Can't apply episode retention settings to podcasts

My large number of podcasts are set to check for (and download) new episodes every day, and to keep all episodes. Unfortunately, I rarely have time to listen to them. In my iTunes app, a large number of episodes have accumulated under each podcast. I changed the Podcast Defaults to keep only the 3 most recent episodes. All the podcasts are set to Use Default Settings, so I expected to be able to click Refresh and have every podcast clean out all episodes except for the most recent three. This didn't happen; my first question if whether anyone can explain what I might be doing wrong.
My current alternative is to manually delete the older episodes in each podcast. Ugh. My second question is whether there a more automated way to do this in iTunes? I want the computer to do all the repetitive work.

Right... deleting that particular range input solves the problem as well .

After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Podcasts app. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

I can't view the episode list of my podcast

When I try to view the episode list of my podcast (Murphy's Saloon) to check if current episodes are actually getting listed in iTunes, I can do a search with no problem, and iTunes shows me that the show is there.
But when I click on the show icon, I get an error message "Could not complete the Music Store request. The store may be busy. Check your internet connection, or try again later."
My connection is fine, thankyouverymuch, and I've tried at a wide variety of different times for almost two weeks.
Now what?
Could this somehow be related to the number of episodes I have available (more than 20)?

I don't know how podcasting via the iTMS is organized (only listen to them), so don't expect an expert opinion from me.
This is what I experienced:
Search OK. Only 1 episode found. Clicked on the artwork to go to the podcast. Got the message "Could not complete etc."
Well, there's nothing wrong with my Internet connection either.
Other podcasts work fine.
So, my layman's opinion is that there is something wrong at the iTMS.
Clicked the 'Subscribe' button. All 29 episodes listed. Downloading them was no problem at all (full speed on my DSL; 665 KB/s).
So there's nothing wrong with your Internet connection either.
These are just my findings and layman's opinion.
Can't suggest anything to solve it though.

How can i stop itunes from downloading a podcast?

on my itunes I have a subscription to a series of podcasts (screencastsonline) I therefore have a folder for the 2011 episodes.... that FOLDER has a GET button to the right... I have not at least I dont think I did press that GET button... when I clik on the arrow to open that folder I can then see each of the monthly podcasts with dates available and each of them has a GET button on the right. IF I see a particular episode that I actually want to download I just press the GETbutton... there are many others that are available that I can download but have not actually pressed the GET button to do so yet...
My problem is that when I open itunes each time it automatically starts downloading all available podcasts in that folder and to stop it the only thing I can see to do is to laborously clik the circled "X" to the right of each title to stop the download.
I have highlighted the mail "2011 episodes" folder and then pressedthe settings button at the bottom..and when it opens Iuncheck the "default settings"and change the "when new episodes are available" selection TO DO NOTHING. BUT STILL when I open Itunes the next time it does the same thing and I have to then manually
clik the circled x button. how do I fix this please

Episode Syncing and Played Podcasts

Ever since I've had my Touch (about six months) it has never consistently synced the "played" settings of podcasts. Often I will listen to a podcast all the way through on my Touch and then, after I sync with iTunes, the same podcast will show up on my Touch again as "New" (never listened to). Very frustrating. I deal with it by just skipping through to the podcast I want to hear.
But even worse is what's been happening with my TV Show episodes. For whatever reason, my Touch is not syncing them in order!! When I purchased a new season of X-files, all the episodes were, of course, "new" and "never played." I set my Touch to sync the "3 least recent unwatched" episodes of TV Shows.
After syncing, my Touch had episodes 1, 3, and 5 on it! And what ***** is that, with the new iPod software (2.1) I can no longer read the episode number! The line under the Episode title says, "Season 2, Episod... 10/14/94" The date causes the episode to be cut off, so when I'm out and about, I can't even tell if I'm watching the right episode or not! Agh! I just watched two episodes out of order without even knowing it!
Very frustrating. If anyone knows how to get iTunes to sync properly, I'd appreciate it.

Any Luck? I just bought a 2nd gen Touch and it constantly syncs already played podcasts as new.(audio and video) What a pile of **. This is driving me nuts.. I never had a problem with my 5th gen syncing.

Different settings per podcast

Is it possible to set different settings per podcast.
E.g.
* I want to keep all episodes from my favourite
weekly radio show.
* I only want to keep *the latest* podcast of the CNN news
update.
IS Apple reading this group?? Tjis would be a really helpful setting in iTunes ;-)!!

Apple does not read this group, at least not publicly. What you'd want to do is submit a feature request. Unfortunately, this has gotten somewhat hard to do; the page that used to let you do it is now exclusively for music store requests. You can try submitting it there (http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html), but there's no proof that they pay any attention to feature requests there.

Keep 5 episodes of only certain podcasts

Hi, I have subscribed to a number of podcasts which are being synced to my iPhone. By default, only the "un-listened" podcasts are synced to the iPhone.
However, what I would like to happen is that for all podcasts only the "un-listened" episodes get synced except podcast A and B where I would like the last 5 episodes to be sync, regardless of whether they have been listened to or not.
I was able to find the setting in iTunes where I can select the number of episodes and select the podcasts to keep but that removes all other, unselected podcasts.
Can any one help with info on how to set those settings?

I think I understand what you're asking. I will describe my setup which is a bit different, and maybe you can take away something useful from it.
There is one really funny episode of NPR's "Wait Wait" that I want to keep for ...not forever, but for a while. It was a 'greatest hits' kind of podcast.
The other weekly podcasts, I don't want in itunes after I have listened to them.
I highlighted the main NPR Wait Wait title. Went down to the Settings button and told itunes Episodes to keep: all unplayed episodes.
Then, still on the main NPR Wait Wait title, I right-clicked and chose *Allow Auto Delete*.
For the episode I want to keep, I right-clicked on that ONE episode and chose *Do Not Autodelete*. It does not get erased, but all the others do after I have listened to them.
As for my ipod, when it is plugged in, on the podcast tab I have it "Automatically include 1 most recently played of selected podcasts". Then I went down to NPR Wait Wait and put a checkmark by that greatest hits episode, so it always gets synced.
Other useful ipod settings are in itunes preferences > Devices
A checkmark next to "prevent ipods from sync automatically" and
"Warn when any data on this computer is changed"
After I sync my ipod, I have to refresh the itunes podcast page so the auto-delete occurs.

Itunes doesn't show all episodes of a subscribed podcast

I am new to itunes and couldn't find the answer to this question:
how can I see all episodes of a subscribed podcast? In my library it only shows the most recent one.

If you see an arrow pointing to the right, next to the titlem change it so that it's pointing downwards. That should show all the eps & download all the episodes.

How can I get the order of my podcast to appear correctly in the store?

When I subscribe to the podcast, the order is correct. However, in the store it is not. I just published the podcast to iTunes store and pubDate matches the physical order of the <item/> tags and that's what matches the podcast when subscribed (new on top).

If you enter your podcast name in the search field, then the results page apparently shows the episodes in popularity order - it may also bring up other podcasts with a similar title and then mix up episodes from the various podcasts.
If you go to your actual Store page - click on the icon for your podcast in the Search results, or go to the URL you were given in the acceptance email - then initially the Store sorts by the numbered column at left, which should give the order of episodes in the feed. You can click on the headers for the other columns to sort by title, date, etc. - when subscribing you get pubDate order and no opportunity to change it.

How can I apply the same crop to multiple photos?

It is easy to apply the same Adjust settings to multiple photos by using the Copy and Paste in the Adjust pane. Or by using iPhoto Batch Enhancer.
But can you apply the same crop to multiple photos? I don't see any way to copy a crop. iPhoto Batch Enhancer can do something like it but, being an external editor, it does so on a copy of the photo. I want it on the original photo. (Well, it's not really the original since that one is saved separately in the Library but on the current version).

Here's how:
1 - bring up the first photo in the edit window and click on the Crop button or *use the "C" key on the keyboard*.
2 - set the crop size/ratio in the menu and position the crop window over the photo as needed.
3 - click the Apply button or *use the Enter key*.
4 - click on the right arrow in iPhoto or *use the right arrow key on the keyboard* to bring up the next photo.
5 - click the "C" key to bring up the crop function.
6 - repeat steps 2 thru 5 for each photo.

Apply user layout settings for multiple users

Hi,
Does any of you know how to apply a saved user layout (like Pivot sorting, hidden key figures, etc) to multiple users? It is strange that you can create such saved layouts for eg Alert Monitor, but not for Interactive Planning... I have designed a special layout for my users but cant distribute it centrally now

You can't apply user settings of planning book to multiple users at a time.But in transacton /SAPAPO/SDPUSET you can copy these user settings to other users.

Apply System Configuration Settings Broken in SIU

I'm making a NetRestore image for a small lab with 14 MacBooks.
I want to apply Computer Name and Host Name and ByHost preferences to the clients.
I'm building a NetBoot image in System Image Utility using the Apply System Configuration Settings to Apply Computer Name and Hostname settings from a file, using a tab delimited file of MAC_Addresses(en0), Computer_Names and Hostnames. Here's a few example lines:
70:cd:60:28:13:14     Abana     Abana.local
70:cd:60:37:9f:ee     Abigail   Abigail.local
70:cd:60:38:8c:ea     Afra      Afra.local
Finally I'm using Change ByHost preferences to match Client after install to change a few settings like the visibility of Bluetooth in the menu bar and activating iChat's Bonjour Messaging.
The trouble is that the name and hostname never get applied and the ByHost settings don't end up matching the retored Client. It seems as if the step is simply ignored, even though it show that it completed successfully.
Has anyone successfully used Apply System Configuration Settings in Lion Server's System Image Utility?
My Workflow is fairly simple:
-Define Image Source (A preconfigured Lion client install on another partition)
-Enable Automated Installation (With Automatic Erase of "Macintosh HD")
-Apply System Configuration (As explained above)
-Create Image (NetRestore)
The workflow completes everytime without error after 2.5 hours for an 11GB image and the clients NetRestore just fine but the System Configuration Settings remain unchanged. Help? Ideas? Experience? Documentation?

I have the same problem.
The NetBootClientHelper, who sets your System Configuration Settings, is not correct installed in your NetRestoreImage after creating an Image.
I try manually install the NetBootClientHelper in my Master-Installation and create a Image again.
Here are the steps necessary to get the necessary files to manually install the NetBootClientHelper in you Master-Installation.
1. Create an NetRestore-Image, or use your exsisting Image with System Configuration Settings
2. Open (mount) in .NBI-Folder your NetInstall.dmg
3. Goto Packagesa > Extras an Copy these Files to your Desktop/tmp
Here you can find the files do contain the System Configuration Settings, as sharingNames(.plist) an bindingNames(.plist) and the NetBootClientHelper-files an Startup-files.
4. Goto var > tmp > niu > postinstall an open the installClientHelper.sh with Texedit.
Here you can see which files you must be installed in you Master-Installation so that the NetBootClientHelper automatically starts at the fist boot.
This is a work-a-round, I hope that apple solve this problem with the next update.

No longer receiving all episodes for a subscribed podcast

No longer receiving all episodes for Bill Maher, They seem to be intermittent.
iTunes on my Computer shows last full episode is 232, but iTunes store shows full episodes of 233 and 234.
My Computer does show some recent episodes such as Overtime for Episode 234.
My computer does not even list the missing episodes, so I cannot request a download of those specific shows.
Any ideas?

It may help to unsubscribe and then resubscribe to the Podcast. Alternatively you can download those episodes from the listings in the store.
