Can't arrange photos in a folder

I moved 200 photos into a folder and I selected sort manually. But every time I try to drag and drop to arrange... the photos won't move. I also converted the folder into a slideshow. I can arrange in the slide show but the view only displays a dozen or so photos at a time so it makes it very difficult to sort effectively. Any tips on how to more effeciently manage this process?

You need to grant EXECUTE privilege on all those application components to PUBLIC user. You can do this by clicking on the "Grant Access" link pertaining to each of the components in the navigator and granting execute privilege on the components to the public user.
This will work.

  • How can I arrange photo albums by date?

How do I arrange photo albums by date like the old iPhoto?

How do I arrange photo albums by date like the old iPhoto?
You can only arrange albums by name or manually. So you would have to make the data a part of the name, if you want to sort by date. It might help to group the albums in folders by year or so.

  • Can you arrange photos in a particular order in Camera Roll on the iPad?

Also, can you create subfolders within albums on the iPad? Thanks chaps!

You can't change the order of the photos within the Camera Roll album in the Photos app, and you can't create subfolders either.
If you want more control over your photos then you could consider using a third-party photo management app such as Photo Manager Pro (its help page) - that app can copy photos to/from Photos or your computer, you can change the photos sort order within it (e.g. by name, size, or you can drag them into your own order), though it also doesn't allow subfolders

  • PSE12 Organizer - can you copy photo from one folder to another and import copy into Organizer and still have original in other folder

I have been using folders to organize all my pictures and I will copy photos from folder to folder, often having them in 2 or 3 folders based on use.  I tried to copy a photo in Organizer PSE12 from one folder to another and you can only move it, that means I can only have one copy of the photo.  That is fine if I am using tags and want to search for it, but I want to have mult copies in mult folders. Organizer will recognize that it is there but it won't import it into the new folder. Until I move it, it stays in the original folder.  I can drag it out of Organizer and drop (copy) it into a new folder fine, but it won't show in organizer in the new folder.  Is there any way to copy and have multiple copies show up in multiple folders?

    Hi,
The organizer works on the principle of not having multiple copies of the same photo.
If you have multiple copies spread in different folders, then making changes to one doesn't affect the others. The use of tags and albums are there to give different views of your photos.
You can't have multiple copies with exactly the same name even if they are in different folders. You could select a photo and duplicate it (File -> Duplicate) and then move the copy into a different folder but the name will be different.
If you want different folders for a specific reason, it is possible to use albums to collect the group of photos and then export them to a new folder outside of the organizer. You can also rename on export which is useful if you want to arrange the photos in a specific order.
    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Can only sync photos by dropping folder on desktop - iPad won't sync photos

    Hi all,
I've been trying for a couple weeks now to sync photos to my iPad.
I'm running SL 10.6.2 and have updated to the latest iTunes. I have one hard drive that runs only my OS and my applications and I have a secondary drive that contains all my data including music, videos, photos, documents etc.
I have been able to repeatedly successfully sync apps, movies, music, and even a pages document to my iPad from the secondary drive through iTunes.
Every single time I have tried to sync photos it just seems to hang at the Sync in Progress screen for hours. I finally have to cancel because it's obvious the sync will not be successful. This happens whether I have one folder selected with just a dozen photos or several folders selected.
I am not using iPhoto. I'm simply choosing the folders with the images I'd like to sync from the Photos tab in iTunes when my iPad is connected.
Today I took one of the folders I was trying to sync containing 12 photos and dropped it on my desktop. The photos synced in seconds and iPad happily said sync complete. Any ideas?
Is this a quirk with SL 10.6.2, iTunes 9.1, or iPad?
It's not necessarily a huge issue that I have to move all the photos I want to sync to my main mac drive... but I just really didn't want to clutter my OS drive with data stuff... I prefer to keep them separate. Seems the only way I can sync photos right now, though, is to move them to the main mac drive... even though everything else syncs just fine from the secondary drive...
    Thanks for any help!

It looks like noone has and Idea how to fix this problem ;-(

  • How can i delete photos in a folder from my Iphone 4s?

On accident, I synced pictures from my computer onto my phone. I have many pictures on my computer and now it is taking up a lot of space on my phone. The problem is i dont know how to get the pictures off my phone now. The pictures are in knew files, and there is no opption on the phone to delete the pictures or its folder. Can anyone help??

Try connecting the phone to your computer, opening iTunes, clicking on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings, uncheck Sync Photos, then click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.  Then check your phone to see if any photos library photos remain.  If they do, check Sync Photo again and sync.  If prompted about removing existing photos on your phone, accept.  This should remove the older photos and replace them with the photos on your computer (without duplicates).  After doing this, if you don't want any of these photos on your phone, uncheck Sync Photos and sync again to remove them.

  • Can't see photos in Pictures folder when wanting to upload one

I just got my mac and moved all my photos over via drop box with my old mac. I wanted to upload a photo, but when I go to pictures in finder to find one it just has iPhoto library as the selection and does not let me see any of the photos in the library individually.
    What can I do!?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Accessing the iPhoto Library Folder directly has never been supported in any version of iPhoto.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All of the above are a: faster and b: Safer than rooting around in the old Library Folder.

  • New to iPhoto - Can I store photos in Public folder?

I am new to iMac and iPhoto.
My wife and I both have user accounts.
Can I store my photo collection in my public folder, then have both user accounts use iPhoto to access the photos, or will this cause a problem?
Ideally, I would like us to share one album. But I do not know how iPhoto organizes, and do not know if this will cause a problem for two separate iPhoto programs on different user accounts (same computer) accessing the same photo library.
Before I start, is this OK? Or should we both just have a separate library on our own accounts?
    Thanks,
    -Lee

Best advice: use two libraries in separate accounts and then use iPhoto Sharing to share the pics:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
Tha advantage to the above is that it's really safe, especially for new users. However...
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Can you move Photos from one folder into another?

    Doesnt seem like you can.
    Can you?
And can you create new folders on the Finder level within LR like you can in Bridge?

You can when inside a folder. Drag from the image not the grey border. If in doubt grab the center if the image.

  • How can I arrange photo Events on my iPad by name, not by date?

In iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2), I view my events by Title. It arranges them alphabetically by name. When I sync those events to my iPad 2 (4.3.3), it arranges the events by date. Is there a way to have them arranged by Title (alphabetically) for my iPad?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately this is not possible in Ipad at the moment. You could leave feedback at aApple on this link
http://www.apple.com/feedback There is an app in app store called isort photos but I don't know what it is like. It only costs 2.99 so may be worth a risk !

  • My photos in a folder are not in the correct order. How can I move them around?

I  Am making an album of the life of an aunt. My photos are all in the wrong order. How can I move them around in the folder?

lets use the correct words so we do not mis-communicate
are you using iPhoto or the finder?  Never touch your photos using the finder if you use iPhoto!
In iPhoto folders can not hold photos - folders hold only other folders or albums - albums hold photos  --  within an album you can manually arrange photos as you wish

  • Arranging photos in Revel.

I would just like to say that I really hope the Revel designers/engineers decide to - ASAP please!!! - create a function whereby we users can custom arrange photos (library and albums) in whatever order we would like. So far, that is the only function I can see that is making Revel less than perfect for viewing and sharing photos. Instead of providing a button where we can immediately print photos with Walgreens (does anyone still go to Walgreens??), please make a function where we can CUSTOM arrange our photos. From what I can tell this issue hasn't been addressed since last year (2013)….well….we're in the middle of 2014 now…. Um, 'nuf said.

If you set “Keep All Originals” set to On on your mac (the default setting),  your revel photos are stored in two places: the cloud and the hard drive. The backup file on your Mac can be found at:   (/Users/<username>/Pictures/Adobe Revel/Adobe Revel Library.rvl)
(right-clickon the file and select open package contents to get to the photos)
You can disable Keep all Originals if you know you have your originals stored safely elsewhere, or if you don’t have enough disk space on your Mac to accommodate all photos.

  • Need to arrange photos in order, can't use iphoto. *****.

Spent lots of time @apple store today, found no solution. Desperate.
Need to put my photos in a particular order. I'm a PC and have an older beater ibook G4 (OSX 10.4.11). Ipad won't play with the iBook so arranging pics in iphoto isn't an option.
is there a cheap/direct route to upgrading the ibook to an ipad-friendly version OS? or...?
i bought the ipad to use a digi portfolia. suuuuuuper disappointed i can't do something as basic as arranging photos on it. baaaad apple!

Here’s the method I use to achieve iPhone picture folders in which images are sorted the way I want. Using Adobe Lightroom 3, I create a Collection called “iPhone-Nature”, populate it with images and drag them into the order I want. In Grid Mode, I select all the images in “iPhone-Nature” and export them using a Preset that’s also named “iPhone-Nature”.
    As stated at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221 ...
“Your iPhone device will look for the following EXIF tags within your pictures:
    Capture Date
    Date Time Digitized
    Date Time Original
    Last Modified”
If the above EXIF data are missing, the iPhone “sorts these photos by the date the files themselves were created.”
So, it’s critical to ensure that the first 4 EXIF are not included in the image files and then create the files in the order in which you wish them to appear in your iPhone’s folders.
Here are the values I use for my Export Preset named “iPhone-Nature”:
    EXPORT LOCATION---
Export To = (choose ‘Pictures Folder’ from menu)
Add To This Catalog = unchecked
Existing files = Ask what to do (You shouldn’t ever be asked—the folder should already be empty as discussed below.)
    FILE NAMING---
Rename to: Choose ‘Edit” from the menu, delete any contents from the the field, type “Nature”, Insert the ‘Sequence # (001)’ token then press ‘Done’.
Start number = “1000” (The example shown should be “Nature1000.jpg)
Extensions = Choose “Lower case” (It probably doesn’t matter.)
(Note: The images don’t really need to be renamed—they’ll be sorted in their creation order—but, maybe iPhone will return to sorting images by their file names someday. Including “Nature” in the filename is for clarity and to avoid any problems there might be with having multiple files named 001.jpg in several folders on the iPhone.)
    FILE SETTINGS---
    Format = JPEG
    Color Space = sRGB
    Quality = 80
Limit File Size To = unchecked
Include Video Files = checked (if you want to include them)
    IMAGE SIZING---
Resize to Fit = Long Edge, 960 pixels
Resolution = 240 pixels per inch
Don’t Enlarge = unchecked (or checked if you wish)
    OUTPUT SHARPENING---
    Sharpen for ‘Screen’
    Amount = Standard
    METADATA---
Minimize Embedded Metadata = checked (This is really important!)
    WATERMARKING---
Watermark = unchecked (or add one if you want)
    POST-PROCESSING---
    Choose ‘Do Nothing’
SAVE THE ABOVE AS A PRESET!
Press the [Add] button (lower left corner) and save these setting as a Preset named “iPhone - Nature”
(Note: If you make changes to any setting, hover your mouse over the Preset’s name, right-click and choose “Update with Current Settings” so they’ll be available next time you use that Preset.)
    FIRST-TIME EXPORT:
    1. Select Lightroom Library’s Collection “iPhone - Nature”
    2. In Grid Mode, ensure that you images are sorted the way you want them (for manually-sorted images: View, Sort = User Order)
    3. Select all images (or just the ones you want)
    4. Press Export
    5. Choose the “iPhone - Nature” Preset then press [Export]
    6. Wait for Lightroom to complete the Export
    7. Connect iPhone to computer
    8. In iTunes, click on the iPhone Device then Click on Photos and ensure that only selected folders will be imported from your Pictures Folder and that “Nature” is checked.
    9. Press [Sync] (in lower right corner)
    SUBSEQUENT EXPORTS:
    1. Delete all files from Pictures/Nature
    2. Sync iPhone (verify that Nature is then no longer among Photo’s albums)
    3. Complete the steps listed under FIRST-TIME EXPORT.

I am making a calendar in iPhoto, picking photos from a folder, let's call it "2011 Pics," in iPhoto. After arranging all the photos and captions I decided I wanted to insert a new photo -- one that was not in "2011 Pics." So I inserted it into the folder, but the picture does not show up on the scrolling menu of pictures at the left of the calendar-making page. This happened last year and in frustration I started all over again. But surely there is a way to add a new picture to a calendar that is already laid out.

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?
