Can't approve iMac for Keychain
I have been using Keychain on a MacBook Air . Now I have installed OSX Mavericks on my iMac (mid-2009) and want to use Keychain on it. I don't have a security code so I am trying to set it up by requesting approval from the MBA. The request goes from the iMac but when I try to approve it on the MBA it just won't accept my Apple ID password. Keeps on asking for it again and again. Would be grateful if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong.

A trusted device for two-way verification needs to be able to receive SMS or Find-My-Phone notifications.
That excludes your iMAc. Better set up a security code and keep more than one printed copy in a very save place, like in a locked strong box.

Since I don't use 3rd-P virus protection or intruder alerts, and I don't think most mac users do, how can we check our machines periodically to be sure we're clean?
Can anyone recommend a site where we can do a scan or something like that? Symantec maybe?
This Q just arose for me because in pursuing a search engine result I clicked to a site and suddenly a pop-up screen was telling my I had viruses and needed to attend to them. I got out of there asap.
Thanks.No sites, and I'd stay away from any that claim to do that like the plague. I would never expose my drive to an online scan (scam.) In fact, I'd be damned careful about anything you download to do that. These won't do any harm. You've been exposed to what's called "scareware."

upgraded my macbook pro to mountain lion from snow leopard does this mean i can upgrade my imac as well for the same price? And will it mess it up?
You can upgrade the iMac for no extra charge - sign into the App Store there, download and install 10.8.
I recommend that you make a backup (Time Machine is probably the easiest method) before you install, and make sure that you are not using any applications that are incomptible with 10.8 (eg Office 2004) - other than that, it should go smoothly.

i know its not a problem whit my carrier o data plan or sharing preferences on the ipone because when i use it un my laptop it works perfectly through
the usb and even works on the Imac through wifi and bluethood tethering but NOT through usb!!.
the problem is that trying to make it work i deleted the "profile" usb iphone on the network prefereces panel. Now i only have 3 options: ethernet / wifi / bluetooth
but not the usb iPhone i used to have.
And when i try to add a new one i dont get a USB option.

I have an external hard drive that was formatted by a PC and has files and directories copied to it etc. I want to use it on my IMAC for backup. I see it on my my IMAC . I can open files etc. But I can't seem to write to it nor can I delete current content. I don't care if I lose current content. How do I initialize it for use with the MAC?
You can't write to it because it's formatted as NTFS which OS X will read but not write to. If you want to continue using the drive with both a PC and OS X you will need to download and install NTFS-3G so you can then write to it from your Mac. You can get NTFS-3G at:

If you want to use the drive exclusively with your Mac then move the data off it and reformat it in Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utilities) as Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) -

You can also drag an iWork ’09 (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) or Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) document created on your computer to icloud.com/iwork.
So it looks like it can go between iOS devices and your iMac.

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.
On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs. Back up one Mac first, then back up the other. Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time. -
I've been running Windows XP over Bootcamp on iMac for a few years and I can't seem to get any sound from external devices into the machine. Any ideas?

I would do 1 thing at a time:"now the micropohone is not working in facetime"
Here is what you can check to get your mike working in facetime:
1. Hold down option while you click on the speaker next to time a. date,
under input Device see if your mic is marked. If not: ✔️
2. Click the apple top left/System Prefs./click on the Sound speaker:
under Input highlight microphone.
3. When you have factime on go to video above scroll and see if your mic is marked ✔️
If that does not get it to work there is more you can check:
(Utilities/Audio, midi setup)
For any other audio device you do this for input and output.

I cannot shut down my iMac (for days now) as I get the following message: "Photos are being imported to the photo library."
Now as far as I know there are no photos being imported and even if there were 5 days is crazy. How can I resolve this please?
JLB284Open Activity monitor in Utilities, go to the CPU tab>All Processes, and note any process that would appear to be related to importing photos, such as iPhoto, and use Force Quit. This may only be a temporary fix, as it may start all over again when you reboot. If that happens, we need to do some more investigating.
Also, close all open Applications, then open Terminal in Utilities and copy/paste and hit return, then post the output of this command.

Assuming you have a wireless network at home, just use file sharing. System Preferences / Sharing. Choose a folder you want to share and you're done.

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Correct. To do it, your Mac must be running Mountain Lion and Pages '09 with the most recent version. To check the OS X version you have, open > About this Mac, and check the version. If it's 10.8, you are running Mountain Lion. Then, you just have to open System Preferences > iCloud, and tick "Documents and Data".
If you aren't running Mountain Lion, you can still share documents between the iPad and the Mac, you can access to the documents created in the iPad in http://www.icloud.com, logging in with your Apple ID, and selecting iWork. Also, you can upload documents from the computer
