialog Frame".
DE-select this and recompile. Then test.

Child TOC pane blank in merged CHM set-up

We are experiencing an issue with our TOC pane when viewing a child CHM in a merged set-up. The TOC appears completely blank although the index and search work successfully. If the parent help file is launched all works as expected with the TOC displayed regardless of which topic is selected from it. However if a child project is launched, the TOC does not display.
We are using the method of merging CHMs that involves adding the parent project's .HHC file to the Advanced Window properities of each child project. We have also amended the .HHP file of each child to include the relevant [MERGED FILES] section. All of this is highlighted in Rob Chandlers article on the subject and has worked in the past. Remove the reference to the parent .HHC file from the window properties and it all works but we need to this for context sensitive help calls so that the child CHM is called yet display the parent TOC.
However we were using RHX5 then and now we are using RH8 and it appears this method no longer works. Has anyone else come up against this, and more importantly found a solution?

Thanks very much for the response. Unfortunately using conditional build tags is a must for us so we have to compile inside RH. We are very near code freeze so at this late stage do not wish to change anything drastically. The CHM is only being distributed as a backup in case any of our users don't have an internet connection.
For now I think we'll live with it annoying as it is . If you can find out about what your app is doing that would be useful to know and we'll see if we can change the app post release.

How to show the TOC pane in Webhelp

I'm using RoboHelp 7 for HTML to produce Webhelp projects.
I find that whenever I compile the project, once it is embedded in the software application it is intended for, the TOC, Index and Search pane does not display automatically. Instead, there is a "Show" link at the top left of the topic window. When you select it, the pane is displayed.
The application users are complaining that they can't navigate the help because there is no TOC! It hasn't occurred to them to click on the "Show" link. Is there any way the TOC pane can be made to display automatically?

It is because of the way your developers are calling the help. They seem to be using direct URLs to the topics. See Calling WebHelp using URLs on my site.

I can't change the pan / zoom duration in Premiere Elements 13

Ok I'm getting really frustrated especially after I just watched a video tutorial which clearly shows how to do this in Premiere Elements 10 and I have JUST purchased version 13!
What I'm not able to adjust is the speed or duration between focus frames in a pan / zoom; after it's set up.
You are supposed to be able to go into the PAN TOOL, and either click on the pan duration, or in the In the Pan Time dialog, scrub the time duration to the desired value, or enter a value in the dialog box, OR simply adjust / drag the focus frame markers in the timeline (like in the video tutorial I watched...) to change the pan duration. In my software at least NONE of these work. (All these from: Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Pan and zoom to create video-like effect)
I can't click on the pan duration, well if I do nothing happens, I can't even get a Pan Time Dialog box; so I can't do it that way; and lastly I can't click and adjust the focus frame markers in the timeline....none of it works and I can hardly believe that this is correct...the only way that I can adjust the pan time, is to delete the effect completely and start it over...this can't be correct can it??
Any help would be appreciated!!!

Ok yep you are great, so I'm sorry I'm attempting to do it on video clips, not stills.
I was aware that the last versions of PE had similar Pan and Zoom workspaces, that's why I knew or thought I knew that my situation could be solved.
The first link that you recommend is exactly where I got the third paragraph of my question, so I had already reviewed that and to me when you read the directive it still makes it sound like you can adjust the focus frame markers....? (very confusing)
The second link you sent might have helped me realize that the tool doesn't work the same way for Stills and it does for Video clips; (I really think like on the Adobe web site this difference should be markedly more clear to help with confusion; but in their defense maybe it's me being slow to understand)
I was able to figure out some of the difference through perseverance last night, and did figure out (like your last link explains) that you can move the CTI and then add a new focus frame...BUT I still have my original question...how can you adjust the pan duration on a video clip after it's been made and you have left the pan and zoom tool like if you want to edit that timing... I think the answer is that you can't lol, I think it has to be deleted or a new focus frame added and the other deleted to adjust the timing...am I correct?

You can work with focus frames in videos the same way that you work with focus frames for images. However, only those options that are relevant to movie clips appear in the pan and zoom tool.
I think maybe the last sentence is attempting to explain that but it's just so ambiguous...

Photoshop has to have full administrator rights to have read/write access.
This means you need to run Photoshop CS5.1 in an Administrator account and set it up to "Run as Administrator."
1. Close Photoshop if it's open.
2. Right click on your Photoshop CS5.1 launch icon then select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. (You will have to enter Admin Password if UAC is enabled to change this setting.)
3. Launch Photoshop CS5.
4. See if you create and save a document.
Even if you are in an Administrator account you have to do this as Vista's Admin account isn't really the Super Admin as it is in XP so you have to elevate the rights by selecting "Run as Administrator". This setting is sticky so you should only have to do this once. I am not sure why CS3 is suddenly acting as if it does't have Admin rights unless you are running it in a new account that isn't an administrator or maybe uninstalled (cleanScript?) then reinstalled.
If can't create or save a document, check that the account that Photoshop is in is an Administrator account.
To check if you are in an Administrator account...
1. Type user account in your Vista or Windows7 start search bar. (Start search bar is at the bottom of the panel that opens when you click the start Windows start globe located on the far left hand side of your Windows task bar.)
2. Click on "User Accounts" which should show up at the top of the list. This will open the dialog to User Accounts where you can "Change Your Account Type". If UAC (User Account Control) is turned on, you will need to enter the Admin password to change this setting.

How can I anchor my document while editing in adobe reader on my android tablet? While underling & etc. Undesired movement & page changes.

Correct. If you do not have an iOS device or a Mac running Mavericks, do not buy Apple iBooks. They will be unreadable.

You can call individual files in the output or use a window to hide the tri-pane. But you can still use context sensitive help calls. See:

If you really don't want all the extra scripts and pages to be generated, create XHTML output using the XML Output SSL. This will output plain HTML files without TOC, Index, etc. But you also lose the TOC completely.

In the TOC pane can i add at tab for slide notes?

I have a project where on the pane side where the TOC is located, I would like to add tabs that would allow the user to pull up a thumbnail view of slides or notes for that slide that is being viewed.

Can I anchor within a PDF to other points in that PDF?

You can create links and buttons anywhere you want. The bookmarking feature is used by many to create a TOC replacement. If you original application supports it you can create links within your original document. This can be done with InDesign, FrameMaker, and probably with <shudder> Word </shudder>

How can we align TOC and Navigation bar for Captivate 4 Aggregator Project?

I had this issue too. What I discovered was that some of the slides in one of my presentations were off the screen. Some because I had dropped pictures onto a blank slide, and others because I switched background images on recorded slides and didn't merge the images into the existing background. After fixing those issues and republishing, I put the revised .swf into the aggregator and it worked.

Help!! Can't access TOC, Index, and Glossary

Help!!! I renamed my project. Then I renamed the TOC, Index, and Glossary-which I know I shouldn't have done. Now I cannot access them within my project. I tried to rename them back, but now I have both sets or named TOC,index, and Glossary, and neither works when I open my project. I have a copy of the chm with the correct TOC, Index, and Glossary. Can I extract them from this?

Did you perform the renaming from the Rename functionality inside RoboHelp? If so there is no reason why you can't rename projects, TOCs, Indexes or Glossaries. Can you tell us what version of RoboHelp you are using and exactly what TOC, Index and Glossary are being displayed inside the project. An image may help us here which you can post by using the icon below.

Can't locate "Info" pane on iTunes to download Contacts

I want to download my Outlook contacts onto my new iPod Touch. When i open iTunes, i can't find the "Info" pane. The last tab is "Photos" and i can't seem to stretch the screen any wider to find "Info".

Can't add bluetooth pan device in Osx Lion

I'm trying to share my wifi connection using bluetooth on Lion.
The advanced option in the bluetooth settings to share your internet connection is gone (was there in Snow Leopard).
That's why I manually want to add a Bluetooth Pan device so I can enable internet sharing. But there is only a Bluetooth DUN device available.
Is Pan support removed from Lion or is there a way to add the pan device using the terminal (ifconfig?)

Looks I'm a bit closer, but not there yet either.
In my Sharing preferences, under 'Share your connection from' I find the options: Wifi, Bluetooth DUN and Bluetooth PAN (and some other not related)
Under 'To computers using' I have the option 'Bluetooth PAN'
This was available since updating to Lion, so I didn't add any of those afterwards.
Since I'm on a wife hotel connection with my MBP (Lion) I selected Wifi for the incoming and Bluetooth PAN for the sharing towards my iPad.
Paired my iPad with the MBP, but still can't access internet on the iPad.
Not sure if it is related, but in Bluetooth preferences, when selecting my iPhone 3GS, under services appears: PAN Network Access Profile; this service doesn't appear when selecting my iPad
And under Network preferences, when selecting Bluetooth PAN, the only device I can select is my iphone, not my ipad;
Would it be the PAN Network Access Profile that is missing on my iPad; anyone knows how I would get it on there?

How can one use automatic panning effectively in captivate 8 ?

I am trying to capture some screen sessions ina software tool ( it is eclipse based, many out there will be familiar with eclipse) , and occasionally i would like to pan there and zoom. there is an automatic setting in captivate 8, but i don;t see any examples of how to use it. i see that there are limits to what can be done automagocally, but adding everything afterwards is very time consuming. i have added a discussion point from a related cap 7 discussion below. there should be awa y for a user to set the thresholds, so it works to suit the needs of the creator.

There have been some changes in the auto-panning behavior of Captivate across versions.
The most note-worthy change being increase in the tolerance bounds beyond which auto-pan kicks in.
In earlier versions, when the mouse moves beyond (approx) 1/4th the dimensions of the recording area away from the center of the recording area, auto-pan would get triggered.
In recent versions, this tolerance limit has been increased to 1/2 of the dimensions of the recording area away from the center of the recording area. In other words, the mouse has to fall on the edges of or further away from the recording area. This has been done to reduce unwanted panning when mouse is well within the recording area.
If this is unsuitable for you and you want the recording to involve a pan action when you move the mouse cursor to the menu item, you may reduce the height of the recordig area before you start recording. This way, when the mouse cursor reaches the menu item, it would fall outside the recording area and an auto-pan will get triggered.
Please let us know if that worked

In this case the example is for org based security. However, you just need to change it so that you are checking whichever column in the row holds the owner of the row against a session variable which is intialised to hold the id of the logged in user.

Can I anchor a frame to text "relative to margin"?

Hi there.
I have text as such.
I want to anchor the icons with the 5s in them to the text,
Two questions:
1. instead of doing it "relative to the spine" I want it to be relative to the margin
2. if it is on the right side, I want it to flip vertically.
Any help would be appreciated.

There is no setting to do it relatively to margin, only relatively to spine.
Not possible with the means of InDesign.
I am sure that both requirements can be done at the end via scripting.
