Can't animate particles properly
Hello all,
I am experiencing a curious issue with Motion 3. I need to move a particle generator along a path (it's a fire simulating a shot, fyi), but something escapes me. If I drag, say, Oil Fire into the Canvas, I can easily set its position wherever I want. Now, if I hit record, move along a bit and set a keyframe, and try to drag the systen somewhere else, the centre of it won't really move - or not as expected: it sort of changes shape, but it will not follow the path. Difficult to explain in words... I am quite sure the procedure is correct, because if I do the same on whatever shape or clip and animate the Position parameters, everything works perfectly. Somewhere else in this forum someone suggested that the generator itself should be animated, but it doesn't seem to work. Is there something that escapes me?

That should work - make sure you are animating the emitter itself.

Animate Particles Using Image Source Alpha Mask - Outline
I am trying to animate particles emitted from the outline of an alpha mask. I can get the emitter to see the mask, but only as a rectangular bounding box. How do I get the particles to be emitted from the organic shape within the mask? I created the alpha mask in Motion.

I see what you're talking about: using the alpha for Fll or Random Fill seems to work fine, but using the alpha with Outline doesn't seem to work (except using the outline of the whole bounding box).
Maybe a bug, though I would guess that generating an outline path from an alpha channel would be an expensive process, computing-wise. It makes sense if you have a relatively simple alpha with a single "blob" of solidity, but if you had a complex (noisy) alpha, it would be a royal pain to solve.

I can not load gmail properly. It refuses to load and suggests loading Basic HTML for slow connections. I do not have a slow connection and have no problem loading gmail in Explorer. This is happening on both Firefox and Firefox Developer. The Firefox Developer problem just happened with the new upload this evening. Regular Firefox has been happening for a couple of months. It happens on both my work computer and my home computer. I tried everything suggested including the suggestion to delete cookies, cache, and the cookies.sqlite file.
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

2006 iMac running 10.4 OS. I copied files to ext. drive. Put in 10.6 disc and did a clean install (format) of 10.6. Copied data from ext. drive back to Mac. I didn't get all the files. CAN I REVERT BACK TO THE 10.4 OS SO I CAN COPY MY DATA PROPERLY?
How did you copy files to the external drive, and what files did you copy? Did you drag and drop in the Finder? Use a clone utility? What files did not successfully copy?
If you reformatted the drive as part of your install, then you won't be able to recover any files from the drive. Reverting back to (reinstalling) 10.4 will not help you.
Do you have a complete-drive backup of your old system?

Hello, I have an iPod touch and it don't has light or brightness. I can see the icons and use it but can get it work properly. I went to settings and the brightness is adjusted tu full level. Any idea?
Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc. -
I plug my ipod into my computer itunes pops up with error message "Ipod detected but can't be identified properly" suggests I unplug and try again or uninstall itunes and reinstall nothing works. What should i do?

Try a different pdf reader, like GoodReader.
Try switching your OS to Chinese (or English, if it is already in Chinese).
Verify that the pdf does display correctly on a full computer. -
I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?
I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:

I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake -

The objective of my use is to have Edge Animate OPEN/IMPORT an SVG file with many other SVG elements then animate just one item. For example, below is a flight instrument that I want to animate just the needle. How could that be done? Or is Edge Animate the wrong tool?

Can you animate an arrow in Keynote???
I just saw Al Gore's movie on DVD "An Inconvenient Truth" and was floored by the presentation, animated graphics etc.
(1) Where all those animated graphics done in Keynote?
(2) Can I animate an arrow in Keynote if I want to show an army moving across a map in the form of an arrow that keeps growing in length and snaking its way across a map. Is this possible in Keynote???

PowerMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)I've not seen the Gore movie (yet) so I can't talk about it specifically.
There's basic animation capabilities in Keynote only, but people have been pushing it pretty hard. Kyn in here has some good examples of what can be done (I can't remember his homepage link now but I'm sure he'll post into this thread). For more sophisticated stuff the animation is done in another tool and then saved as a Quicktime movie and that is then used in Keynote. If you use an alpha channel then you can have the movie animation float over your keynote slide. The keynotepro folks (I love their themes) have a movie pack of arrows etc. you can purchase (I have it). Thanks for the response. I understand that the spiders only see html code, but when the final render is in the browser AE has added a whole series of div tags. This can be seen when using the F12 mode in Chrome.

How advanced can you animate a character in Flash?
Hello, I learned the bone tool a while back, and i was just wondering can you animate a charachter using advanced AS3? to move hands and facial muscles or even clothing to fall around a charachter as they move? or is there a way to do this using Flash and AS3? because i am interested in doing an advanced flash animation. thanks.
whether it looks choppy or not depends on your frame rate (flash can help) and the amont of change from one frame to the next (not something flash can help you with).
if you have changes like, shape, position, color, rotation, skew etc, flash can animate those without the need for frame-by-frame animation. -

i mean, i have 1 video clip showing a tree. and then i have 1 .jpg image of an airplane
how can i make that airplane from jpg image to appear in the video showing the tree? i want to make that airplane crash into the tree and explode.
i see a lot of similar stuff on youtube (like "cyriak animation mix") but i don't know what this technique is called. animation of still images? google search gave me lots of dubious results, none of them came straight to the point.
all i know it involves some manipulation of keyframes but i need to know more keywords to further research this technique. or better yet - find a decent article explaining basics.
can somebody help?First, you will probably want to Key out the background around the plane. Look into Chorma Key, or one of the other Keying Effects in PrE, depending on how the plane was shot, or created. If you created it, you can probably Mask out any background, and Save_As a format, that support Transparency, such as with an Alpha Channel Mask.
Then, with the plane on a higher Video Track, than your tree, use the Fixed Effect>Motion>Position to Keyframe the Position of the plane, moving it across the Frame. I cannot find my photos that I sync'ed from my iPhone4S to my PC. More recent photos no longer appear in the Sync directory. What can I do to properly sync them?
Not sure what you mean by "sync" -- Apple uses the term "sync" for transferring photos from the computer to the phone and uses the term "import" for transferring them the direction you asked about.
For importing to the computer the following has directions (which for Windows 7 links to the Microsoft support site since the transfer is handled by Windows 7 the same as it would import from any camera:) Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC
